The Booze, Always The Booze Started by: Charlie__Pavanno on Dec 08, '18 17:57

Charlie sat down in a booth, his eyes relaxed and his signature leather jacket adorning his athletic frame. He was watching the High-Rollers come in and try their hand, it was clear, they were nothing but a bunch of losers, but they were losers who made him money. He was just about to collect his cut that he was too share with Nikita, Itachi and Viscorio. Until he noticed a courier running into the casino, calling for him like he had witnessed a murder of some kind.

Immediately his guys had sprung into action, bringing him towards Charlie and calming him down, knowing that it was nothing good. He looked out of it, his eyes wild and his hair a mess, his face drenched in sweat, this man had no business being here and yet, people knew who he was and what he did for a living. They would not dare question him, and definitely not in a place where he held power.

"Mr. Pavanno, I am sorry for interrupting you in a place of work. I've just come from Detroit, I drove all day, our shipment of booze is missing. None of the workers know where it went."

Charlie sighed, knowing that people would become ambitious with trying to fuck him over and this was going to be one of those days. He looked to Mortimer, motioning for him to contain the crowd. He knew that whoever took it would try and underestimate him, this was the start. He knew that he would need some muscle and decided that he would list one of the people that he had yet to know in Race Street.

"Mortimer, get on the phone, contact Purgatory, ask for Yvette and see if she can get down here."

Mortimer nodded, going to do the things that Charlie wanted him to, but he could not help but suppress a shiver at the thought of Yvette and Charlie Pavanno working together, it would be nothing good...

The scream that split the air did nothing to improve Yvette's mood. So with a sad sounding sigh and gentle voice, asked the man tied to the chair again "Mr Cadder how long did you think you were going to get away with it ?" The man began to whimper and was about to answer, when Yvette held up her finger and smiled kindly "Now think carefully before answering you know it upsets me to have to leave you with James and Donald. They are very dedicated to their work" Mr Cadder's bruised faced, missing teeth and broken rib were the most recent reminders of James and Donald's work. Once again Mr Cadder opened his mouth but all that left his lips was a whimper and promise to be better.

Folding her arms and heaving a theatrical heavy sigh, circled the broken man tied to the chair and rested a hand on his shoulder. "I believe we" The phone began to ring interrupting Yvette, moving over to the desk she gracefully plucked the phone from its cradle and placed it to her ear then purred down the phone "Hello oh hello Mortimer what a pleasant surprise, what can I do for you?" Listening to Mortimer Yvette absentmindedly raised her free hand in a wave towards Donald and the gun went off. "Miss Yvette are you alright ?" Mortimer sounded a little frantic but just made Yvette smile "Yes I am fine I just had to finish some business and get a message sent. Now you tell Charlie I will be taking the next flight out"

Mortimer knocked on the door, he heard a faint sound of someone telling him to enter and noticed Charlie sitting down at his usual spot at the head. He walked over and noticed that he was managing some income taxes, which would head down to Godfather Mezzo, Mortimer continued watching until Charlie was done and about five minutes later, he was given the undivided attention of his boss.

"Yvette is on her way here Charlie, do you have any idea what might have gone wrong with the shipment?"

Charlie sighed, knowing that it was probably an organized group of assholes that wanted to try play for him for a bigger game, but he was not going to fall to their level and instead, would reach out for help, knowing that Purgatory had different ways to how they did things over at tops, where things were relaxed and cool. Purgatory was a team that people wanted on their side, for more than reason.

"No I do not, friend, all I know is that someone has possibly made off with the shipment, or its gone to a different warehouse. Either way, there is over a million dollars worth of booze in that one truck and I am not going to be losing it, otherwise, my head is going to be found in a river and my body will remain undiscovered..."

Mortimer paled, doubting that things were that gruesome with Race Street, but he remembered the phone call that he just had with Yvette, he could not help but pale more and his eyes darted all over the place, as his hand reached out, gripping the table with ferocity, trying to stay up. He found his balance and took deep breaths, knowing that being nervous in front of his boss would not be a good thing.

"You alright there Morty?"

Charlie and he nodded in response, wanting to be done with this conversation and fearing the arrival of Yvette, should he suggest that his boss get another member of Purgatory to help? It seemed like personalities would clash oddly, but he also knew that his boss, like many others, hid their intentions and thoughts.

He walked out of the members-only section and could only hope that whatever would happen with whoever took the booze, well he just hoped that it didn't end up as front-page news on the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Replacing the receiver gently to its cradle, Yvette turned with a smile "Gentlemen hurry and arrange for this mess to be cleared up. And don't forget to have the hand and heart sent to Mr Swift, our new head of pharmaceuticals, I want to make my opinion on theft nice and clear" The two men nodded and gave instructions to the clean up crew now waiting to begin. Within moments Yvette made a call to William to fill him in on the situation and then arranged a flight to meet the newest leader to Race Street, Mr Charlie Pavanno.

