Feeding The needy Started by: Apache on Jul 24, '18 17:27

Apache just woke up from a long night down at the bar in his headquarters.  During his time drinking he went outside and noticed a man at the dumpsters digging through stuff.  He didn’t do anything then but it definitely was bothering him now.  He decided that he needed to help the city’s homeless population.  Detroit had a lot of them.

He got ready for the day and went out to the garage.  He figured the box van would work for his mission.  He had a couple bodyguards come with him in case he needed any help or needed protection.  The next stop was The Frybread Express.  RedFoot was inside working when Apache came in.

“RedFoot shut the restaurant down today!  I need you to make about 100 Indian tacos maybe even more!”

RedFoot looked confused but was not the type to ask questions.  He just got right to work.  Apache started chopping lettuce and tomato’s to top the tacos.  Then moved over to the meat.  RedFoot had to focus all his attention on the handmade frybread because that was definitely going to take the longest to make.

Once everything was made RedFoot and Apache boxed them up in to go boxes a began to bring them out to the box van.   They drove the van to a known location of the homeless and Apache got out of the van.  The people around looked over at him misplaced.  RedFoot started setting up tables and placing the food boxes on them.  Apache grabbed a megaphone and began to talk to the needy.

”Hello all, I am here today to help you! Far to long has this city allowed you men and women to live like this.  Under bridges, in parks, in abandoned houses.  Although I am unable to House everyone, I will sure do my best to fred you.  So come on over and get a free Indian taco from my restaurant The Frybread Express!  I will be coming out here every week at this time so tell your friends!”

Apache left RedFoot and his other bodyguards in charge of the distribution of the Indian tacos.  The line filled fast, people were running into line from 50 yards away. Apache decided to go conversate with some of the homeless and try to figure out why they were this way.  He seen one man still lying down with a old beat up sleeping bag under the bridge.  Apache walked over and knelt down beside him.

“Hey man, get up come get something to eat!”

Apache could smell alcohol steaming from the mans body.  He placed a hand on the mans shoulder and began to shake him in attempt to wake him up.  The mans body was limp, he just rolled on to his back when Apache attempted to wake him.  Apache knee that the man was dead at that point.  He got off the ground and headed Back towards the food.  There was one dirty looking African American man standing in line Apache decided to approach.

”What is it that causes you to life out here the way you do?”

The man looked over to Apache.  He looked like his face had a story of its own.  He was late 70s with a lot of grey hair.  His wrinkles you could tell came from a life of hard work.

“I’ve been around a long time man,  I fought in the Civil War for my people’s freedom.  Look at the freedom that was given.  Nothing but segregation and no job opportunities.  I’m so thankful for what you are doing don.  How can I repay you!”

Apache took the man story to heart and even felt a tear drop down his cheek.  He thought a few seconds and waved the man to follow him.  They went back to the van and finished handing out food.  When they were done he had the man ride with them back to the headquarters.  Apache and the homeless man got into his Bugatti and headed for the suit shop.  After getting the man a couple suits Apache handed him a envelope with cash.

”If you are interested we need a stationary bodyguard at the headquarters.  Here is a cash advance if you want the job.  I can also give you housing right there as well.”

The man nodded in agreement to the opportunity Apache just gave him and the two headed back to the headquarters to show him his new home.

The day started with little to no preparation of what I would be doing today, though I knew I had to go back to the headquarters later in the evening to drop off some blueprints.

Other than that, I had the day off to myself. Sleeping in seemed like a good idea, but my soul was shaking out of its wits, my inner wolf desperately wanting me to get out for some fresh air.

So here I was, bathing myself under the morning glow of the sun and volunteering for a homeless shelter. A wholesome smile spread across my face as I looked in the direction of a little boy and his fragile looking mother beside him. They were in the midst of a conversation with a bodyguard about his kindness, though I interrupted for a good reason. I smiled warmly as my gaze penetrated into the lady's eyes. My heart then twisted as I saw the corners of her eyes watering, the wrinkles around her eyes being clearer as she put on the biggest smile I had ever seen in quite a long time. I instantly felt myself soften in her presence, and I placed a hand ever so gracefully on her shoulder while taking a glance at her little boy.

"You got an amazing little boy on your side. Cherish him with all your heart. Look, I don't know what you are going through right now whether that be financial hardship or loss of a loved one, but I look at you both and just can't imagine both of you without a warm home to share." I suddenly took out a slip of paper from my purse, its straps that slung over my shoulder. The contents on it were my address, number and name.

The lady seemed sniffled, her tears now wiped away as she brought up the sleeve of her shirt to her eyes. "...Thank you so much. I will remember this. I will certainly contact you, though it may be a while before I do. Just have a few things to... sort out, I'm afraid." Suddenly, the women dropped her smile and put her arm over her son's shoulder, both of their eyes suddenly filled with fear and worry.

The wariness in me grew, and I shook my head. "Well, I'm afraid I can't let you go. If it is really something that's bothering you, I can't just leave you to it. I know your battles aren't my battles, but even if I'm feeling down I will take the time out of my day to help you." I assured them both, especially the child who seemed to look away from me. I followed where his eyes landed.

He was focusing on the sight of a father, who was rocking his baby gentle in his arms. There was a twinkle of happiness in his eyes, and my heart dropped when I looked back at the sorrowful boy. With each ache that invited itself into my body, I felt even more inclined to help out the lady and her son.

"Come home with me. I will make you some nice tea and biscuits for you and your son. You don't have to accept my offer if you're feeling forced to go, but I just hope that my hospitality will relieve some of the fear youre feeling..." The joyful laughter that passed us faded away, and I was determined to help this mother and son make their own collection of happy memories, replacing the agonizing thoughts that had been taking a toll on them.

Excusing myself from the scene, a bodyguard walked up to me and shrugged his shoulders. "I better be going off too, all those tacos got sold pretty fast." He winked at me, before noticing the frown that was plastered across my face. I shook my head playfully as I blushed shyly at his flirty gesture. "Yeaah.. anyways. See you later. Tell Apache my goodbyes, and that I would like to see his face more!" I smiled, though it never reached my eyes as I was still bothered by the previous encounter, which I intended to recreate on a more positive note.
