The Celebration to End All Celebrations Started by: Madeline on Jul 29, '18 16:32

When Madeline first arrived in New York City some time ago, she hadn’t been looking for work. After all, she’d taken enough money with her to live rather comfortably for a while and she had no idea if she’d even stay in the City. But after a week or so, she’d grown bored, so she had ventured out to find something to amuse herself with.

She stayed true to her nickname and enjoyed a wildlife, partying and robbing and doing whatever she felt like doing. But even with crime, there was nothing that really held her interest for long. At least, not until she met @Jemaine_Clement. She’d been holding up a liquor store one night when a local thug slipped her a business card and told her to visit their office the next day to learn about an opportunity for more work.

The New York New Zealand Office of Tourism had such an odd sounding name that Madeline had felt obligated to attend this impromptu meeting. When she ventured inside, she was confused. It was…. nothing really. A small, cramped space with a desk and a poster of New Zealand. What the hell had she walked into?

She hadn’t known that Jemaine was the boss when they started talking. But she’d taken a liking to the man almost immediately. He was charming and funny and, honestly, a bit odd, but in a good way that made you want to know more. So when he’d offered Madeline a full-time job in his organization, encouraging her to give it a try and see what she thought, she agreed. And she hadn’t regretted it a day since then. She had not only made a good friend in Jemaine, but she had grown to respect him and appreciate his relaxed approach to leadership.

Months later, they were approaching one of the biggest moments in their crew’s history. Jemaine had been working hard in Brooklyn to establish himself and his crew. They had grown and expanded. Along with Don Rafa in Manhattan, they had been working on plans to revitalize the Business District. Consigliere Shelley would be launching her own place of operations here in Brooklyn as well, supported by Rachel and Antonio. Positive things were on the horizon for New York and Madeline couldn’t be more proud of Jemaine for making it all possible. And today was the day he would cement his position in history.

He would challenge the current Godfather, and, assuming everything went right, he would take over the title for himself. Godfather Chairman Jemaine Clement. It really had a nice ring to it.

With no doubt that he would succeed, Madeline, along with one of their newest additions, AlexanderKnight, had planned a huge party. This was New York City after all and if anyone could throw a party it was Madeline. Leaders from all over the country had been invited, especially their sister city Philadelphia, from where Jemaine originated.

People should begin to arrive any minute now so Madeline was busy making sure everything was in its place. She wanted Jemaine to be surprised when he arrived the victor. Which she was sure that he would.

Alexander put the phone down and stared at the ceiling. Things had picked up ever since he moved to New York and he had been considering taking a momentary break from all the performances he had been doing across the city. This period of indecision in his life was interspersed by brief instances of intrigue. These moments were the only things keeping him engaged. So, while at any other point in his life he might have passed off the job to someone else in favour of the beautiful woman asleep on his bed in all her naked glory, he could no longer do it. His whole life had been dictated by his search for fame and the consequences it had wrought. Fate it seemed had offered him the opportunity to do just that.

As he dressed he dialled up the number he had been given, "Charlie... No.. I'm not too drunk to drive back home. No.. She didn't get me pinched. No.. Her husband didn't catch us. Calm down and listen to me carefully. The car, bring it over to the hotel, along with some food, and a change of clothes. Something fancy. I think I'm going to head in early, check on things." Charlie, the chauffeur his new employers had provided him had been used to his eccentric demands at odd hours, more so lately than usual considering how he had been spending time enjoying the infamy he had garnered lately.

He splashed some water on his face , grabbed his tie and walked out. He fixed himself up in the elevator hoping he had not forgotten anything. He leaned next to a wall, pulled the camel he had tucked behind his ear, placed it in his mouth and lit it as he waited for his man to show up. His eyes had almost shut when he heard the car roll to a stop at the curb. Slapping himself to push the weariness away he got up and walked out.

Nodding to Charlie he stepped in and gave him the directions. The cool evening breeze blew through his hair as they sped off. The city lights glimmered to life around them as Alexander thought about the night to come. He couldn't say he knew the man of the hour very well, having had a few scant conversations with him. But from what little he had heard, he was a big deal in the city and this night was a very special celebration for him.

Alexander had been surprised when he had been asked to co-host. A part of him had been apprehensive about the idea but when he found out @Madeline would be right there with him he was strangely reassured. Ever since their first encounter in Detroit, they hadn't really had too many chances to spend quality time together. The ghost of a smile appeared on his face as he thought about the pleasant conversations they had shared while planning this night over the last week and this night their efforts were coming to fruition.

