Adonis was knee and neck deep in shit by the time Louie got in on the party. Joe kept low, making sure he was behind cover as shots rattled against an overturned dinghy. 'What the fuck was that doing so far inland' was what Joe might've thought had he had any time to let his mind do anything else but be intently focused on the situation unfolding. As a body hit the ground and skid to a halt, Joe caught it out the corner of his eye, then noticed the return fire of the other four focus in on Louie. This was his chance. Without a second to waste, Adonis made a dash further towards the back of the barn. He spotted a white cloaked rifleman pop out from behind a pillar. He seemed ready to go, possibly having just reloaded a shot into the chamber. Still moving swiftly, Joe squeezed off two rounds into the torso of the man he was speeding towards, one from each gun, then spear tackled him to the ground. It was a heavy fall, and popped Adonis' right shoulder out. He screamed out in pain, yet the adrenaline was pumping and he had to find more cover, so he rolled over the body of the man he tackled and tried to use it to catch any bits of incoming lead. Joe flinched as a pair of bullets hit the body he was hiding behind, then reached his left arm out and popped off three rounds in that direction. He flinched again as another bullet tore into the back of dead body he was half under. Three men were left, so the now incoming fire at both the intruders wasn't as heavy. Adonis only had his non-dominant arm to use and his cover wouldn't hold out too much longer. Hoping Louie was more able to assist than before, he waited, knowing full well he only had two bullets left in his revolver. |

Mental note: Don't engage Adonis is a gun brawl. He knows how to aim, apparently with both hands. He went sprinting out and took one of the guys down and so there were only three left. I thought he was a madman but he got the job done, and all their attention was focused on him. My turn. I stepped up from behind the crates and started stepping forward. With an equal rhythm I was walking and pumping shots, and the hooded guys had no more than revolvers. My firepower was forcing them back, and one of them got caught with buckshot from behind. The other two were horrified and at the they made for the back door escape of the barn. Louie chased them to the back door and watched as the two of them bolted for the forest together. "Joe, they split. I think we're good to go here. Hey, how's the kid?" |

Adonis peeled himself away from the corpse he was using as a shield at the prompt of Louie's voice. He heard the footsteps prior and the back door swing on its hinges, the creaking noise louder than the now dismantled radio. Then the single pair tapping on the floorboards as Louie walked towards him and attempted to help him up, jerking at the dead guys arm as Joe used his body weight to push out from beneath him. A grimace seemed to be all the Race Street operative could show on his face as he dragged himself to his feet with the help of a steady hand from his trench comrade, the two having just killed and fought away a decent armed squad to rival a war story to be told again and remembered for years to come. Likely over a whisky, and with a little more of a smile, but Adonis' right shoulder was still dislodged. It hurt like a son of a bitch, like he'd been the one on the raw end of it, yet he couldn't really complain. Not when they were stepping over the corpse of the first guy who hit the deck on account of Canicatti's pump action, on the way to check on the still tied up guest of honor. He looked a mess. Bloodied face, ripped clothing that revealed a whip had been used at some point. Adonis clutched his right shoulder as the two neared the boy. He let Louie get in close. He wasn't usually so short on words, but since they'd decided to gate crash he'd been silent as a mouse. Too focused on the job at hand. Too haunted by his demons. As they stood before the chair and the posse's victim, all he could think was 'I hope we weren't too late' when suddenly the center of attention roared to life.. |