Arriving outside by cab, Yvette stepped out and took a moment to admire the outside of the casino building. The building seemed to shine while the elegant stone steps appeared to call to you to climb and enter though the stunning entrance hall. Glancing around she noticed a VIP area and made her way over, made herself comfortable, ordered a drink and sent one of her men to announce her arrival.

"Charlie, Yvette is here."

He looked up at his friend and personal bodyguard, Bertram, who he nodded to in response and removed his leather jacket, leaving it on the head chair and going out in the Casino to greet his fellow Race Street Ally. He nodded to people that had greeted him with respect, he was still getting used to the role of being a leader, yet business like this, well it called for his role and even though, he disliked using his rank, he could not lie that it was not useful in some situations.

He called for a waiter, informing him to bring a bottle of champagne to their table, informing to bring it to the V.I.P Section. To which the waiter had gotten onto that as if someone had just paid him ten thousand dollars, to which, Charlie being the generous person he was, possibly would. He looked over and saw Yvette sitting down in a Booth, he sighed, smirking a little and nodding to her man that was about to go off, announcing her presence.

"Do my eyes deceive me or is it the infamous Right-Hand of Purgatory herself?"

He placed a hand over his chest, his eyes widening in mock shock, as he knew that Yvette barely attended any Casinos and for her to be here at his was something of a surprise that he could not help but poke fun at.

Yvette had barely sat down before noticing, from the corner of her eye, her man hesitate turn and indicate Charlie was already informed. With a half smirk curling her lips she muttered in a friendly tone to herself "Excellent eyes around here" Re-crossing her legs while ensuring the skirt was smoothed out, looked up again just as Charlie stood before her and could not help but be pleasantly amused by his choice of introduction.

Just as Charlie finished his last word, as if by magic, champagne appeared on the table. Half laughing and fully amused Yvette offered a slender hand to shake. Then with a playfully conspiratorial whisper invited him to join her "Infamous you say, well if that is the case do you dare to join me in drinking your marvellous champagne Mr Pavanno.?" She deliberately left out any mention of the business that brought her here, after all eyes and ears were always everywhere and not necessarily friendly ones.

Report Post Tip

"Yes, there are definitely excellent eyes around here and all friendly too, politicians, city officials, chiefs, and judges. All of them come here to sit in the lap of luxury."

He stated with his usual Casino charismatic flair, he was being the attention of everyone else, making sure that none was brought onto Yvette, not knowing if she handled attention and instead made it a priority to take it upon himself, he took her hand and laid a tender kiss on it, as was his gentleman code. He sat down opposite her.

He took the bottle of champagne, uncorking it, the pop resonating throughout the Casino, causing many of the attendants to look at the booth with raise eyebrows. He poured them both a glass, offering the first one to Yvette, before pouring himself one. He looked around and noticed a few of the Race Street goons, hanging around and enjoying the delights that the Casino had to offer.

"Ya know Yvette, cautiousness works in places that we don't own, but here? Well, I make sure that no unsavory types remain here long, so feel free to discuss what we need to do, but whoever said that business had to become before pleasure? How are business and life going for you?"

He asked with his British drawl, before taking a sip of the champagne, looking at her from over the rim of the glass, awaiting an answer from the Redhead.

Watching as Charlie performed before sitting, Yvette could not help but smirk, he certainly was a typical Philly lad. All the men from Philly seemed to have the same traits, charm and good looks without any hint of modesty and all of which she thoroughly enjoyed. Yvette could not help jumping slightly at the pop of the champagne cork despite knowing it was going to happen, causing her to blush a little at her uncontrolled reaction. Quickly composing herself she hoped Charlie had not noticed, while he was assuring her of the high quality players that visited his establishment, her cheeks colouring. The question of business and life being asked of her further focused her mind away from silly blushes. Relaxing against the booth she picked up her glass, sipped her champagne and mimicked Charlie's eyes over the glass routine and added a cheeky wink before placing it back on the table.

"Business is going extremely well and as for life in general" shrugging her shoulders and smiling impishly "I manage to find the time for fun. How about you? oh and nice accent I imagine the ladies enjoy hearing that lovely drawl"

Taking another sip of her champagne she found she was enjoying the company and the humour that was just bubbling under the surface. Hopefully the whole job would be as easy going as the gentleman sat before her appeared to be, obviously with a dash of unpredictable added in.

Charlie noticed that the uncorking set her off in a way that she became embarrassed and her cheeks reddened, causing him to grin toothily. He waved it off, pretending that he didn't notice it before setting his champagne down, motioning for the pianist to play softly, wanting to at least hear something peaceful as the quietness had an odd effect on him and he did not like it for long. He grinned as he noticed that she had mimicked him oddly, seemingly enjoying the humorous company as she had winked him, causing him to close his eyes with a chuckle, before re-opening as he heard her talk of business.

