| GAME CHANGE: Notification of someone gunning for you | Started by: Squishy on Nov 02, '18 22:03 |

As Kristoff said, it can be used to create paranoia, notably at no cost. I feel that we have that covered with anon codes. I understand that it technically is risking the shooter's life, and that stealth isn't perfect, but ... imagine some guy on vision loads up like twenty tabs of people in the opposite district, and clicks on every one sending them a personal... Another issue with the change is that different cities have a different number of districts. Generally speaking though, in the event of a real shooter trying to shoot someone, they swap districts instantaneously and shoot in the right one. In the middle of a war, this could be toyed with heavily to lure someone into a different district for an even bigger gun to shoot them etc without their proer there etc. Example, the proed target is in Summerlin, and the main shooter and his friend are in the strip. His friend shoots at the target... and the target gets the alert. The proed target then goes into Summerlin to shoot the friend... loses his pro, and then the main shooter kills him. Pickpocketing and bg shooting are already decent lures to get someone to drop their pro... This adds in another dynamic. It could also help draw wars out by making people fly away more, and it gives a lot of power to little guns to bait bigger targets since most may just have a gut reaction to fly instead of descrambling the personal. I don't see an added benefit for the change, mainly because most moves are done almost instantly (so the decedent wouldn't even see the personal), and its main utility would be more for paranoia stirring/stealthing than actually being a tipoff for something real. Adding another way to lure someone into another district changes war strategy too much, and I don't think that was intended. |

I personally do not see any issues. war as we know it is, well, just that, we know it. we know it works, we know how it runs. we have been doing it for years. I think mixing that process up and offering a slight dynamic change is not a bad thing at all-how can it be?
i do have a question though, to all the crew leaders of this world....if you wasnt a crew leader, who had capped bgs and can shoot through the capped amount bgs would this be a change that you would be so adversely against? what i mean is, if you was the little guy, or the guy that was fed up/board of a top heavy system, would you be so against this?
this is what i mean when i say its a very emotive and a time accepted or unaccepted change, IMO. |

Space-pole in regards to this:
"what i mean is, if you was the little guy, or the guy that was fed up/board of a top heavy system, would you be so against this? "
your answer is yes
sincerely, the little guy, the bored guy |

| It hurts the "little" players even more. Us big guys who are well over 100 days old can now have 101 vision and 101 stealth. The people without this will have a bigger disadvantage if this game play change goes into effect. Not to mention once again the HUGE disadvantage for players in cities with only two districts compared to three. | |

lets take your logic by the hand and run with it... IF your ethos is correct then surly nothing changes through fear of the name being exposed due to the 100 vs 101 of older "over 100 days old players" so why would anyone try their hand? so your logic makes no sense, right? ive seen this so, so many times over the years, account age has so much to do with this, people are so scared to loose old accounts and anything like this that could jepodise the utopia that these old accounts live in is bad mkaaay? well no, actually its not. Im well qualified to make this statement as i fall into the top heavy side of this scenario. There are many game features that allow for creating issues, rogues, bg shots, stealth accounts, high info accounts. groups of people that go incog to get revenge. mass durds to bring your guns up etc etc and they have to remain in the game. pp'ing to cehck bg status, the list goes on. and they have to remain in the game for one simple purpose and its what i call "the what if factor" once that leaves the game it becomes stale, it becomes top heavy. I dont care what anyone here has to say. if you train your gun you enjoy war, you enjoy killing things. tis the nature of the beast. but vito-ing features like this is absurd, imo. and its done so because people get comfortable at the top. its the same with the paulson/marla/tyler ws scenario. We have become far too comfortable and the big guys of this world see threat in anything like this and are so fast to jump on it.
on the split side, i thin its being overthought, for what its worth. i genuinely only ever looked at this from a war pov and how it could change the dynamic and i for one, am all for it! |