The street leading up to the club was packed with expensive cars being guided to suitable parking spots. Anxious guests flitted on to the red carpet leading to the entrance. Alexander was surprised by the turnout for he had thought this was a very exclusive party and yet none of the guests seemed like the common socialite. Their elegant demeanours couldn't hide the dangerous looks in their eyes or the bodyguards that followed behind at a respectable distance. The car stopped and he stepped out while trying to straighten out the creases in his half-tucked shirt. With his hair dishevelled and tie hanging loosely he took a long drag feeling the familiar burn down his throat before he flicked the cigarette down and stubbed it under his toe.

His appearance got a few off looks but he was unconcerned because he knew Charlie would follow with his suede tuxedo soon as he found a parking spot. The guards, used to him by now let him slip in through past the line and he sauntered through the door. The site that greeted him left him rooted to the spot. Madeline had done a wonderful job with the place. Light cascaded from low hanging chandeliers and reflected off the walls adorned by beautiful artwork onto the elegant decor within. Waiters traversed from table to table offering appetizers and drinks aplenty. Laughter rang out as guests abandoned their seats and engaged in conversation.

Seeking familiar terrain, Alexander meandered to the bar. His bartending days may be behind him, but the feeling of being behind a counter as he poured a drink and lent a sympathetic ear to a patron having the time of his life was something that would always comfort him. While singing maybe the love of his life, the bar would always be his happy place so to speak. He stepped past the bartenders and patted them on the back giving them final pieces of advice like a father before his child's first little league game. He ducked beneath the counter and pulled out a particular vintage. Grabbing a glass, he placed it on the top and dropped a few ice cubes within as his eyes scanned the crowd. The bottle felt familiar in his hand as he tossed it in the air and caught it with practised ease, smiling as he put on a bit of show. His nerves finally dampened a bit and he uncorked the bottle before tilting it and letting the liquor fall on to the ice. The drink made, he hailed a waiter. "Get that to Madeline."  he said to the beautiful woman "Tell her to relax, the celebrations a hit."

Sometime later, Alexander, now in his tuxedo bowed on the stage after his performance. The guests seemed to be having a ball and the party was a resounding success. He took a moment to thank the band before walking back to the front. A lit cigarette held delicately between his fingers trailed smoke in his wake as he grabbed the microphone and the lights dimmed down. A spotlight flashed on him and he broke out into an infectious grin as he said "Ladies and Gentlemen. I'm afraid we have to take a break from the musical distractions for the moment has come. It seems our guest of honour is about to arrive. So please join my cohost as she welcomes him. The stunning Miss Madeline everybody."  With that he turned towards the woman standing backstage and gestured to the mic behind him with a smile.

The guests had steadily been arriving and Madeline was thrilled at the turnout. The crew was there, of course, and others from every city. No really knew the exact reason why they were at the party (after all, word getting out wouldn’t have been good for Jemaine) but Alex had been keeping them entertained with his music and the alcohol was flowing freely. She’d paid off enough cops that the party would remain undisturbed, no matter what fun they had.

As she was mingling, her bodyguard Nikolas approached, pulling her aside and whispering in her ear. Her face lit up and she excused herself from her guests, running out to see it with her own eyes.

Sure enough, there was Jemaine, climbing out of the car. He was slightly rumpled but appeared otherwise unhurt. She nearly squealed in delight, running up to her boss and giving him a hug.

“Oh, boy am I happy to see you!” She stepped back, looking for confirmation. “Is it over, did you do it? I've been so nervous all night.”

Jemaine nodded and she grinned even more.

“Perfect! I’ve planned a celebration and it’s in full swing, just waiting for its guest of honor.”

She wasn't actually sure how much Jemaine_Clement liked a good party, but she supposed she was about to find out. She slipped her arm through his and pulled him inside, getting there just as Alex was introducing her for an announcement. She got up on the small stage and took the microphone, grinning from ear to ear as she pulled Jemaine out with her.

“Well ladies and gentlemen, I’m sure you’re curious as to why you’re all here. We couldn’t let it get out too soon but now the moment has arrived. Tonight, Don Jemaine_Clement decided to take a trip to visit the Godfather of New York City. And during that visit. Don Clement successfully challenged that now dearly departed Godfather.

So, without further ado, please join me in congratulating the newest Godfather Chairman of New York City!!”

She raised her glass to Jemaine before giving him one more hug. Tonight would be a night of fun and tomorrow they would get back to work building New York.

Gavin heard the news of the party through the grapevine and immediately took off for New York, dragging Tara along with him. The combination of a party and Madeline was enough to get him to hop on a train. When he arrived and heard the exciting news, he was even more glad that he came. He raised his glass to toast Jemaine_Clement

When the new godfather walked by, Gavin tugged on his sleeve and grinned.

"Hey! Congrats! Exciting stuff, huh?"

Tara manuevered around her brother with a smile, giving Godfather Clement a warm smile. She leaned in, speaking so that only he could hear her.

"Glad all that dynamite went to good use. Congratulations, Godfather-Chairman."

