A new way of doing things? Started by: Miss_Niki on Nov 27, '18 21:09

She was baffled, she was confused, and she didn't quite know what to think. Her whole life, she had been taught to fight wars with guns. Now, she was being asked to fight a war with words, shouted in the street, and against the same city, just a different district. How would words hurt. The old adage says Sticks and Stones may break my Bones, but Words will never hurt me. If that was true, then, they are just shouting at each other in the streets?

She gathered her family journals, and poured through them for 2 days and 2 nights. She read EVERY LAST WORD,  still nothing.. nothing at all about street wars involving words. It's such a novel idea and exciting times! To think, no more bloodshed in the streets! People can live to be a ripe old again, without worrying about dying, or losing their loved ones, their families.

Is this real life, or just fantasy?? She giggled, she never had known peacetime, there was always someone dying at the hand of another. No one died of natural causes, you know, like typhoid or the influenza. Everyone she had ever known had done from a bullet, whether it was an accidental, or by the hand of an unfriendly. It was just life.

She was excited to see what the future brought, new possibilities of having children, growing old with the man of her dreams.

"So if you meet that man of your dreams, how do you expect that to go?"

Kid nodded at Ms. Niki after she turned to notice him.

"Do you expect to get roses everyday? Hear sweet words softly being whispered into year ear? Grow old in harmony with each other and those you find yourself surrounded with? Or... or would the tales you have read in journals invoke a sentiment of desire? Of adventure? Or just reality perhaps?

Kid opened a beer. He wasn't sure if this was that kind of place. It was obvious prohibition was still in effect though, but since we were apparently trying new things, there was no reason for him not to open a beer. The cap fell on the ground.

"I guess it depends which journals you read whether there were wars being waged with words or not. Especially when heated - my favorites, just like potatoes - dialogue shouldn't be seen as conflict, but rather as the essence of what we are. Participation in open debate gives an insight into what we collectively stand for. Ideally debate bridges gaps rather than divides, but, again dependent on the journals you read, discussion could lead to wars."

"However there also will be people that will be able to tell tales of how no words were ever had, but still war and death brutally tore apart the status quo. Whether debating or not, conflict will always manifest at some point. Dialogue however has my preference. It allows to progress before it all comes to and end."

Kid raises his beer to Ms. Niki.

"And just maybe, if we are lucky to find a partner, grow old and have descendants. Just maybe they can share the tales of their parents having made progress, instead of having settled for receiving flowers, sweet words that all was okay and left an unchanged world to their children."
