They say if you ever want to move up in life you gotta make your bones first. If two weeks ago I thought my life was gonna be robbing old ladies and spending nights in whore houses until the end of my days, after I met these guys and see the kind of lifestyle they have, living like queens and kings many times with the only occupation being collecting money all week-long, made me realize the old me was just a cocksucker.
I was gonna join the ride, and I was gonna do it the fastest I could.
As far as I can remember I was told this entire society is sustained by one and only thing: trust. If you're not trusted, you're not going far. And that's already excluding the fact you might end up getting wacked. So before the money, before the reputation, before the power, you had to show everyone around how trustworthy you are.
If there was something I wanted to do right now, was to show the city of Philadelphia they could count on me. At this moment it was, I could safely say, an obsession.
Meanwhile, South Philly was there for the taking. The family had an opportunity to expand the operation, make money, recruit more soldiers, and with that ending up getting more influence throughout the map. But first? You needed to rule out the competition.
If there was a definite demonstration of one's commitment to a cause it was killing to prove it. How deeper can you get on the plot other than shutting down someone?
In my head, the more people I clipped, the more years a judge wanted me to spend in jail, the more people knew I wasn't gonna turn my back to the family. There´s a point you're so deep in the shit you just can't, unless you decide to go for a swim, and that was not an option for me.
The Race Street Operation was organizing the troops for the South Philly takeover. It felt like a country invading other. Except this was the everyday mob war for territory.
I wasn't anywhere near to the places where decisions were made. I just sat outside while waiting for orders from the inside. Every five minutes you saw a convoy of cars marching towards South Philly. My time was about to come, I could feel it. It was madness. And beautiful at the same time.
I can't quiet remember who told me so, but the idea got stuck in my head. Someone told me one day that there's no better time to create a bond with people other than killing together. Can you imagine going any deeper with someone other than having one of your pals saving your ass by stabbing someone in the throat just moments before he could pop your brains against a sidewalk? A twisted version of love if you ask me.
You should see the faces of the surrounding guys. Some sort underworld warriors, roaring to shoot as if saying to their enemies that this fucking shit is theirs.
“Stop smoking kid. Makes you look nervous. It's time, follow me”
I threw my cigarette onto the floor and followed a few men climbing inside a car. Here I was. Ready to do my part in this war. On my left I had Adonis, Eddie to my right. Two guys that were trying to teach me how to aim a gun properly as well as the art of being a mobster. A new convoy of cars, we were in the last of a list of five. Being driven as fast as they could to reach South Philly.
Our car makes a right, and as we change street we start hearing bullets fly our way. Our current target was BroadStreetCharlie but before we had the chance to put him six feet under we had to go through an army of bodyguards.
I was so nervous I didn't really know who just before being expelled out of the car told me "This is where bones are made and bones are broken. Show everybody what you're made of, and especially, don't disappoint me. Now aim at the weakest bodyguards and don't forget — shot everyone twice”