Space-pole you are missing a few pieces of information here. On Lounge Squishy specified that it would lean more towards Stealth > Info. So the stealth users would have the advantage in causing paranoia. If two users signed up on on pure stealth and and one was 1 day old, the other is 100, the 1 day old would get away with his paranoia tactics scott free 99% of time because stealth does not come with great info. Unless the 100 day old user that kept their posting up constantly they have a very little chance of seeing their attacker, just like if a person had taken a shot at them for real. Unlike sending anon credits, starting rumors, BG shots, scheming, this feature would be a completely free way to cause paranoia. At least anon codes cost something. At least rumors and scheming take effort and time. At least taking a stealth BG shot uses your timer. This feature costs nothing and takes absolutely nothing.
I personally do not think that people in power such as ourselves need any more advantages. We have our rank/CL/RH/LH boosts, we have our 200 BGs, we have our networks of people that work for us. We already have huge advantages and I don't see why the game should be skewed more towards the top end of players. I am not saying that this feature totally cements us in our positions but it does give us an advantage without question. If anyone wanted to make moves whether on their own or as a group it gives the defending parties an advantage especially if they are found in a city with 3 districts as many have pointed out. Would we survive and life would go on? Sure. I just don't think this feature adds too many benefits as a whole picture. For you to come here and say that people are against this because we are "comfortable" and that we see this is as a "threat" is a little insulting. I don't think anyone is here advocating against this feature for their own gain. Here I am listing out many multiple reasons why this is bad so that potentially change can happen, meaning my own demise, and you still pull that out. I don't know if you didn't read what people actually said or just didn't read it closely enough. Many would say that it is you that has become comfortable and like this feature because you are trying to preserve what you have. That is not me directly accusing you. That is me saying that the shoe fits more squarely on your foot than ours. |

it has nothing to do with insulting you personally...YOU ASKED ME TO OUTLINE MY THOUGHTS ON IT so i have! if you feel insulted then thats on you, if you want to play it like that, i have had about 2.5million in tips for that post. Also has noting to do with anyone demise. im saying its a fresh feature that i feel will add extra elements that we dont already have to time when things are, lest say very comfortable for the people who have big accounts. I am not saying anything out of turn or anything ground breaking here. Look at the numbers, look at the ages. In all my 14 years here i can honestly say that ive never seen the rank break down like it is combined with the account age that are about. So adding a little extra spice to the game i dont think is that much of a huge issue and like ive said, i think its being totally over thought anyway
Wasnt in lounge.
that might be the case, but would they be able to act on that, based on those account ages, very, very doubtful. So all that it creates is a little bit of paranoia (which by the way, always exists, its always been around) i dont think adding something like this would tip that balance in afvour of this 1 day old, far from it in fact.
and how many anon credits actually transpire to mean shit? how often are these even taken seriously? how often is there enough bg shots on someone to actually degrade their account? how often is the rumor mill from 1 day old accounts taken seriously? the answer to those is not very often and this feature will have the exact same effect (with paranoia)
My whole issue with "top heavy" is that the cl's of the world are all focusing on this word "paranoia" for em that speaks for its self. i really, honestly im struggling to want to debate that issue with this. as my whole stand point was from a war logistics and how that wold change the dynamic. ive been dragged into a debate with a few CL's of the paranoia aspect. I hand on my heart think that this feature is totally being overthought |

totally incorrect and doesnt really make any sense based on what i have said. How is preserving what i have if im eligible to get the same treatment as the crew leaders and the top heavy part of this world?
AND LETS FACE IT, PEOPLE ARE COMFORTABLE. am i saying tis a bad thing, you'll not see me say that anywhere because i have not. its actually not a bad time to be alive, if im honest. i also have not singled any out, so not sure why you have taken it upon your self to point my finger at you. ive said the higher folk of the world. i have not said the yetti over there is scared and is comfortable and is afraid to die, thats why eh deosnt want it. Ill say this for the last time, the whole feature and argument from POV is from a war perspective and i like that i could change the dynamics. and i do think its being totally overthought in general |