"Business going well is always good for us, strangely enough, I always seem to enjoy the nice peace that lasts a while, it provides an easy time to enjoy the simple things in life. As for life, well Joe and Ilaria leaving, has placed an impact on some of us, to which others have tried to fill the void, myself being among them, I don't think that can happen. Joe and Ilaria, they had a unique effect on business and we can only hope that some of us have that same effect."

He stated once again in his British drawl that Yvette had soon commented on, causing his cheeks to turn a light tint of red due to embarrassment, but he simply drunk his champagne once more before answering as he watched Yvette await his answer as she also took a sip of her champagne.

"My accent has won me many adoring looks and many companions, some do enjoy it and some enjoy it more than others. It's a gift and a...well gift really."

He replied with a cheeky grin, making sure that his eyes danced with mischief as he arched his eyebrow to the woman opposite him as the humorous air seemingly infected him also.

While Charlie spoke of Joe and Ilaria's leaving she leaned forward resting an elbow on the table and head in hand, the other hand turning the base of the glass. Listening him discuss how he felt they were a hard act to follow she had to agree, those two will and still are greatly missed but their wishes for retirement were honoured. Head still resting in her hand she looked over and saw the hint of sadness change to determination as he spoke about how he would have an affect in the business world, nodding with agreement. Soon though Yvette was laughing again about Charlie's description of his accent being a very welcome gift.

"Well I have no doubt Mr Pavanno of your ability to make it in this world"  Smiling wickedly, lifted her glass as if to toast "And if you have a gift it would certainly be a shame not to make sure it benefits you. Would you not agree"

As they both continued to chat Yvette soaked in the atmosphere of the place and  was enjoying herself more and more. Every now and then her eyes travelled the room occasionally resting on one or two of the tables, before sweeping back to the piano then resting back to her booth. Everything looked and sounded exciting and colourful "I think I need to be careful my little business trip here does not end up turning into an unexpected vacation"

Report Post Tip

"My ability to make it in this world is off the fact that I've learned from the best, it's why you're here, you are one of the best and I am still but a small fish in the deep blue sea."

He grinned toothily, knowing that his way of compliments never failed him, especially in a situation such as this. Although he found himself enjoying the company of the redhead, most likely due to the sense of humor that people often lacked in the Life, it was a breath of fresh air. He listened as she described his gift of sorts, something that had him letting loose a chuckle. His gift as they referred to it was often one of his better traits that drew people to him.

"Well, you are correct in that assessment, why not make sure something benefits this thing of ours? How do you think I got so many city officials and judges? It was not on looks alone, I had to pick my battles, some were harder than others, some were easier, but in the end, they all had a price. My gift of a voice allowed me to seem more different to the common brute of our organization, something that has gotten me ahead in certain situations."

He explained casually, no longer using his drawl as a way to emphasize his point, he knew that she understood already. He picked up his glass of champagne before finishing it off as he allowed himself to relax to the soft playings of the piano, noticing that Yvette was slowly losing herself to it, as she had spoken to herself, but also aloud, allowing him to hear. He did chuckle though, leaning forward with a cheeky grin.

"As I said, how comes Business and Pleasure cannot mix? You find yourself enjoying the place and should stop by more, the business makes us money, but pleasure well pleasure makes it all worthwhile Yvette, I'm surprised you did not know that."

He chuckled lightly before leaning back, listening to the pianist, before he noticed that one of his men were walking towards him, possibly a little bit more slowly than usual as to give him time to finish his rather enjoyable conversation with the redhead.

"As I said, how comes Business and Pleasure cannot mix? You find yourself enjoying the place and should stop by more, the business makes us money, but pleasure well pleasure makes it all worthwhile Yvette, I'm surprised you did not know that."

Charlie's words amused her as she could not agree more, decided to answer while playfully using her well practised velvet voice "Mr Pavanno you indeed make a good point and yes I am certainly aware of.. " There it happened again, the pianist had changed over to a song he had clearly not practised, another messed up note. Yvette quickly pulled herself together continued to smile and finish what she was saying "how the two can on occasion be thought of as the same" she hoped she was not twitching as the new song seemed to becoming more and more of a form of torture to listen to, how nobody was getting him to give up and play something else escaped her. Eventually Yvette decided to try and hold her temper in check by imagining slamming the piano shut on the pianist's fingers and his head into the piano. Clearly she was beginning to feel the need to get on with business before causing any trouble in this lovely establishment, and hopefully only imagined teaching the pianist a lesson in practise makes perfect.

"Bob! You sick bastard, stop with the torture! Otherwise, someone is going to play more elegantly and with much more class."