Late to his own party yet again, Jemaine eventually drags himself into the club to huge applause.

Apologies everyone, the old boy took a little longer than anticipated to go down. Never the less, he did go down and here I stand.

As he raises his arm to cheers, the blood on his suit catches the light.

Congratulations me! Thanks for everyone's patience! As he finishes he catches the eye of Tara Bryne and gives her a smile and a wink. Half a second later he spots Gavin stood 2 paces behind her so Jemaine looked back at the crowd. Woops.

I would like to send a massive thanks to Mr Mezzo & The Bryne's of Philly. I would definitely not be here for a few weeks yet if it wasn't for them!

As I reduce my operations and rescind to my tiny band of Kewi's, I have chosen Shelley to carry on running the day to day operations of the city. Shes a wise old dear who has earned her chance. Best of luck to her and her new venture here in Brooklyn.

Cheers all!

Spaceman raised a glass towards Jemaine and smiled.

"Your hard work has paid off.  It seems like only yesterday we were celebrating the opening of NYNZOT - and here we are now. We couldn't ask for a better neighbor to have in New York.  Congratulations, my friend."

With that, Spaceman snapped his fingers, ushering in a familiar, forlorn looking man with a guitar strapped to his shoulders being pushed along by Spaceman's bodyguards - the very same musician who christened NYNZOT's main office opening. Spaceman placed a hand on the man's cheek and smiled.

"I paid for 12 hours, and I expect to get every second of it.  Off with you!"

Well...  There had been a rather interesting invitation put out and Eleonora wasn't completely sure if she was meant to see it, or if it was only the elite and higher ups of the family that were meant to be rubbing elbows.  But as one of the most social of butterflies of her family, Ellie had begged to be allowed to attend.  Needless to say, the young woman was humored and so it was that off to New York she flew!  A thrill shot through her as she arrived and after some freshening up and preparation, the little socialite of the Gambino Family was ready to make an appearance at this party.  Fun was promised, and fun was precisely what the woman needed.  After all, everyone needed a distraction sometimes.

Arriving in a very slimming little number in shimmering purple, the young Luciano made her way into the building once it was her turn.  Allowing her gaze to sweep room, no small amount of awe in her eyes.  It was beautifully done.  People were moving and dancing and drinking...  It definitely looked like a wondrously fun time to be had.  Her bodyguards were none too excited to be here, but they followed behind the flighty young woman nonetheless.  They honestly had little choice.  Shy of picking the girl up and throwing her over their shoulder, they really couldn't sway her too much when she'd made up her mind to do something.  Stubbornness and determination...  One of the only aspects that made up a great boon and a great weakness all at the same time.

Now Ellie didn't know very many people from New York...  Actually she wasn't certain that she knew even one!  But she was eager to get to know everyone, so why not start tonight?  Her gaze combed about the room taking in people as well as decor.  There were many people here tonight, but she zoned in on one pair in particular.  A brother and sister duo from Philadelphia, half of which she was becoming quite close to.  She swayed to the most wonderful voice that crooned the evening away but it didn't settle in her mind just who it was right off.  Curious...  She knew that voice...  Well goodness, she couldn't get to Gavin right that moment anyway, so she turned her gaze to the stage.

And she thought her heart might stop.

It was him...  She smiled warmly as she thought of the last time she had seen him.  He had opened his performance up to requests and she had made one...  Everything after that had gone fuzzy...  But it had been a lovely evening regardless.  And since then she couldn't get him out of her head...  And yet here he was again.  She felt a somewhat silly smile lift her features, but she quickly shook it off.  What was wrong with her...  She liked the sound of his voice.  That was it.  That was...  It, right?  Well either way she swayed quietly in her own little world enjoying his singing.

All too soon his singing was over and he was announcing Madeline.  Ah Madeline.  She was who the invitation was from!  She was going to tell them why they were here!  Brilliant!  She focused intently upon the woman and she couldn't help but grin as the excitement from the crowd became infectious.  Jermaine had risen to power here in New York.  She didn't know much about him, but she was quite sure that New York was in good hands.  Taking down a Godfather was no easy task...  And he had done it.  He had taken the position himself.  She beamed wildly and joined in the applause before making her way forward, dipping her head gently in respect.  "Congratulations from Las Vegas, Godfather-Chairman Jermaine sir.  I hope your city thrives under your Leadership, even more than it already is."  Her eyes glittered softly as she delivered her words before wandering off to allow the next person to greet and congratulate the newly ascended Godfather.  She smiled warmly as she thought of her father and his day.  But this day belonged to another new Leader.

Curiously she looked up to the stage again at the young man so shrouded in curiosities.  Why did he keep her attention so?  She wouldn't say so out loud, naturally...  But she did hope she'd get a chance to speak with him when he wasn't otherwise occupied.
