Thoughts about the future Started by: DebbyRyan on Nov 21, '18 20:37

DebbyRyan was returning to her city after a brief passage through newly occupied Chicago. At her side sat a gentleman who seemed a bit shaken, and this man held a portrait in his hands. A few miles had already been traveled, and Debby could no longer contain her curiosity and looking at him, she asked,

"Good morning, sir. I don't want to disturb you, but I couldn't fail to notice your despondency. Why are you so sad?"

The man raised his head and said slowly, "The boy in this photo was my son, and he died two days ago."

"Oh, I'm sorry for the loss you've suffered. Was he the victim of an accident or illness? "Debby asked in order to help the poor soul perhaps express, and accept his recent loss better.

"No, girl. He belonged to a family of mobsters, and he thought he was protected by them, but he made a big mistake when he tried to be smarter and steal from them," the old man replied with regret.

DebbyRyan looked frightened and thought to herself, "How could anyone steal from their own family and think they could get away with it?" Shaking her head, she noticed that she was already arriving in Philadelphia, and said goodbye to the poor old man.

Itachi_Uchiha and Nikita were waiting for her at the airport, and waved as soon as they spotted her.

"What a pleasant surprise to see you two waiting for me. Did we have something planned?" Debby smiled at her friends.

Nikita took three invitations out of her pocket for a dinner and dancing, and pulled Debby and Itachi by the arm to where their car was parked. Debby sat in the backseat as usual, and told the story of the man who had traveled by her side.

Noting that both seemed absorbed in the story, she took advantage and said, "Do you know any other story like this? And what advice would you give to anyone who will enter in this life"

Nikita paced the airport lounge then checked the time once more.  The plane was due to land at any moment, and she was anxious to get reacquainted with an old friend.  She had the evening planned out for some fun and relaxation.  Something she knew Debby would enjoy, at least Nikita hoped her friend hadn't changed much in the time since she saw her last.  Securing tickets at a local establishment for an exquisite dinner, and a show, Nikita turned towards Itachi noting that his look was impassive.  It irked her somewhat that he wasn't bothered, and she was herself, but it was usually nervewracking to delve into her past.  It was one thing to let go of the past, but Debby was a close friend, so Nikita was excited to see her once again.  It had been quite a while.  She broke the quietness as she spoke to Itachi.

"Hey Itchy, the plane is about to land, so let's head to the gate."

She took a few steps towards the lounge door then glanced back to see his expression of the token nickname their bossman had granted him. A smirk appeared at the corner of her mouth then Nikita nodded her head for him to get a move on it.  Once they arrived at the gate a short time later, Nikita kept a close eye on the departures from the airplane as they filtered through the gate.  She spotted Debby with ease thankfully. The lovely lady hadn't changed much at all.  Nikita waved briefly to gain her attention then went to greet her friend with a smile.

"Of course we would meet you here.  Yes just like old times.  Dinner and a show, headlining a few up and coming stars."

She had retrieved the tickets from the jacket pocket, waved them in the air with a smile before tucking them back hidden away.

"How was the flight?"

Itachi had honestly no idea what he was doing along on this adventure. Nikita who was his partner in the organization had told him that an old friend was coming to visit and she requested his presence along with them. In the beginning Itachi wondered if he was going to be the driver for the day and that would have made some sense but Nikita set it up to have a driver of her own along with a car to drive them around. Itachi didn't really mind, he didn't have anything better to do but spend another quiet day doing security duties at the airport in Philly, and another night watching over his old friend from afar and making sure she was safe. If he wasn't doing one or the other then he would've been reflecting on life and he would take any opportunity he could to get away from another night of that.

He dressed casually but seeing the way the ladies dressed he didn't feel like he was that outdone which was a relief that it wasn't an overly formal affair. Nikita's friend seemed like a nice woman and she must've known that Itachi would be here to meet her or at least be joining them for their outing. Itachi was slightly amused by this as it seemed he was the only one to not be in the know on what exactly was going on here today. Itachi was also amused as to why Nikita really brought him along. Usually she only brought him along with her if they had a mission or some kind of work to get done. This was out of the norm and it amused him to see this other side of her. He was sure she would be irritated with him if he shared these thoughts so he kept them to himself.

Once her friend showed up, Nikita quickly pulled Itachi, her friend and herself along to the car she had arranged to wait for them and drive them around. Itachi believed he heard Nikita mention they would be heading to dinner and a show. He took the front seat to allow the two ladies to share the backseat together, or rather he was forced to take the front seat as the two ladies quickly claimed the backseat. Itachi didn't mind. He gave the driver a respectful nod to which the man returned.

He listened to the two women in the back catch up and chat for a bit. The lady who's name was apparently Debby then suddenly began to talk about a guy who she had met on her way to meet Nikita and himself. He told her a story about his son and his subsequent death. It led her to ask the two of them if they had any advice for someone who was going to enter this life they all seemed to be in. That confirmed Itachi's suspicion that this woman was also apart of the same life that they were. Itachi pondered the question before giving a loud sigh.

"The best advice to give someone who plans to enter this life is to not enter this life at all. This isn't a life someone should choose lightly as usually once you're in there is no getting out alive, unless you're extremely smart or extremely lucky, or somehow both. Either way death eventually comes for us all and those who have done wrong will not escape this life without having wrong done to them or those they love. Honestly this isn't a life that people should choose if they have a choice but rather one that should adapt to, prepare for, and accept if they DON'T have any options left." Itachi answered.

As he responded with his answer his eyes never left the window that he was looking out of and taking in the passing scenery from. He also didn't mind the heavy silence that lingered in the car after he gave his answer. His answer was one that was supposed to leave people to think after all. He also didn't mind if he was considered a killjoy, he was asked his opinion after but he secretly and slightly hoped he didn't damper the mood too much as it truly wasn't his intention.