Charlie grit out, already feeling nervous for his Pianist that was sometimes a bit too much with his musical stylings and did often get on the nerves of many friends, some of whom had less resilience than Yvette, but none the less, remained seated, just like she was. Only he could tell that she was losing the battle and that he was going to be needing a new pianist if things did not stop soon enough. Only then one of his men had greeted them with a blank face and calm smile.

"Terrence, what brings you here? I assume you've found who stole or misplaced my precious cargo?"

He was glad for the change in subject, knowing that Bob was only moments away from an early retirement and clearly trying his best, but in the face of others who did not have as much patience, well, it was clear that he would not be the greatest Pianist in South Philly for all that long. He noticed that Bob had scattered rather quickly, no longer wanting to be in the presence of the redhead and Charlie had to crack a smile, knowing that Purgatory still had what it takes to scare the shit out of people.

"Yes, Charlie. Victor and George Langston, they used to work for Adonis, it seems some people don't find yourself leadership all correct in place of Joe. What should we do?"

He had to laugh because it seemed a team of brothers wanted to restore the glory days of Midas, or they were simply using it to cover their own hidden agendas. Either way, he was going to find out, he was not going to stand here and allow Joe to be used as a platform to reach a better standard for themselves.

"Don't you guys do anything, have the Langston brothers meet me at the Gym, you know which one, it's time to handle business."

He looked to Yvette with an arched eyebrow, before mischief shined in his eyes like a beacon.

"Are you coming, Red? I have a feeling you want to work off some anger."

He stated with a light tone, knowing that the situation was anything but. Only it was how he handled certain situations, he could be jovial on the outside, while truthfully mad on the inside. He was a different kind of person and this was just the beginning.

Yvette must have somehow managed to telepathically convey her displeasure towards the pianist, who she now knew was called Bob. Their eyes met across the room and Bob immediately stopped playing, very slowly closed the piano, carefully slid off his stool while his eyes were still held by her angry gaze and then moved as fast as he could out of sight. She watched Bob scuttle away like a cat tracked a mouse when Charlie's conversation with his guy Terrance filtered through, sweeping away murderous thoughts of Bob.

Fully paying attention to what was being said caused Yvette's interest to rise, she could not believe the level of stupidity some people would stoop to. As Charlie delivered his invitation, Yvette began to rise to her feet and matched his poorly hidden look of mischief "I have always enjoyed assisting in putting people inside the right motorways" Plucking her purse from the table began to move with Charlie "oh do you think you could arrange for a bottle of bubbly to be sent ahead ? Oh George there you are, be a dear and make sure you bring the new pliers"

Report Post Tip

Charlie grinned, looking at Yvette in a new light, knowing that she was not the redhead that was all business, she had to have a side to her that always promised violence. He found himself warming up to it, knowing that he could take some pointers from the right-hand of Purgatory. He noticed that she matched his poorly hidden smirk, he looked to Mortimer, noticing that the man was still pale and seemed to lose his consciousness, but he kept himself up, not wanting to appear weak in front of company.

"Morty, you're in charge until I get back if any more shipments come in, I want you to check who delivered them and from where is that understood?"

Mortimer nodded, knowing that he barely had enough strength to even form a sentence. Just as they were going to walk out, Charlie stopped Yvette, placing a hand delicately on her shoulder, he arched an eyebrow, knowing that he needed to just ask this question.

"I know that these people have betrayed me and such, but why do you have Pliers available whenever?"

He asked, guiding her delicately to the doors and to the car that would take them to the gym that Victor and George were no doubt using at such a time like this, if not, then the bastards may have just gotten away...

Report Post Tip

Charlie's question about the pliers surprised her and with a shocked expression asked her own question "Why would you not have pliers available at all times?" Leaving the question of pliers hanging in the air Yvette continued with Charlie to the waiting car, sliding into the back seat glanced out the window briefly admiring the view. "From what I remember the gym is not far from here. What's your plan of action when we arrive? obviously my men are at your disposal"

Report Post Tip

"Well, I leave that to you people, I am going to be figuring out who coerced or better yet, convinced these people to steal from us and from there, well...steps will be taking and business will be handled."

Charlie grinned coldly, before looking at the Purgatory Gym, he looked back to Yvette with a small smirk, before handing her his knife that he had hidden in his pocket. Knowing that he did not need, as the men who stole from him were going to be talking sooner or later and he hoped for there sake that it was sooner rather than later.

"When they talk, and they will contact me and we can find out who the fuck stole from me."

He nodded to her, soon enough, the redhead had left the car, leaving him to sit in silence, before he motioned for Bertram to drive off as he had other things to find out regarding the missing shipment. He had a sneaking suspicion though that this would only be the beginning of a much bigger problem that he would need to take care of soon enough...
