It was on fire, all of it. Not literally, but in his mind's eye it might as well have been. It probably would've looked better if he HAD burned it all down, instead of people coming to see the slaughter he had left behind in his wake. To the common observer it was just that, a slaughter. Dead bodies littered all over the clan compound in different areas. Puddles of blood left as far as the eye can see. It looked like a monster had done this, little did everyone yet know, it was a 14 year old boy that had done it. He had help, but none that any would believe if he told them the name.

See, he was a family man, a pacifist. Two ironic descriptions considering the fact that he had just murdered his own clan, his family, his loved ones. All for the sake of peace, all for the sake of a mission, all for the sake of love. He was a walking hypocrite. The things he did and the things he believed in constantly contradicting each other, but who else could do the things that he had done? Who else would? No one. Itachi Uchiha, born to eventually lead the Uchiha clan, had murdered them all due to the fact they were poised to bring civil war upon his home village with their own coup-DE-tat.  That would only lead to more war from the other villages, and he would not allow such things to happen. He had seen war up close and personal. He could attest to the hell that it, and it's aftermath could bring, and he would not let it happen if there was something he could do to stop it. Him and his best friend were at sync in this belief. They tried fail safe after fail safe and none of them worked.  In the end their failures cost his best friend his own life.

His clan grew more focused, more determined to attack, and there was no more time for negotiations. Action had to be taken and he was the one to take it. To fight an Uchiha, you needed an Uchiha, so he became the weapon of the village. He was the weapon of peace. He was now one of the biggest targets of said village. They couldn't be made to look responsible for the genocide of one of their own clans, it was cause more outrage, more fear, and possibly more civil wars. No, he had to be put out to be the bad guy. It would be announced as a rogue attempt on his part, all on his own doing. He was to be branded a traitor to his village, a criminal.

Itachi knew all this beforehand, and agreed on the one condition that his little brother was to be left alive, and looked after. He was the one thing Itachi cared about more than the village and peace itself. The ones who gave the orders agreed, but he had to make absolutely sure. A threat to the darkness of the village, that he would reveal it's secrets and cause their ruin should they betray him, and a promise from the leader of the village that so long as he lived, his brother, the only thing he had left to care about, would be taken care of. The two men's word would be all he had to go on to assure his final loved one's safety.

He had plans to spy on a uprising group of criminals that could eventually pose a threat to the village he knew and loved from the outside. He was tempted to go and join, but in the end he couldn't do it. He was even advised not to do so. Others would take care of the group and who was he to go against them. He was a traitor who murdered his own blood, his own parents, his own lover. He was the lowest of the low. The most vile person.

He heard people talk, rumors swirl about his character and the decisions he made. People were very opinionated, especially when they didn't know the truth. Nobody really cared for the truth anyway, Itachi knew it was best to let people live on with their own opinions and judgements on situations that they didn't, or couldn't understand. Fools will be fools after all.

He carried on wandering. First it was just around his country, then it was around others. Going wherever it was his feet would take him. He eventually found himself washing up on the shores of America. A place that was split into many different areas once you got to the center of things, but truthfully it only came down to the people who were living well off and those who were in need. Itachi was neither. He was far from well off but he wasn't in need either. Or maybe he was? He was looking for something, a purpose, a goal, something to do, someone to serve.

"But who?" Itachi asked himself.

Who would want him, especially with his past? Did it matter? Of course it did. To some probably, to others they would look to use that. Could he be trusted? Could he be valued or redeemed? He didn't know. He set forth to find out. Maybe his goal would be to seek answers to the questions he asked himself. Maybe it would be to find and serve someone new until the time came for him to spread his wings once again. Was he just a traitor? A murderer? A human weapon, who's purpose it was to be pointed at enemies and sent to kill? He didn't know, but he was now determined to find out. And find out he would, a lot sooner than he thought.

Who, you ask, would take you on? A traitor to his own kind, a murderer of his own clan, a warrior with post war blues? You are of no use in the battlefield. However, I understand your urge, to be glorious, to find true purpose, to lead. I have a talent for seeing the talent in people, leading me to designate work efficiently. The Uchihas were a great clan. My kind owes them a favor. Serve for me, last surviving Uchiha, and you shall find what you are looking for.
