Moonlight in Seattle Started by: Roper on Sep 26, '18 21:45

Roper walked down the unfamiliar roads of Pioneer Square Seattle, he'd even go as far to say he felt out of place compared to the familiar tight packed streets and sky scrapers of Manhattan. His time in Seattle would be brief, he'd been dispatched on a simple collection run for his boss, which he already had procured.

The streets were quiet and the road was tinged with the silvered glow of moonlight. Roper liked taking walks late at night, it made the world in which he worked seem a worlds away from the one he was walking now. He gave a gentle sigh and smiled to himself, even this far away from home he could still find comfort in soft embrace of solitude.

It was then that Roper's inner monologue was disturbed by loud burst of a front door opening near him and a rather drunken woman staggering out into the cool air. Roper tilted his head up to get a better view of the noisy intruder, the brim of his white flat cap obstructing his hazel eyes. Within and instant, her eyes locked right on to his and she began to stagger towards him.

For a person of his particular talents, why did people keep finding him? He sighed when she started calling out to him.

Secra loved to spend her lonely nights drinking, but tonight was different, she had lost a bet and was trying to forget with a bottle of rum. She was a night owl, one who just watched the city of Seattle light up at night. Knowing the streets like the back of her hand she was known by the members of the city.

She undid her hair tie as she stood and walked to the door, opening the door without realizing she had flung it open she saw a man. Thats when she made her way towards him calling out to him. "Hey you there!" She shouted louder then she wanted, her usually soft and sweet voice was slurred from her alcohol a bit ago. Stepping down the steps she slipped and hit the ground.

Taking a minute while dazed she slowly stood up before moving towards him again her green eyes shining, she stopped in front of him. The smell of rum on her breath she stared at him before asking, "Do you happen to have a burrito? Or rum?" She could see in his eyes he was unsure as to what to make of her presence at least thats what she thought.

Roper's walk came to a halt as he watched this spectacle in front of his unfold. He watched the woman in front of him fall completely flat on her face, he couldn't help but stifle a laugh. The streets at night also tended to bring their own surprises and sometimes it threw a little treat like this to him. He watched her rise and carrying on stumbling towards him, his feeling of annoyance turning to one of opportunity, he settled his smirk for one of bemusement.

As she stopped on front of him and asked her rather slurred question, he considered her and tactfully replied "Miss, Do i look like I'm carrying either of those things?" He said in a sarcastic tone, he feigned a sigh and offered her a question "Look, I do happen to know a good Mexican joint near here though that could sate your burrito desire though" He hadn't actually been in the restaurant and only passed it on the way here but she didn't need to know that.

She nearly stumbled on him again "Do you want me to take you there?" He offered her support just in-case she wanted to hug the pavement again.

Secra stared at him, she saw the smirk before he questioned what she had asked for. "You never know these days," She listened to what he said about the Mexican restaurant, and grinned happily. "Yes please!" She happily exclaimed with her slurred voice. Taking his offer on support she walked slowly until she was able to tell where her feet were under her as her alcohol buzz was wearing down.

She was short, and quiet for the most part but it was normal for her to always lose a bet and get the way she was. She rarely went out when drinking but she happened to have for air only to find someone walking behind her home. "So what are you doing here in Seattle? New, visiting? Never seen a face like yours around here." She was curious, her slurred speech slowly edging off as she sobered up while walking by him.

It was pretty quiet until they made it to the main road, occasional passerby's from the local bars and late night shops were open and busy. Thankfully she knew about the Mexican restaurant and since it had a bar it would stay open to pretty late.

Roper gave a softened smile as he offered his support. While she was leaning on him he managed to get a get a sly hand down her coat pocket and unbeknownst to her, fish out her wallet and swift-fully stash it with his own jacket, all while carrying on the role of the good Samaritan. When she felt she could stand on her own two feet and not face plant the floor again he let her stand by herself. "You got yourself pretty bladdered on that bet then miss" Roper remarked on her condition.

They walked together up the road, Roper cautiously watching Secra's walking condition and the positioning of her hands. She hadn't noticed what he had done. He decided to keep her distracted by answering her question "You'd indeed be correct miss. I'm new around these parts, I'm here mostly on business or though now with your fine company, Pleasure"

They both reached the quiet Mexican restaurant and bar Roper would come to find out, his bluff had paid off and they both entered the restaurant. The interior could be considered gaudy, almost like you would see at the Día de Muertos festival. The proprietor of the establishment was trying too hard. Tables lined the front of the restaurant each with a little menu and a basket of condiments. The bar was situated at the back, manned by an over-weight Mexican man. Dressed in a poncho and big brimmed sombrero, his facial expression could be described as miserable.

"Where would you like to head? Do you wanna take a seat at the front or hit the bar at the back? Both are my treat miss" Roper gave her a killer smile as he asked.

Being the kind of person she was she rarely cared more the a couple hundred due to the line of business she was in. It was fine, she walked without a care to avoid giving off the kind of person she was. "well, I was at the bar and lost some rounds of blackjack." She was alright with walking now after some time.

By the time they made it to the street he had answered her question. "Well pleasure to see new visitors in Seattle." She smiled, she knew her pocket felt lighter, but she played it off, as her imagination. Time to see what kind of man he is, she thought to herself. Walking into the restaurant.

Inside she smiled at the Mexican man who recognized her, "To the back." She answered quickly after slipping a small folded paper into the mexican mans hand before heading towards the back, the man would head off to read her request. She wandered to the back where she would sit at the quiet table as the front of the business was busy. "So, what may your name be?" She stared at him with green eyes.

Roper nodded and followed her to the back and sat at the chair opposite hers. He removed his black leather jacket and slid it onto the chair behind him revealing a pristine white shirt. He took of his cream flatcap and placed it on his lap, his flat.cap never traveled to far away from him, once he felt comfortable he sleeked back his dark brown hair and answered Secra's question.

"Mr. Anthony De Palo but please, call me Roper" The ever present game smile was present, exuding a presence of confidence. He started to reach for the menu "How about the pleasant lady opposite me, What's your name miss?" he asked back as he cracked open the menu. He hadn't counted her money yet but this meal really wasn't on him. Nothing quite as pleasurable as a free lunch.

Secra watched him until he started speaking, wondering what kind of guy he was. Though she really had no care, but she wondered if he could be useful or if he was just a porker that tried to bust every job she did.

She bushed back her white hair from her face and stared at Roper for a good few minutes as he spoke and seemed to relax. Her green eyes had a piercing gaze to them but yet somehow a gentle feeling which seemed to be confusing to anyone looking at the details.

"Ah, well my name is Secra." She smiled softly as the waiter came over and looked at them.

"Drink and food?" The man said with a irritated grunt. Secra smiled and spoke sweetly, "Just a rum." She also ended up ordering herself a burrito and looked at Roper as the man waited to take his order.

"Enchilada's. With extra cheese"

Roper told the waiter writing down the orders. The waiter nodded and just before he turned away Roper piped up

"Also bring a bottle of Jacks and a glass. I like to drink it straight" The waiter nodded again and replied with an annoyed tone "Of course senior" before departing to front counter to prepare their order

Roper played with his fingers on the table but his eyes barely left Secra's. "Secra, That's a pretty name" He said with a slight name and slicking his hair "You've got interesting hair, I've never met a person with complete white hair who wasn't also in their 60's and 70's. Is it dyed?"
