According to numerous police reports, many renown criminals and mob bosses had been gun down. Civilians had also been included in the mix. However, it is unknown whether their involvement was unintentional or intentional. As the introduction of Prohibition makes its entrance, more and more gangsters are being thrusted into recruitment. But-.. There are those who voluntarily decide to enter the life of crime - for better or for worse, we shall see. *** Luna idly sat on a wooden bench. It was rested on the concrete grounds near an abandoned park. The swings and slides were once occupied by cheerful, little children while their fathers and mothers gently reassured them that they would be back to fetch them for supper. They might have said, "We'll be back before you know it, sweetie." Little did they know, their little ones would have already been swooped by a couple of gangsters shortly after their absence. Child kidnapping in the twenties was... well... a great money maker. Criminals who walked the streets in the day and night weren't alone in enjoying what advantages kidnapping gave them. Racketeers often did it because the era - for them, was defined as snatch racket. They exposed the sick, twisted idea of 'a kidnapping spree', which was driven by pure greed, lack of fulfilment, or just stupidity. Needless to say, those kidnapped children never saw their parents again. Luna could only imagine the horrors of what they went through. Imagine having your first child snatched by an organization gang. Fortunately for Luna, her way into the lifestyle had gone differently... and was without force. These thoughts began to make Luna question the current state of the world. Why can't we all just leave in peace and prosperity? Why do we have to place innocent children in vulnerability? Can we stop making the front pages of our newspapers be about their demise? But no one cared. Or no one bothered to care anymore. It might just be too much to ask for. |

She was right after all, wasn't she? It really was too much to ask for - especially in an era like this. It was dark, full of menace, and downright disturbing. Luna hoped that years later in the future people wouldn't look back and call their history 'fascinating'. The truth was that you'd have to be living it to know what to make of it. Luna had grown increasingly aware of the booming criminal enterprise being spawned across the nation. Unfortunate victims was the result of it, and sadly the reasons behind most of the crimes being committed were never solved or released to the public. The streets had taught Luna many things. She was given more than what she had bargained for. 1. People had money. A fuckton of it. Money could drive people to do some crazy things. Money lured you in, ate at your soul, and made you clung to your materialistic desires. Corrupt agents were corrupt because of it. People were kept quiet because of it. Luna hadn't been involved in this way of life for a long time unlike others, but she quickly learned that when you get the money - you get the power to do anything and be anything. Some morphed themselves into Hollywood socialites, others made themselves into a millionaire. The worst part was that these things were all happening meanwhile in another part of the globe, there was someone being dug deeper into their grave. Their disappearance would then bring a headline on the newspapers the next morning. Newspaper companies probably got an adrenaline rush from how much impact these horrific tales would bring on their audiences. They made profit off of people's deaths. Wasn't that just so sick? The streets. It taught her many things. It taught her how to develop trust issues. |
