| 10 year expiration on Reserved Names | Started by: Zoom on Oct 15, '18 22:44 |

I would like to see a 10 year expiration set for Reserved Names. That is, 10 years from the date you Reserved a name, if you have not used it, you lose it - and get refunded half of your credits. (Additionally, I think that if you Delete a reservation you should get back half of the creds you spent on it)
The only downside that has been brought to my attention is that some people would have a hard time using all of the names in their list before that deadline. Here are two very easy ways around that; Die more often. Delete your reservation...and then re-do it if the name means that much to you.
Any other drawbacks that I may have missed? |

I think this would be reasonable. Otherwise someone might reserve a variety of popular names, but then stop playing MR, and now those names are unusable forever. |

Precisely situations like that, JackMezzo. Also - https://gyazo.com/f29f260644a6b2311cdd50320c5891b5 When the feature first got put in(before the 20 name limit) a lot of people snagged up names that other players like to use, for, presumably, the lols. |

Huh, I was under the impression that you could only have them for a year. ChristianGato [Expires: Nov 06, '17 16:27] What does the Expires refer to then? Personally I don't have trouble with people using my names, but I can imagine someone in that situation is pretty bummed out. But waiting for 10 years to get your name back seems a little...unhelpful. If you're in a situation like that, I mean. Maybe a clean up of players who have not played for 10 years or names which they have not used for 10 years, but implementing a policy of waiting for ten years doesn't really seem like a solution to getting a name back. I'd probably make another one. Can understand your rationale though. |

Errr, I'm not quite sure what the expiration on that one is for to be honest, I have one on a single one of my Reserved names as well. "but implementing a policy of waiting for ten years doesn't really seem like a solution to getting a name back."
Waiting 10 years from the time they reserved it* - so a considerable chunk of time less than that for some of us :( I haven't been able to use my favorite playing name since like 2015. It'd be nice to know that eventually i'll get the damn thing back. |

AH, from the date of reservation, ok yeah, that's probably a bit better. Agreed! |

| What about people who passed away with a reserved name and some lowlife decides to use such name? I honestly think that maybe, just maybe a name should come off the reserve list if a player goes ia for 5 years. 10 years seems a bit steep for a player who is gone for such period. I also think that if a name has value one should reserve that name while playing with it. From my understanding if someone puts 500 hours on a name and doesn't reserve it the gods will do so for them. I may be wrong, but none the less we as players have the option to keep such name while on it. Now I've heard stories of people grabbing a ton of names which does suck, but what price will one pay to get it back? It could be looked at from a business aspect to. | |

I asked Izzy about this once. If you have an account that plays over a certain number of hours (I think it was 500?) it's automatically reserved for a year.
I do agree with this suggestion, however, I think ten years is a bit extreme. Five might be more realistic. |
