See, we in Illinois just like to pretend we're somewhere else. We've got Paris, Cuba, Cairo, Wyoming, Ottawa, Salem, Washington, Dakota, Oregon, Sparta, and even Metropolis. We even act like we're in comic books apparently.

Of course, some places aren't so far fetched. We do have the city of Normal after all.

And a couple oddballs. My favorite was one we recently drove through called Matanzas Beach. It's down by Snicarte and Bath.

There is a town in northwestern Oklahoma called hooker.  The local fitness club made Tshirts that said they were street walkers.  

Entrepelado. It's in portuguese but the translation in english is EnterNaked.

I can imagine me taking my clothes off to enter the city. ROFL

Could live in Oconomowoc, Waupun, Wausau, Suamico, Kaukauna, WI.

Or just live in Freedom, WI

I believe there's a Middlesex somewhere around here. Whether it's a county or a city I don't remember but once I was old enough to know it sure was funny to me and wondered why they came up with that name for.

There is a little village a few hours north of me in the Tri Cities area (in Virginia) called Elk Knob. First time I drove through it and saw the sign I almost wrecked my car because I was laughing so hard.

In fact I accidentally drove into a ditch (was an awesome recovery). No damage was done to my car cosmetically but I severely messed up my alignment and those cost almost as much as a used tire to fix.

There is a town in Wales called "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogog".

No, I didn't fall asleep on the keyboard. That is the actual name of the town. It's translation in Welsh is; St Mary's church in the hollow of the white hazel near to the fierce whirlpool of St Tysilio of the red cave.

I don't think ive ever seen a stranger town name.

It's not necessarily near me but there is a village called Wyre Piddle in England.  For those of you not getting the funny side, a piddle on the UK is slang-ish for pee.

So you have Wyre Piddly, located near the Piddle Brook and the pub serves Piddle In The Hole beer.

Makes me smile every time.
