| Add another roll for info | Started by: AbbieHoffman on Nov 19, '10 18:52 |

So, I've had this idea for a while and after talking with a few people about it, I decided to post it up here for the public to view. It's very common knowledge that there are a lot of people who choose info answers these days, as it is a vastly useful tool to have. There are of course the downfalls such as even more training required than D answers, but the outcome in the end is far worth the time and effort, so I'm told.
I propose that a coding switch happens for those who choose info in the future(or if at ALL possible/plausible,) for those of us who already have them, to initiate a roll in certain scenarios that checks your info skill when unmasking a potential threat against yourself. (PP/BG shots/kills). |

So just to be clear - you are asking about the following scenario:
JoeBillyBob pickpockets you and stealths. He has juuuust enough stealth skill that he pulled it off by 1 or 2 points and remained stealthy.
New way.
JoeBillyBob pickpockets you is about to stealth. It sees that you have 4 points above average for info - so in the above cause, your info overrules his stelath and he doenst pull of the stealth.
Should it apply to just your natural start up answer stealth? Or also incorporate your temp stealth (Jail, Posting/Threading) ? |

Yes, the new was is what I'm proposing. This way it still gives them a chance to stealth it, if their stealth is high enough, but gives those on info a fair chance at revealing the attacker as well.
That last bit is a good question, and I think it'll definitely go to debate with some people; on one hand, those who don't start off on info answers still get the perk of reveal with work in the streets and businesses, but on the other hand, it would also become massively harder for those on stealth if people could just post enough to see attacks upon them. Though, if it were written in a good way, the code could *probably* just change something simple enough to make it have to be a decent amount of posting for that part of the perk to work. |

Ah, I think I may have misread the post, or you may have mistyped it. Either which way, my answer still stays the same. I think if this new way gets implemented, so long as the perk actually takes work to obtain if you don't start on info, it should even out. |

I think this is a fairly solid idea. Does seem a bit strange that a person on full info can still be stealth pp'd by most everyone. |

So, any other suggestions and/or comments on this? |

Does the current system use info at all in determining whether or not you see the attacker? |

The current system does not take into account your info skill when determining if someone stealths you... this is what is up for support if it should be changed to incorporate it or not. |

Just waiting for a few more people to chime in if they think it should be incorporated or not. |

I am in agreement with the majority. I know I have been pp'd without permission several times and I never know who it is. I have fortunately never been attacked but that would also be good to know...especially for those of us who put so much time and effort into our game. At any rate, Im liking the idea of change. |

I think this is a great idea. I know as an avid pickpocketer, it would suck having some people see me more often, but it would make sense. |

Personally I think it devalues Stealth answers. Info answers are already popular and already have a huge advantage. Giving them further ability would be like giving Wack answers extra ability not to wack back or Defence answers more chance to WB an assailant. |

I dont think that adding this would undermine stealth answers. I just think if the current system doesn't take into account a person's info skill when they determine if someone stealths you I think its unfair to someone on info answers. Should it not be included? If someone has stealth skill they should have just that but if it isn't better than someone's info skill why should they still be able to stealth? Seems unfair doesn't it? |

However..., is info not just that, an information skill and not genal awarness? I always though of info as meaning you were well conected. Snitches etc tell you things like TheDean was seen in town, rather than hey dude, some guy just stole your wallet, or that girl tried to shoot you. |

After reading this i've been thinking, do people who use random answers get any benefit atall?
Theres many people that start the game as a newcomer and thus dont know the answers but then get quite high up in the game. Mabye they should get small benefits such as mabye better chances at OC's or Jailbreaking. |
