Recruitment? Started by: Luna on Aug 30, '18 15:56

"Erm, yeah... I think this is it. Yep. Right here. Just pull up here, thank you."

The person who seemed to be lost was a young, petty thief. A woman who had been promised a chance of a lifetime. She thanked the taxi driver for the ride and paid him what she owed for it, before hopping out of the vehicle in an enthusiastic yet slightly nervous manner.

Her hair was tied back into a slick ponytail to relieve her of the heat from the sunlight that whooshed past her as she walked. A pair of inquisitive eyes danced between the slip of paper in her hands and the similar looking buildings in front of her.

Supposedly the destination that she wanted to reach should have stood out to her, but for some reason, she was confused as to where she should be heading. She had been told that there might be a problem with the waiting times to see the boss, but was advised that it would be best to come early anyway.

The only problem with coming early was that nobody told her where the actual building was in the first place. The front of it could look like a typical, plain building you see everyday - but she thought she had a good idea about the whole setup.

And now, the only thing left to do was to just search the area like a headless zombie and hopefully anyone - anyone at all - would bump her into the building she needed to find.

Thing is, she had now been walking for what seemed like twenty minutes with no stroke of luck. No one she could have bumped into that might have had the slightest idea of the right direction.

This woman was close to giving up and surrendering to her frustrations, when she saw someone pass by her. Despite being a stranger and despite the feeling that she might be disturbing him, she decided to try and ask him. Surely anyone would have done the same thing right?

It was better than walking around for ages.

She cleared her throat, only hoping that he wasn't rushing to go anywhere, the young woman approached the man. She caught up to his side and touched his arm very gently.

The woman was a little out of breath so it took her a few seconds to utter a word. "Good morning," she says in a breathy voice, "I'm sorry to be a disturbance, but could you please help guide me to a building called Empire?"

"The Empire headquarters?" The man replied in amusement. Little did she know, he was an associate for them already, and was just on his way to the market. It wouldn't hurt to help the poor girl!

But before he could even say anything, she interrupted ever so sweetly and continued. "Oh gosh... so rude of me. I haven't introduced myself. My mother taught me better. I'm Jane Doe," she finished, finally stopping in her tracks so she could let the man respond.

This morning seemed longer. The man wondered how on earth it was only 8am!

He had just exited the Empire HQ, a slice of buttered toast in one hand and a paper note in the other. There was going to be an issue with his employment, he couldn't just stand out from the local community and potentially be exposed to the FBN, so his outfit was rather plain.

So suddenly, he felt awkward standing in front of the very well-fitted woman in front of him.

Just before he was thinking of answering, he decided to take another bite from the corner crust of his buttered toast, wiping the crumbs onto the back of his woollen coat before looking up at her again.

The man had jumped when the lady, who presented herself as 'Jane Doe' touched his arm softly, snapping him back to reality. Just a few minutes ago, he barely even saw her approach him as he was too focused on getting to the market - not in a rush - but he just wanted to get it over and done with so that he had more time for his list of errands.

His eyes flickered to her fingers that touched his coat sleeve, the expression on the woman's face which probably indicated that her morning felt the same as his.

The man let a chuckle slip past his lips, which actually made Jane feel a little more relaxed. She thought he would reply in a fed up manner. She had gotten lucky, or he was just that kind.

"I'm John," he replied, his italian accent thick and satisfying to Jane's ear. "Empire, you say? I know a little something. Follow me." He finally admitted as he ran a hand through his hair.

Jane felt her shoulders relax as John started to speak. His chuckle which resounded in the air allowed her to just feel carefree and chill in that moment. Starting off on the right foot, was always a good thing.

Anyone else might have been offended from his very funny reaction to a stranger approaching him, but she decided to join in with him. She chuckled as well. She had always been an easy-going person, and there was certainly no harm done in his response to her.

"A pleasure to meet you, signore John," she replied gently, giving a silent thank you in her head to the person who once taught her some italian words at an OC meeting. The man could tell from her accent that she was a full American, even with her correct pronunciation of 'signore'.

"...Your accent is nice," Jane basically blurted out, unable to control herself from giving the compliment. She didn't regret it though. At least she wasn't being nasty about it.

A slight blush appeared on her cheeks after, but she shook her head and returned her attention back to what she approached him for. The man had invited her to follow him, so she followed suit, but she looked back at the slip of paper in her hands, and squinted her eyes a little.

"It says one of these buildings in Pioneer Square, also says to look for the door on the left when I walk in, which I assume is the office for new recruits, and then look for someone named Luna there."

After going over the written contents on the note, Jane realised that he wasn't really listening, merely humming to the sound of his own footsteps. She thought nothing of it, and maybe he was just thinking of something else. Or better yet... knew the way already.

But as a loud mouth and someone who often forgets her manners, she continued on. "Signore, I'm very sorry about going on and rambling about my destination - just very nervous about this... journey I'm about to embark," a shy smile was plastered on her face.

"I'm actually heading to the Empire HQ for the recruitment office. Some... guy... told me that I should there for a potential spot in a family. Looks like my good luck is finally catching up to me."

She bit down on her bottom lip as she walked with John, then smiled. "Why don't you tell me your plans for today? It will shut me up, and I might be able to help you out?"

Once she had stopped speaking, she covered her mouth with her hands as though it might stop her from speaking more. The gesture was similar to how a child would react when caught my their mothers doing a mischievous thing.

And yet again, her kindness shines through, so he responded to the bait.

I believe I need to have a recruit bring in their resume .... just so I know your capabilities. It is the least  they can do
