Stir Of Echoes Started by: Teobaldo on Nov 15, '10 16:34

A hooded figure exits the alley by the coffee shop. Intriguing to the eye you open your ears to hear what he has to say.

Every now and then I hear the echoes of past leaders creeping through the streets. Some complaining of economy, many explaining their reasoning behind actions made, some giving their farewell speeches after they leave this world of ours. I think that I'm not the only person who hears these echoes. In fact, I know I'm not the only one.

Nodding as if you understand what he's speaking about you continue to listen.

Some of these voices are angry, some sad, some happy. My question is this, what can we learn from the echoes?

Somewhat making sense of which direction the conversation is taking you get even more interested.

We as a species have always adapted to circumstance, and the only way we are capable of such would be to learn from past experiences correct?

For example, let's just say you're a pimp. We can all relate to this no?

So you're a pimp and you go to collect on your earnings, yet when you hit the streets you forgot to bring your notepad with the addresses of which your broads are located. However, you can find half of them based purely off memory, except today you were really in need of the cash which was expected. So now, you have wealthy hookers, who may or may not take the money and run if you don't show up to collect, and you have a debt which you couldn't afford.

So in the future, do you think you'd forget your notebook? Fuck no, in fact you'd probably tattoo the addresses to your ass to be safe.

Then why is it, after years upon years of ancestors, or even months for that matter, do some Mafioso's continuously make the same mistakes?

I for one am proud to have opened my ears to the echoes that roll through the streets. Granted, in no way am I a perfect mobster, but I'll be damned if I leave my notebook sitting on my bed again.

What have you learned from the echoes you hear, or do they just past by unheard fading silently into the night?

The hooded figure walks towards a wall close-by and lights a cigarette, takes a puff and leans to the wall as he continues his smoke.

What you're mistaking for echos is actually the large bulk of Derek as he makes his daily waddle through the bins of the streets.

He is so large that sound-waves are affected.

Teobaldo takes another puff of the cigarette

You just gave me an idea Ancalagon, you may be right. Sound waves can be greatly affected with such weight like his.

Reds slowly nods his head, walking up near Teobaldo to enter his two cents.

Ah heard a lot of mah family her' in America didn' do so hot, even after they taught they got it made for 'em. Some of 'em made mistakes that cost 'em careers, 'n' life, 'n' their kid's life. Everyone f's up, even da big hounds. Jus' gotta try 'n' learn as ya go, as we all be human, right?

I keep hearin' 'em echos from da men before me, 'n' ah listen. Doesn't mean ah won't find somethin' else to mess up. Jus' cross 'em t's and dot 'em i's. If we don't follow 'em echos, could lead up to somethin' bad happenin' to us.

Ah pretty careful with what ah say 'n' do, most of their mistakes involved offenin' some big daddy. So, ah keep mah distance, 'n' hope I don't get swallowed whole, ya hear?

Redis shrugs, sticking his hands into his pockets of the brown dirty jacket he wears.

Louie's eye squint tight and his head cocks to one side as he struggles to understand Red's accent. It sounded to him like the man had a mouth full of food or something in that direction. In the end he just gave up and nodded along to what he was saying.

I can say, I do spend a lot of my time wandering these streets, listening to what everyone is saying. Eaves dropping some call it. I call it a "learning experience".

I've learnt lots from everything I've seen and heard. How to conduct myself in public. How to dress, the latest news, who the important people are. But yes, the biggest thing would be how to speak to others, how to respect others but not kiss their ass too much.

And more recently. Derek is a large man, who can effect sound.

Louie chuckled and the walked away.