I am imploring you to look at this big picture and not just your own little war bubble, this era, or sphere of experience. Think about it like this feature will be in the game for the duration that MR is a game, not just during this current time period. I am trying to look at the big picture. We are not two fighting children and I did not mean for you to feel called out, that is my fault. These are two adults having a debate about a game feature, nothing more. My overaching point is that this feature helps the large and powerful people (such as ourselves) more than the little guy. In the last few years we have seen other game changes and features to take away from the power at the top end of the game (WS's being removed, smaller crews, BG tiers being changed to be more vague) and I think that is a good thing. I feel like this feature is a move directly away from that ideology. On paranoia. I think most people know I am all for it. The rumor mill and the conflict is what drives this game at its core. What I was trying to say is that this feature costs nothing to cause paranoia, not even time or effort. As I stated codes cost credits, rumors take time and thinking. This feature allows for effortless personals to be sent out. I personally have seen many times throughout the years where rumors have gotten whole cities murdered. I've seen anon codes be taken seriously. I can remember times when BGs were being shot at a healthy rate from stealth accounts. I know you have too because we have lived through those times together. We both know these things happen even if they aren't recent or overly often. If you really think that us being comfortable in our positions is a bad thing why would you support a feature that directly puts more advantages for us to stay comfortable? It adds another layer of protection for people like us to have a warning that someone is gunning for us. This directly gives us an advantage to say comfortable where we are. When I said the shoe fits directly on your foot I meant your position, not you personally. Again I apologize if you felt I was going after you personally. I am attacking your position, not you personally. I think we both agree that the world is very comfortable at the moment and that's not exactly healthy for the extreme long term. I think we just differ on in our views on how this feature will effect our comfort factor. |

you have not made me feel like you have called me out. absolutely happy to debate/discuss with you. without it getting nasty. i do look see things as a bigger picture and im not adverse to this feature. i dont think its a game changer and i dont think that its going to have a huge, huge impact.
maybe i have read this feature wrong, but im not sure how it benefits the big guy?
i do agree, but i think where i was at thinking about this is already pre war, as first waves are mostly deadly and there isnt much left to mop up. im more thinking about the longer types of war, war where things might not go to plan, or a full user reset where we already know shit has hit the fan, we know people are gunning for us etc. i think it then adds a layer of dynamics and decision making etc. i suppose thats why i like it and where i was going with it .
This agree with and i think on the whole, we are kind of saying the same things about game/play style.
Zero offence taken btw. and i 10000% agree with your thinking on the game, i think you already know how i approach stuff anyway, we have the same ideologies most of the time. I think we where just at different stand points on the feature. as ive said further up, probably didnt make it more clear.

Here is my two cents. When I read the upcoming game change my first thoughts were/are there is an uneven playing field as some cities have three districts. I came to the thread and read others have the exact same concern. I took the time to review others thoughts and I too am not in agreement with this change. I don't have 12 or 14 years in, but I think 7 years (self training for the most part) is enough to time qualify me to say I do believe RedRocket hit the nail on the head. I suppose I should keep an eye on "game suggestion" department more often so I can give feedback.
I am not sure if this upcoming change be tweaked to benefit both young and old.
Perhaps Squishy can jump back on and address our concerns. I know enough to know he is a fair man. |

If you are shooting at someone from the wrong district, that means you can not see where that person is. So based on that how can you kill someone you can not see anyway? I know this goes off track, but if you are unable to see someone in locals then how are you shooting them anyway? |

Maggie the point isn't that it. It's the fact that this can be done on purpose to send a message to create paranoia. 90% of the time. So it will be purposly done so the message will he sent. |

I find it interesting to see the different point of views on this.
To answer you Yheti, I actually saw this change as help for the smaller guys. Yes, it disadvantages rogues and gives an advantage to the top people. But, these days wipes are too easy to pull off imo. Even with 101 stealth people, you got sooo many ways of finding people, trying to wack them being one of them. I believe this change will make it harder to organize full wipes like we are now used to and hopefully will spice up the war aspect of this game. |

| I would just like to say this Space-pole here it would create huge Paranoia and there would be more Wars than there usually is. I believe this would only benefit the Rogues of this world of ours and in the best part ruin the game as we know it. | |
