Respect, disrespect and a lack of respect. John waltz out into the street, looking all menacing as he does; "I've been finding myself out here in the streets' more often" he said to himself "But I mean my words go on deaf ears, who would want to listen to a good for nothing Goomba? And for heavens sake one with Irish decent?" Anyhow.. "Ladies and gentlemen, I have decided to interrupt your (and my) busy day and have a chat with you all about something that came up yesterday in a conversation I had, about respect. It seems that many don't quite understand the concept of respect. they also don't seem to realize that there is a difference between disrespect and an absence of respect. Esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability: I have great respect for his/her judgment. Deference to a right, privilege, privileged position, or someone or something considered to have certain rights or privileges; proper acceptance or courtesy; acknowledgment: respect for a suspect's right to counsel; to show respect for the flag; respect for the elderly. "You can show respect to someone without actually respecting them. In most circles they call this being polite, in our way of life we call this showing respect. Does this mean that I have to have an actual respect for the person? No, it does not. I might never have met this said person before, however, as he has reached a certain level and thus demands respect in this thing of ours, I am polite to him; I might secretly hate the bastard but this isn't being disrespectful unless I make that animosity public knowledge of course" John suddenly realizes there was not a single soul out on the street listening to him ramble on; other than a funky looking homeless man but he was out to it, snoring and all.. But hey I suppose that counts?!
