After awhile of Apache being away from the reservation he decided he wanted to go visit his family back home. He headed out from his Detroit headquarters leaving his underboss in charge of the operations for the next couple days. While he was on his way back to his sacred grounds in the Las Vegas desert he couldn’t help but ask himself a lot of questions. Does my family even miss me? How is my brother doing? Did my mother make her famous rabbit stew? He knew all these questions would be answered after a half day of driving. Later that day he had finally made it to the desert. He still had a couple hour drive but decided to stop and view the sand lands. He got out of his car and looked around. There was nothing in sight but a couple cactuses. To Apache this was the most peaceful thing in his life. He remembers running away from the reservation as a child and sitting out here for hours. His elders would beat him when he got back but the satisfaction of the desert far outweighed the consequences of running away. He got back in his Bugatti and went to see his family. When he arrived his brother was already out in the yard. He drew his bow and arrow on the expensive car as Apache pulled up. Apache got out with his arms wide open. ”Dont shoot brother!” Apaches brother ran over to him and gave him a hug. Then backed away and Punched Apache in the stomach. ”That’s for not allowing me to come with you! Look at that vehicle man!” ”Yeah I deserve that hit brother, but yeah that’s the new Bugatti. Is mother around?” Apaches brother looked like a deer in the headlights. With his facial expressions Apache knew something was wrong. His brother started to stuffer. ”I thought you would have heard. Sh-She died about a week after you left. We buried her not to long after that right here in the backyard.” Apache couldn’t believe what he just heard. His mind would not let him comprehend the news. He paced back and fourth about 3 times before punching the hood of his Bugatti as hard as he could. Blood instantly began to drip from the Native mans hand. He must have broke his wrist as well. His whole forearm was numb after the one punch to the steel car. Apache started to walk to the back yard to see his mother’s grave. His brother decided to give him his space. Once back to the grave Apache began to look up to the sky and try to talk to his mother. ”All I wanted to do was help the family mother! I made a lot of money while I was away, I wanted to help! Please forgive me!” Tears began to roll down Apaches cheeks. He was sniffling bad and then he dropped to his knees. When he looked up he seen two bald eagles curling above the area where his mother was buried. Eagles knew if a dead Native American has a good or bad journey after death. Because the birds were circling and not landing is a clear distinction that Apaches mother had already headed on her good journey. Then a rabbit hopped over and sat right next to Apache. It was like the rabbit wanted to sacrifice itself for the stew Apache was hoping for. He shook his head at the bunny and got back to his feet. He went back to his brother and handed him a envelope full of hundred dollar bills. ”please take care of yourself brother, I will be back to check on you in a couple on months ok!” His brother nodded but did not say a word. Apache got back into his dented car and drove back into the Las Vegas desert headed Back towards the Motor City! |
