A Visit to Godfather Luciano's Office Started by: GavinAndTaraByrne on Aug 24, '18 02:29

Gavin had asked Neil where to find the Godfather's office and the man had just stared at him dumbly. And not just because he didn't have a tongue- mostly, he just seemed stunned. Eventually, though, he wrote down the address for Gavin. Still a bit sore from the bar fight the previous evening, Gavin had stretched as best he could. He put on his best black suit, a white dress shirt open at the neck, and a new pair of shoes.

Sneaking out of the guest room at the Tower, he was in a cab in ten minutes. Twenty minutes later, he knocked on the door of Salvatore Luciano. The bodyguards approached Gavin and he pointed out the M1911 in his shoulder holster and the knife on his right calf. Both were confiscated and, after a short wait, he was brought to see the Godfather of Detroit- and the father of Isabella Luciano.

Sal sat in his office smoking a fine Cuban and drinking some coffee he had imported from Italy while reading the paper enjoying the peace and quiet of the morning. The fight had been just what he needed it had been far too long since he had been able to just be one of the guys and jump into a good old scrap.

The knock on the door brought him out of replaying the fight in his head. He set the cup down and got up from his chair putting his suit jacket back on and walking over to the door. He opened the door and saw Gavin standing there. Sal had almost forgotten about telling the man to come to see him, truth be told he figured the man would not come but was happy the man had the balls to show up.

"Gavin comes on in and take a seat," he said pointing to a chair with a smirk on his face.

Gavin was expecting to wait, and he wasn't surprised. Godfathers were busy, after all. But when Godfather Luciano pointed a bloody bat at your face, one tended to clear out their entire morning for the meeting.

Gavin didn't get nervous often; in fact, he would have told anyone that he wasn't nervous now. But he did feel a bit like he was walking on the edge of a cliff. He walked into the room with focus, confidence, and a hope that twelve hours from now Isabella wouldn't be shaking her head at him.

Entering with a friendly smile, Gavin suddenly felt the same feeling of peace he had whenever he got into a fight. Confidence in himself, both in his skills and the knowledge that with all the shit he'd lived through, nothing had killed him yet.

"Thank you, Godfather Luciano."

The corner of his mouth curled slightly. Should he say it?

"I've got to say- you were damn impressive with that bat last night."

Sal had done his research on Gavin. Much like Sal when he started Gavin was an enforcer and up and comer. He liked that about the man. But he would not let the man know that.

"It was a good fight. I learned long ago if someone wants to fight you make sure you win. Hence why I brought my bat." he said pointing the bat hanging behind his desk.

"Next to my 1911 it's my favorite weapon, it doesn't care how big the man is it is hitting," he said to the man.

One of Gavin's eyebrows popped a bit at the mention of "1911", then he smirked.

"You use a 1911 as well? That's the same one I use... I've got to compliment you on your great taste there."

He paused, not wanting to ramble. He could wax poetic about the 1911, but the godfather had called him here for a reason- and it probably wasn't to discuss a gun he already used.

Report Post Tip

"yes it is always reliable and does the job," he says to the man.

Sal took a long drag from his cigar and before setting it down in the ashtray. Then he pulls the nickel plated 1911 out of his holster and sets it on the desk.

"So I know about Canada..." he says.

Gavin watched the gun come out and, while his smirk faded, he kept looking steadily at the godfather.

"I wasn't trying to sneak around. Hope I didn't give you that impression. Last night you mentioned you were looking for me. If I'd known, I would have walked in here sooner."

Gavin's glacial blue eyes looked calmly at Godfather Luciano. He wasn't afraid of dying, but he had no interest in committing suicide-by-godfather either. Better to keep his replies short, unless he was asked to expand on something.

Sal smirked. He had to give the man credit, unlike most men he told the truth, he liked that.

"So whats your intentions as far as Isabella goes?" he asks with expression turning serious.

Sal reached and grabbed the Cigar taking another drag off of it looking at the man. He liked the man but if all it is a fling than Sal needs to make it clear that it can not be made public, but if it is more than that it needs to be made clear that there is a proper way for it to proceed.

Gavin was a lot of things- and not all of them were good. But he didn't lie.

"Honestly, Godfather Luciano? I don't know about my intentions beyond a couple basic things. I don't intend to hurt her, and I intend to help her however I can. I also don't intend anything negative to come out of the time she spends with me. But in terms of what the future holds? I don't think she knows either- or even what her intentions are regarding me. I know she's been through a hell of a lot in the last few months, and I've been happy to let her work through things at her own pace. Right now, this is how she said she wants things, and I respect her wishes in that regard."

Gavin paused for a moment- he had a few more sentences ready to go, but he chose to shut his mouth and listen.

Sal sat there staring at the man for a moment. Contemplating what to do next. He took a long drag off of the cigar before setting it back down in the ashtray.

"Well you need to figure out what you want," he states to him

"You're right. Things can't stay the way they are forever, and I think Bella knows that too."

He paused.

"I'm not a liar, Godfather Luciano. I'd never walk into this office and try to bullshit you or blow smoke. That's not how I handle things- and I think it's obvious that'd be a pretty stupid choice. I know what I want, which is to give Isabella the space and time to make her own choice about what she wants me to be. If you're asking if I'm serious about Isabella, then the answer is yes."

Gavin paused again.

"But if you're asking me for an ironclad plan for the future, then I don't know. I don't think either of us could give you that right now. I guess in that case, I'd tell you that I'd want time for Isabella and I to process everything that's happened."

"Can I ask what you want, Godfather Luciano? I'm not tryin' to challenge you by asking that. I'm just sitting here trying to guess what you're thinking, and I'd rather you told me directly, if you choose to."

"What I want is to have my daughter do things properly and not run around with men and doing things that should be done only after she is married. Now I know she won't do that so here we are." He says to the man.

"Why won't she listen to you? I know she cares about you. Respects you. You're always in her mind, when she's making decisions."

"I guess she's just stubborn. And strong. She knows what she wants, and she chases it. Right now, for some reason that's me."

He paused.

"I get where you're coming from with all this, Godfather. I've got a sister, and I've had to run guys off before that were bad for her. All I can do is tell you that I'm serious about her. Anything I say here doesn't mean anything; judge me by my actions, how I treat her, and by her opinion of me. I can't marry her right now. Neither one of us wants that. I also can't just leave her alone. If I did, I'd be showing myself unworthy of her."

"I'm not some fancy diplomat like my sister is. I can't give you some big speech that'll have you smiling and patting me on the back as you show me the door. I'm a fighter. I think we have that in common. Well, I'll fight for her, because I don't know how to do anything else. I've already fought for her, I've fought side by side with her, and I'm planning on doing it again. If there's someone else I need to fight to prove myself to you, then just point me at them."

Sal sat back and puffed on his cigar. He had heard about Gavin and his prowess in a fight. They were alike in many ways but Sal would not give his blessing on that alone... He would have to earn that just like everyone else.

"You keep her safe and out of trouble. Also, keep her private life private and out of my ears," he said to her before standing up.

"I have to go meet some fucking politicians now damn senators come knocking every time its time to get reelected," he said with a smirk.

Report Post Tip

Gavin stood up immediately. He'd talked much more than he expected, and he was happy to oblige the order to leave the office.

"Thank you, Godfather Luciano. I will."

The smirk on the Godfather's face was very, very slightly mirrored by the one on Gavin's. Bella, he thought, would be pleased. But she had enough to worry about; he'd talk to her when the Garrett business was finished. He nodded respectfully before he turned and headed toward the door.
