A few hours had passed since his first taste of blood.. his first contract killing; a good for nothing durden none the less.. He seems to think the only way to keep his mind off the whole ordeal was to contuine on with life like nothing had changed.. so he did. John was out for coffee at his local down town Detroit diner when he noticed an old man leaning back and forth, back and forth, slightly glancing at John has he did; holding a small book in his hand, it looked to be a bible. The waiter soon approaches the table and asks John for his order; he falls into a few seconds of silence then orders a cup of coffee to wake him up from the day dream he finds himself in. After the waiter had taken the order, John then glances over at the old man once more and to his amaze the old man has his eyes glued on John as if waiting for an answer to a question that has not been asked.. His obsessive need of leaning back and forth and the prolonged eye contact caused John to stand up and head over to his table.. "May I aid you with something Sir?" asked John trying to offer the old man some help before he falls into a deep endless sleep, he was waiting for something to get his mind off of the malicious dealing of earlier.. "no, me? no, why would i need help? me? no" the old man appears to be in a state of shock from what ever had happened to him, the back and forth motion seemed to exhilarate and John begun to think he was very, very unwell. Trying to make him feel better, John pulls out a cigar and hands it to the old man. " Why thank you young man!" pleased with the gift, the old man stops shaking, he whips the sweat off his face and looks at John "What do you know of the perfect crime?" the old man asked taking his first puff off the cigar "What do you mean, the perfect crime?" asked John trying to get an idea of what the old man was rambling on about "I am talking about the murder of Kate's father! You've heard the story haven't you?" The old man asked "No.. I don't recall hearing such a story" John replied confused as to what he was hearing John beckoned the man to continue with this mysterious story.. Enjoying the cigar John had given him the old man then places his bible on the table and looks at John once more "The day he died.." the old man said in a shallow voice "The day who died?" John interrupted "If you let me flippin' continue then you'll know boy" snapped the old man "You see, the day Kate's father died, the perfect murder was created. " "There was a note book found under his bed Indicating that he was devising a way to murder his daughter without being caught, but he knew from day dot that it was going to be difficult. The father knew that what ever he does and what ever lie he would create, with a little patience, the truth would soon be discovered and he would take the fall.. he just wasn't cut out for such things at all" He takes another few puff off his cigar and continues "You see, he wrote in the notebook ten different ways to murder his daughter well making it look like an accident but all of them seemed to come to the same ultimatum .. He believed what ever he did, no matter how precise he was, he could not pull off this perfect murder." "He needed the crime to show as if it was an accident, there are only so many explanations for a death; Murder, Self explicable , natural.." John then leans back on his seat slightly and interrupts the man once more "A car accident would have been the best bet for him right? cut the break lines, do what you need to do for whatever reason that may be.. It's not your fault, move on." He still couldn't understand why this so called Father wanted to murder his daughter, but he was very much interested to hear the rest of the story "You're telling the story now?" the old man snapped once more "Shall I continue?" "Now by killing his daughter he would prevent her from running of with this poor schlub he had not approved of.. He had her in a sort of trance and he felt any minute she would up and leave without saying a word.. His only flesh a blood, running off with a farmers boy. He believed that by committing the said crime he would be setting her soul free and for that he would have no guilt.. that he would commit this crime and not feel guilty! But that didn't happen.. The old man then places the cigar on the table and takes a sip of his now cold cup coffee "She killed him!" he roared "She did?!" said John surprised! "Yes she did, she found the note book three days later so she took at him with a kitchen knife, she went to court and they declared here innocence.. declaring the case a self defense matter!" "Wait so.. were is the perfect murder?" asked John The old man continued "The perfect murder my friend is that after the trial she requested the notebook to be burnt. But lucky for me, I myself was in the force at the time.. I had a chance to read it well it was still in evidence." The old man then paused for a few seconds as if the story was some how over whelming him.. he shortly continued "I was the one who also ended up disposing of it, the funny thing is that the hand writing within the notebook.. was not her father's" The waiter then interrupts them asking them if they want anything else to order and if the old man was bothering John; John quickly waved him off so the old man could continue the story. "Wait so.. who's handwriting was it?" John asked surprised The old man then looks John straight in the eye and says "Yours!" "You told Kate about the note; it was also you who planted the note there when you went to see her in private.. without her father knowing. You knew that with the note as evidence she would not be found guilty for murder of the first degree.. You two could inherit the very little he had left and run off together! YOU made the perfect murder!" "Well.. what a story" John replied, slightly smiling but very unsure as to where this was going.. "I've been waiting for this day for some time Tony; I knew I would see you around these parts once more you couldn't help yourself.. you couldn't stay away" The old man then slowly stands up with that he reaches into his jacket pocket and retrieves what seems to be a turn of the century Colt Revolver John doesn't flinch a muscle; he noticed the old man was now shaking quite frantically and he decided to let it play out.. If this was to be what killed him, then so be it.. but he was sure the big guy up there had more in-store for him "YOU KILLED MY SON!" the old man then shakily yells Swiftly cocks back the revolver and fires "CLICK" Goes the revolver "..." The old man then sit's down again, places his Revolver back into his jacket pocket slowly picks up his bible and holds it close to him and begins to mumble something once more.. "So" "...What do you know of the perfect crime?" John hadn't felt like this in some time It's as if his body was turned inside out, the amount of adrenaline flowing through his veins would be enough to make a weak minded person fizz out.. He slowly rises from his seat, gets his wallet out and puts a few dollars on the table covering his and the old mans orders'.. He looks at the old man once again whom just keeps repeating the same line over and over.. "What do you know of the perfect crime".. He then wiggles out of the small booth and heads for the door not once looking back.. he walks out onto the street, ponders on the whole ordeal for a few seconds.. counts his blessing.. then moves on to live out another day. |
