It had been a promising day meeting the guys and playing some cards but now Samuru had found himself drunk, sitting on the ground outside the bar and soaking wet from the rain, things surely couldn't get any worse.. That was until Samuru checked his pocket to see how much cash he had left and noticed his wallet was missing. Now things couldn't get any worse.. "Hey you, get up from there, such a shame to see you homeless, now take this." "Come on, Ge..." Before the sentence could be finished Samuru jumped to his feet complete with a drunken stagger and pointed about 2 feet wide of the man and snapped. "I am not homeless you fool, I have lost my wallet, and.." But before Samuru could get his words out the man had turned and shouted to two associates of his who we're standing next to an impressive looking car and told them to find the wallet, the man then put his arm around Samuru who to say the least looked a little puzzled. "Don't worry, my guys will find your wallet and i'll ensure it's safely returned to you, but for now let's take a ride and get dry." Samuru didn't really have anywhere else to go and it was pretty wet out so decided to go with it, once inside the man signalled his driver to go and then introduced himself. "So, I am Don Random and you met my guys earlier down at the docks, they tell me you are looking for work and your father was a Don previously in our lost city of New Orleans." Samuru looked even more puzzled and stopped Don Random before he could continue. "No, I think you have made a mistake.. my father was a business man and sold insurance." Don Random burst out with laughter and soon after realizing Samuru was being serious explained that Samuru's father was infact a Don himself once before down in Orleans and that his associate had recognized the men in the picture from the missing wallet. "No, my father was a good man he wrote to me and never mentioned anything you are saying." Samuru sat silent for a moment thinking about his father before being snapped back to reality as the car door slammed shut, which had surprised Samuru as he hadn't even noticed the car had stopped, suddenly he was presented with a dripping wet wallet and a smiling Don Random. "Told you Mr. Tachibana, here is your wallet safe and sound, now.. I understand what i've told you may be hard to accept but please consider coming to meet with myself and the guys one evening and we can discuss things more, you never know you may find people who knew your old man and get some answers for yourself." Don Random then informed Samuru they we're outside the motel he was staying at and ensured him things would work out, Samuru turned and began to walk away when the car honked once and an envelope was thrown out of the window before the car sped off into the distance, once inside Samuru opened the envelope to find a large sum of money and an address hand written on a piece of paper slipped inside, Samuru threw all the contents onto the table next to his bed and lay down before finally drifting into a deep booze induced slumber. The next day Samuru decided he should at least go talk to Don Random and return the money, however on the way he found himself thinking about what Don Random had said about working and maybe finding the truth about his father, as he approached the address given to him there we're rows of cars parked outside and a few men sitting outside laughing and joking with each other, having seen Samuru approach one of the men who Samuru recognized from the docks shouted to Don Random who emerged from the building looking as well dressed as the previous night Samuru had met him. "Good to see you Samuru, and so soon, so what can I do for you" Samuru took a deep breath thinking he may regret what he was about to do next but the simple fact that these men seemed to know more about his father than he did made Samuru's decision for him. "Don Random, I am here for work" Don Random smiled and beckoned one of his associates who introduced themselves to Samuru and told him to get in the car we have work to do, with that Samuru found himself riding in the back as they went to collect protection money and pay off local politicians, Samuru had never been involved with things like this but he found himself enjoying his new found life and the family he now had around him, a far cry from the innocent Japanese immigrant who arrived in America just days ago. |
