| Mass Mails | Started by: Tasha on Jul 21, '18 17:50 |

I have been doing some thinking and observing of late. I noticed that we as a community are relying very heavily on mass mails for every tiny thing. This seems to be a bit of a problem. While I was thinking about all the mass mails and how frustrating some of them can be. I also sat there thinking of solutions. So hear me out before you begin to get upset. We send mails out constantly for auths. Awesome right? We as upper structure get to know who is a rogue or not. But could we forego these mails? Indeed we could. We could eliminate them by solely focusing the situation into the streets. Prior to setting someone up you could have a thread for the streets ready. This gives everyone (not just uppers) knowledge that said person isn't a rogue when they go up in bold. Yes I am aware these threads make it to the streets eventually. I am thinking we could make them get there in a better fashion. TylerDurden gets a lot of mails. From mapping to when he is expected to show up. Now the mapping is nice, for hitters. Not so much for people not training their guns. The expectation of when he is going to show up seems a little more silly because its not always exact. They come when they come. Could these be avoided? Mhm. We have the use of C, H and D chats that make it easy to communicate with one another. I am more than sure most people that are online will appreciate the communication. However, what about those that arent and are just getting a bunch of mails to open or toss away without even bothering with? Let's take back mass mails with being important mails. Mails about war, shot reports (if you must), etc. Let's not just send it out for the tiniest things. We have the ability as a community to use so many different other ways to communicate with one another. Let's use those where we can. |

I have been wondering about this issue for a while myself. Thank you for writing about this Tasha. As a RHM I have received notice of appointments as many as 4 for each person being done That is ridiculous in my opinion. As a RHM, I would never over step my boundaries of what should be a CL or GF notification to all the cities. As a RHM or LHM we should worry about our own family, Not Yours. Now there will be those of you that say "Well as a RHM I need to communicate messages to all" "MAYBE" if there is a powerful "Rogue" then by all means 100 percent YES. But the normal day to day stuff it is not needed to be spread maybe not even said. Lets be wise on what we send. |

If this is happening then CL and RH/LH, plus GFs and there RH are sending the same mail without checking to see if it's already been mass mailed out. I'm not sure what you can do about that. |

You could.. I dont know.. Learn to communicate with the people around you? Pay attention to whats being sent out? Or just not send out garbage? |

What about those who do not pay attention to the in-game chats be it because they are on a phone or tablet where it is out of instant view? Mass mails are a bit of a pain, I feel some send a few too many, but they are a necessary evil. We may not need lengthy explanations of why a leader has changed their hands out or every detail of every event in their city, but some feel it is necessary and believe in excessive transparency. Also, what if you log in after something is said in the chat? It isn't visible to them. |

Durp, and that was not meant to end there...
As I was saying, there are times I depend on those stupid mass mails because I'm peeking in from work and don't have time to scroll up in chat.
Mass mail, when used correctly, is beneficial.
As for the not training your gun so not caring about Durden arrivals... I don't care about someone opening a bar in Detroit, yet I've had mass mail about that and haven't bitched. |

I believe the intent here is not to bitch about mass mails but simply how we are using them and what we are using them for. |

As it should be. Becoming a CL isn't usually a spur-of-the-moment thing, there is plenty of time for new auths to have a street thread ready before they setup. That said, I don't mind seeing the mass mails too much. But I could skip over 90% of what I receive and it wouldn't make a difference. |

I am not saying take out mass mails altogether. I am saying mass mail when its important and there is no other means of communication that can be used for it. So wars would be important. Tylerdurden, not so much. |

| I'm entirely fine with the current mass mails. No need to amend anything at all that's described here. In fact it's far easier to simply delete a mails that is of no interest than it is to attempt to change something that many people are happy to utilise. | |

I just started to as of last night, yes. But why should I have to when there are better alternatives? |

I mean, it takes all of two seconds to press the delete button on a mail you don't want to read. Why's that a problem? You don't see mass mails about TylerDurden as important, what if someone else does? |

Why is it so hard to stop relying on mass mails for the tiniest thing when you could use other means? It's not just about the durden mails. We have various means to communicate with people, why are we so hell bent on the mass mailing option? |

Becuase it's the one way you can guarantee that those online and offline will see what you have to say. It's pretty simple. |

By offline, I mean offline at the time you wish to convey your message. |

Perhaps because it's the most convenient way to get information to people? |

No actually it isnt. More often then not those mass mails dont get sent around. They are nothing but spam and garbage. Most people can see that. You got a birthday you want to celebrate? Mass mail. Durden? Mass mail. Hand change? mass mail. Auth? Maybe mass mail.. depends if people can be bothered. And the list just keeps going on with the reasons for mass mails. Most of them do not get sent down. So no its not a guarantee at all Constance. |
