What's the story/idea?

It follows the journey of a five dollar bank note and the various people's/character's lives that it flows in and out of.

What's the challenge?

To continue the story where the last person left it, by fleshing out the vague hint of a character that is mentioned at the end of that last person's post. You will write about and create a completely new NPC (non player character) for the ever unfolding story. The challenge is to create an entirely new character, telling a part of their story as they come into possession of this bank note.

It'll read like a book of various people's lives that a five dollar note passes through at some point. Every single one of them separate and unique in their own way, but each connected by that same bit of inanimate paper currency as it makes its way through the world.

What do I need to do/write exactly?

Give life to the character that should now have possession of the five dollar bank note. Who are they? What is their journey? What is their story? How did they come to be where they were before they took possession of the bank note? Why? Where exactly are they? Cover the five w's (who, what, where, why, how) and you'll be fine. Annnd whatever else you want to add. Flashbacks. In-depth details about their life. Maybe also add to the scenery of the street/environment itself. What's happening? Why? Who is about... etc. Whatever works for you; whatever tickles the creative imagination.

Include what it is your newly created character does/doesn't do when they are in possession of the five dollar bank note. Do they use it to snort coke? Or have it on them as they sit in the back of a taxi that's trying to outrun the cops? Or use it to pay for seedy sex? Or for a ring for a fiance as a cheap sorry after they ran over the family pet? Or for flowers for mother's day, but their mother had passed away years ago, and we find out later they are actually an apparition? Or to pay for a shoe shine from a blind man who use to be a famous jazz musician.. 

Also, include how it (the bank note) gets passed along to the next character. As a form of payment? In a wallet in a diner, after some bad mother fucker held it up and stole it? Was it handed over with a bunch of other bank notes in a bribe of some sort? To shut up a sulky kid after your created character went postal on his teddy bear..

Include (as an outro) a vague outline of a character that takes possession of the bank note next (that the next writer then takes and gives life to as the bank note flows in and out of each of these people's lives). Nothing hectic. Just something to work with. Make it creative, or simple, but give something for the next writer to work with.

Ad infinitum. Rinse, repeat.

Who can add to it/post/take part?

Everyone and anyone that wants to and at any point in time (now, a year from now, the year when we type with our minds by mere thoughts). No limits on how many times you post. Have at it and keep adding to the story as much (or as little) as you like as it theoretically has no end.

Anything I can't do?

Please, don't destroy the five dollar bank note in the story! Think of the ongoing story itself a pearl necklace and the currency as the string to the pearl necklace. The pearls are like the various intertwining lives that are being created by each post/writer. The string flows through each pearl, just as the bank note flows through each life. Without it, there is no necklace. And without the shiny pearls, there is only a boring bit of string. Without the bank note, this doesn't make sense! Confucius say, don't destroy the fuckin' bank note!

Anything I should do?

Please keep it as realistic as possible to the time period (1930s) and to life as it may have been at that time.

Run with what the last poster left for you.

End the piece with an opening for the next writer to add to. Maybe give the new character taking possession of the five dollar bank note a general idea or outline (of who they potentially might be) as a prompt. In the opening post, I gave the next character a bottle inside a paper bag and mentioned they weren't as scrupulous (careful, thorough, and extremely attentive to details) as the lawyer I had given life and a story to. Nothing major, but something to work it.

Post below (as a reply in this thread) if you plan on writing the next part in the story, or whatever part is available next. This is just out of common courtesy for others who may also want to pick up where the last writer left off. It leaves no doubt as to who will add the next bit, and prevents people writing for the same post, if that makes sense.

Anything else?

Remember to write/create a completely new character. The character you are playing (the MR profile you log into and possibly role-play as) could make an appearance, if you'd like to hit that creative note, but remember the aim here is to take what the last person provided and run-a-creative-muck with it. The challenge is to use that something that was left and breathe life (and a story) into it. And then do the same for another. The rest is only limited by the creative imagination. Maybe throw in some other NPC's you've already created. Maybe this new one becomes a part of theirs, and your main character's stories, too!

Try to enjoy it! There's nothing like having the creative mind envision something to which you put words, and give life! It's a great feeling to just simply enjoy writing for the creative aspect of it, to build worlds that someone else may fall, or get sucked into. They practically end up in your created reality, even if only for a short while. You become the architect. Like that colonel sanders looking guy in the matrix. Or a God, if you will. What's not to love?

Lastly, everyone who adds to the story and takes up the challenge will receive some sort of a thank you in the form of credits. Why? For your creative effort, of course. And although I believe that creative writing alone is its own form of enjoyment and value, credits also help with other parts of the game, so I'd like this to also impact more than just the writing side, if possible.
