Grosso stepped out of the office of Isabella Luciano with two photographs in his hand. They had discussed business and the fallen. She had put faith in him to handle the business as he saw fit. And since she had given the business to him due to the people they both knew he was going to work harder then normal, not just for the living but also for honouring the fallen. As he exited the building his regular driver was waiting for him by the car. As he opened the door for him, Grosso took another good look at the pictures. He then took a lighter and destroyed both pictures. No need for evidence laying around. The driver closed the door and got behind the wheel, he then turned his head and asked his boos, “Where to next boss?”. Grosso looked out the window and replied, “Head toward South Philadelphia’s industrial park Frankie.”
As Frankie drove off Grosso’s mind dozed off for a few minutes. During this time he thought about all the events that had happened over the last few weeks. Most recently the passing of the Godfather of South Philadelphia and also his own boss Don William. He had so much respect for both men who had taken him in after he returned to the United States after living in the old country with his father for many years. The job he was about to do he would do in their honour. He owed them at least that much. When he looked out of his window he noticed they where passing the Pier, the business district that used to be theirs. Most of the properties had been burned during the attacks en Grosso knew he and his family would help the new Godfather rebuild. That is why Don Isabella had sent him on the task of making sure the meeting would be stopped. They needed the workers to help rebuild and he needed them to be in the good shape to start. Before Grosso could wonder off with his thoughts even more Frankie turned and said, “We are almost her boss where do you want me to park?” Grosso looked at the man and replied “Head over to Kimball Street and park at the large warehouse, we will enter together.” Frankie did as he was told, took another right and parked the car in front of the warehouse.
When Frankie turned off the car and took the keys from the ignition Grosso opened his door and got of the car. As he stood in front op de warehouse he looked up at the sign that read Kimball Industries. He was at the right place and it was time to get moving. They approached the door which Frankie opened and held open while Grosso entered. As they entered the noticed a woman behind the reception. The woman looked at them and asked them if she could help them with anything. Grosso replied to the woman, “We have a meeting with Mr. Thomas Hauf and Lorenzo Giaboni”. The woman looked at the two man and told them that the men they were looking for where in a meeting and were not to be disturbed. Grosso ignored the woman and opened the door that opened the way towards the factory. He and Frankie entered the factory and saw a group of men standing in front of a small stage. Grosso looked to the right of the stage and saw the two men he was looking for. They walked towards the men who saw them coming and wanted to get on the stage quickly. Frankie walked a little quicker and grabbed both men by the shoulder before they set foot on the steps leading to the stage. A the two men looked at Frankie he spoke, “My boss, Consigliere Grosso wants a word before you make your speech.” Lorenzo Giaboni shook himself loos from Frankie’s grip and looked at the two men who were standing in front of him. He then replied “I will ask you both to leave this building since this is private property and you were not invited.” Grosso chuckled at what the man had to say before he answered the man “I do not think you understand the importance, let me ask again, last time we will be nice about it.” Grosso opened his coat a little bit, just enough to show the gun inside. The two factory workers looked at the gun and looked surprised, they had not expected this to happen. Reluctantly the two gave in and nodded to their guests. Grosso was glad that they accepted without making a big case around it and asked the gentlemen if they could use an office.
Grosso and Frankie followed the two gentlemen into an office around the corner. It was small but since it was away from the workers it would feed its purpose. As Frankie closed the door behind him Grosso looked at the two men, “I need you both to listen carefully. We can not have you two start a Union.” Thomas Hauf tried to object but quickly stopped when he looked at Frankie. “As you know we are busy building businesses in this district. We can not have you two unionising this district.” This time it was Lorenzo who chuckled. “You think this is amusing Mr. Giaboni? Cause for us this is not a laughing matter.” He slid an envelope across the table to Mr. Hauf. “This is our offer. We want to handle this in a nice manner. Frankie here needs a smoke so we will be back in a few minutes to hear the answer.”
Frankie and Grosso reentered the office after Frankie finished smoking. Inside were Mr. Hauf en Mr. Gabioni sitting, Grosso could not read their faces. He took place in the same chair as before. “Have you come to a decision?” It was Mr. Hauf who toke action with a reply, “We have decided we will take you up on your offer. We noticed the stamp on the letter and we don’t want any trouble.”
Frankie and Grosso walked out of Kimball Industries, happy to get back to Isabella Luciano. Frank quickly started the car as Grosso took place next to him. As they crossed the city Frankie turned on the radio. Grosso rolled down the window and looked outside. A job well done, well depending on how truthfully the gentleman at Kimball Industries were. When they arrived at the office of Isabella Grosso told Frankie to stay in the car. “I won’t be long Frankie, keep the engine on.” Grosso excited the car and crossed the street. He entered the building he had left this morning at went to the office of Isabella. As he walked towards the door he tipped his hat to April. She nodded back as Grosso entered the office. Isabella was sitting at her desk reading a letter. She looked up and asked him, “How did it go Grosso?” Grosso replied, “The guys won’t be a problem, otherwise they know trouble will be coming.” |

A short note was penned to the more 'administrative half' of the GavinAndTaraByrne siblings and sent it to Tara by means of a young runner. It read simply:
Things were ever so slowly coming together. |

Louis sat in the Railway Tavern. Paul_Manna served him another whisky when there was a knock at the Employees Only door. Louis looked around and walked over to the door peering through the window edge as he got there. Two gentlemen had come and were standing outside. Louis tapped Kalinic on the shoulder. “Go out there and see what they want.” Louis sat down while Kalinic walked through the door. He heard muted mutterings and Kalinic came back in to the Tavern. “They are looking for union jobs in the railyards Louis. They’ve been turned away from the building sites and are looking to provide their services here.” “Bring them in Kalinic and I’ll sit with them here. You sit down too.” The two gentlemen walked in and sat opposite Louis. “We’ve been chased out of all the building works in the district. We feel it’s an important process that a union represents your railroad workers.” “I dunno guys.” Louis had heard tales of the Knights of Labor from fifty, sixty years before and the Federation of Labor and it didn’t seem to be something he wanted. He leaned over to Kalinic and spoke quietly, “The only thing we need organised around here is the crime.” He sat back round. “Who chased you out of the building trade?” “It was a guy calling himself Grosso.” “Grosso is one of my guys. If he’s asked you to step away, you can take it as read that the decision is applicable to all industrial enterprises in South Philly. The only organisation of workers is done from within the various organisations here. You are of course free to start something but I’m sure the workers here are loyal to what they have now. Feel free visit the tavern again though.” Louis stood and went back to the bar leaving Kalinic to escort both men off the premises. |
