| So here I am trying hard to forget the old days. The days my father, grandfather, great grandfather, and even farther back in family line then that lived in this world. Granted I wasn't even born when he walked the streets, but I remember his stories. Stories of powerful men, powerful women, Stories of honor, family and loyalty. I was often told about my family's times as leaders, stories of helping out long time friends. People were more active then, people were more interactive with others. Leaders would be shot without a second thought for whatever reason. Regular Mafioso's killed by their dons for breaking the smallest rules. Not demoted within the crew, or have to lose their guns. My one of my ancestors was around when the most psychopathic rouges stalked the streets staying submerged and killing till he was finally brought down. He was rouge on a mission to try and change our world for the better. So far I have not seen a man or woman emerge and try to change the status quo in a long time. I am not saying we need a rouge, I am saying I miss the old days; I want a chance to prove myself in times like that. Do you?? | |

Yes i very much aggree! And if i ever get to CL which i hope i do, i to will not allow any members to set out of place, i will have rules on respect on the streets and talking to fellow mafiaosi if they disrespect the slightest bang they are dead whetehr they are boss or gangster member or RHM they are gone. |

Be careful here. There is no doubt that some of the standards our society upholds have slipped over the years. Maybe there is a little less honour doing the rounds, there is no question that there is far less emphasis on respect, honour, and our ability to rely on our family to support us has definitely slipped. However, the old days were not all that great. We have a tendency to look back at them through rose tinted lenses. I remember Ganelon (and countless others) warring people just to entertain himself. I remember the UN defrauding, stealing, lying, cheating and swindling their way into and out of any situation, you can imagine. I remember the cult of personality over substance, I remember the rogues popping up with almost every new auth, while they were considered easy prey. I remember the undergrounds tearing at the foundations of our society. There is more, so much more. They were heady days indeed, and without question, some of the most fun that my bloodline has ever had. You talk of these days, as though they were truly built upon this foundation of honour, they really were not. Yes, it was more prevalent then, perhaps the values were instilled a little more strongly in the newcomers, and I am certain that there was more lip service paid to it. Nevertheless, when you actually look at some, nay, most, of the larger events of the time there is little honour to be found in the root causes for most of them. Make the most of what we have now; it is not so bad really. At the risk of sounding like someone I truly despise and saying "rank up and do something about it" - you can have an impact without being a CL. Lead by example, live your life as though these were the days you are talking about, or at least your impression of them. Maybe you will inspire someone to follow suit. |

Cathy Parks is sat at a nearby cafe as she finished her sandwich and drains the last few mouthfuls of her coffee. She drops a sawbuck on the table and her eyes meet that of the owner who smiles graciously. Putting her fez back on she walks down the Streets over hearing the conversation turn to the old days. "One of my distant relatives Poppy, lived back in the old days. She was mostly known for her Street Presence and motor-mouth that would get her into trouble. I can also say confidently that she had never fired a gun in her entire life and even when she stepped into the role of a Leader herself, had not a single kill to her name. "Those days she often remembered to me were fun purely because she was carefree. She really did not give a fuck what people thought of her or what happened to her. She would take on Leaders in the Streets and not even stop to think she could be killed. She had a very narrow view of the life, one in which death was a ruse and nothing to fear. "From all of her stories, one thing was prevalent. The sheer number of people who resided in the 6 cities was astronomical. There was a high mortality rate but an even higher birth rate in those days. In my eyes, that is partly why the Streets were packed full of personalities who entertained and inspired and educated. "Then my bloodline dipped out of the life altogether for many years and reappeared with my grandmother Laura Hunt and my mother. Because of the time away, this world seemed so fresh, so full of opportunity again. And I would not hesitate to say that though the experience my more recent relatives had (including myself in that), I could confidently say was more fun than that of years ago. "There are many reasons for me saying this. Probably the most prominent one is because I and my mother before me, as well as my uncle were involved in the life on an entirely different level to that of our predecessors. As I mentioned, Poppy never once fired a gun. She had no concept of politics or grand designs or alliances and ties. She simply loved to talk and engage in cheeky shenanigans. "Perhaps had I existed back all those years ago, I would have found that time better than the way I live now. But obviously this is an impossibility. Here the way we shoot guns, the way we become better skilled, the people even are very different. The two in my opinion are not comparable and I wouldn't want to compare. "I have my recent memories and many of them are very good ones. And as long as I continue to enjoy this life and the people I work with, I will continue to be a part of it." Cathy Parks looks up, some heavy clouds are overhead. She deliberates over weather she should catch a flight out of town, but there's still some business to attend to. Tipping her fez, she gets in a car which then speeds away. |

So often we fall into the trap of believing what we're told. Sadly, the view that honour, respect and excitement were rife amongst the generations of the past is wholly inaccurate. I believe Anthony_Scotto made reference to the lip service that was given to these things and for the most part that is all it was. The great leaders of the past were as ruthless as any in our modern climate, perhaps even more so. People died to sate the bloodlust and to provide enjoyment for others. We lived in an age very recently of entire exterminations of families, every member, from Gangster to Consigliere marked for death. Those days are dead and gone, were they truly better? People are protected if they choose to wear tags and marks distinguishing them from the common thug, even if their former protectorate has been killed. Also, to go back even further to the days of an old world, people are forgetting the volume of people there. It was possible to blend into a crowd, even if you had 200+ deaths on your conscience and be thought a saint, which many were. Just because Joe Don of New York comes out and tells you he is giving everyone a fair chance, doesn't mean he is. We really need to realise that those weren't more honourable times. Oh and before I forget, since when should the punishment for every minor infraction be death? I think again you've been misled by the propaganda. Ever single leader, if they are honest, will tell you that they let someone off who broke a rule, if they claim otherwise they are lying. We have leaders at the moment, as well as those of the recent past, who weren't involved behind the scenes and didn't see what really went on behind closed doors. This led to us kidding ourselves into thinking the streets held the truth instead of an opinion. Hitters didn't die for every naughty shot they took; most didn't even receive a demotion or lose their gun. I'm glad that we've stopped shedding blood over trivial rules. The fact that people believe they can reserve the right to shoot someone who asks if they perform a crackdown or ask for drug prices, is frankly ridiculous. Do you not think we would have all been busted by now if bodies littered our streets this regularly? Since when couldn't money solve problems? After all, we're just trying to make a living; we aren't supposed to be murderers. |

| I am sorry, but I disagree. A leader is someone who brings you into his family, gives you all you need lets you enjoy a good life. He sets down a few simple rules, if you can't afford him the respect to follow his rules, what good are you to his family?? | |
