A Brave Son: Part I Started by: Charlie__Pavanno on Nov 29, '18 09:43

Charlie Pavanno sat in his office at Midas HQ, he had been finishing up some paperwork that needed doing. He was still worried about the letter that he had received, Joseph Pavanno. He never knew the name around and could only think that it might be an imposter of some kind, only he had reached out to some contacts in London, wanting to know the true shit that happened. It was not a good feeling for him; learning that his mentor and father figure had died in prison due to a heart attack.

It had broken his heart and all he did was let it get to him, he knew that he could book a flight and be in London within the next twenty-four hours, but it was not about that. Their business, the life, well, it was different back home. It was different everywhere, where the code of honor and silence are still held high in the society of the mob, the English mob was very different from the American-Italian mob.

"Jimmy Pavanno, Godfather of Hendon and Manchester. Has a nice ring to it and yet, he was not celebrated like the truly honorable man he was. Where Dons would attack without cause, Jimmy found a cause and knew what it meant for his bottom line. He needed to save it and thus, he would. A war against every other gang out there was headed by Jimmy Pavanno and his never-ending group of associates."

Charlie remembered the Battle of Manchester as some had called it, yet, he was there and knew that it could be hardly called a battle. It was a peaceful battle that ended with the surrender of Timmy McVitie, former Boss of the McVitie gang that had ruled the rural areas of Manchester. From that moment, no one defied the Pavanno Family again.

"Oh Uncle Jimmy, you were revered and awed by many people. Yet, a heart attack is how you decide to go? You once told me, we decide when we die and no one else, we decide, how we die. There were two options and they were the same answer for both, you could either die honorable or a craven."

Charlie sighed, taking a swig of whiskey that rested on a worn wooden coaster that he was clearly thinking of throwing in his ever-growing rage of not being there for his father figure. Someone who had been there for him and he could not be there for, it was more than a gunshot to the chest or even a dagger, it was as if someone had reached inside and extracted it themselves. They might as well have because he not could sit here and allow this to happen. He had to be there and he would be.

His thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door as he looked up and noticed Sonny, his eyes had softened, even brightening once he laid eyes on the DiCaprio Heir. He could not help but allow a small smile to brighten his face up, the boy just had that air about him, he made everything a bit better when Charlie was in these kinds of moods.

"Sonny, what have I told you about walking around unsupervised?"

Sonny tilted his head with a smirk as his eyes held a small amount of mischief and his head being held high, as he put a finger on his chin, tapping it lightly, almost as if trying to drum up a thought. He then shook his head and spoke with an overly innocent tone.

"Nothing Charlie, I was just looking for you is all, some of the guys said I could find you here. I wanted to speak with you about something."

Charlie brightened, as he and his adopted mentee had barely spoken of anything since he had joined the organization with little thinking on how it could affect his daily life, although, with the doubting thoughts on his mind, Charlie knew that there were benefits to  joining the life that not many would be smart to take advantage of. Only he knew that Sonny was not a regular person and would be smart in how he approached the life.

"Sure kid, take a seat and before you ask, no. You are not having the whiskey I just bought."

Sonny grumbled before taking a seat opposite Charlie, but it was then that he felt the weight of about ten men on his shoulders, for the first time ever, he was not talking with Charlie Pavanno or even Mr. Pavanno, the man who saved him. He was talking with Charlie Pavanno, the man who was Advisor to Joe Adonis, owner of many casinos, and someone high up in the world that he was keen to join. He was gripped with a sudden fear, wondering if this was how all the associates felt around him.

"Uh, I just wanted to ask about the upcoming trip to England that'll you be taking. Will I be going?"

It was unfortunate that Sonny had talked about the trip when he was drinking his whiskey, as he chokes a little and the burning sensation seemed to have double as he choked, before he coughed violently and looked to Sonny with an arched eyebrow, a smile twitching up at his lips as he looked down at the kid.

"Huh, it seems that I need to be closing my door from now, what do you mean? I haven't even packed or made a decision and somehow you believe that I'm going to England already, where did you get that idea?"

Sonny let out a small chuckle, that was a little squeaky as the boy was obviously going through the stages of becoming a man, as the old saying went. He looked into Charlie's eyes before speaking out in a sincere voice that would tell Charlie the truth of how this was not a joke to him.

"Well I can tell, you had the same look about you when you spoke with Isabella in the East Cat Cellar. It was determination, you didn't want to let me go to Sicily alone and you will not, so you organized for yourself to go as well. Now, this, England is your home and I guarantee that much has changed in four years. Go home and see your other family Charlie, it seems like they'll need you."
