Scrambling names for recent-borns on vision Started by: Tammy on Jan 16, '19 10:12

We probably have all been there..
Say, you get shot in a war when you are in DT. Your kin gets born in on full vision in NY, moves to PH and suicides. Then their brother/sister on vision pops up in CH, flies to LV and retires there.. Etcetera..

I know new players don't have full vision yet, but what if we properly limit vision for the first 24 hours? After all, a newbie on wack can't use his un in the first day either. One way to make that happen could be to scramble the locals..

Say I see this now:

Adriana_Brownd  Dec 27, '18 07:06  Officer  Old City District
Akiko_Fowlkes  Jan 03, '19 13:31  Officer  South Philly

Wouldn't it be more realistic.. (Newbie doesnt know/recognise all these people) to see it like this:

**aaa_**wi*da  Dec 27, '18 07:06  Officer  Old City District
f**_o*w***s* Jan 03, '19 13:31  Officer  South Philly

Just to make it a bit tougher on the vision thing..?

I actually think this could be a very interesting game change tbh. As you pointed out, they don't truly start on full vision. But it is also quite odd for a person who is 'fresh off the boat' to walk around the streets of Seattle and possibly go "Oh there's Coltrane..." or "Oh there's JohnMarston..." when technically in a realistic setting they wouldn't know either of us from any Joe Schmoe on the streets.

The scrambling of names for a certain period of time would certainly help get rid of such tactics during war time. Although to push it to a full 24 hour period might be a bit much. Since you could from an RP perspective have been the kin of a recently fallen member  which means you know some people OR you could have started talking to leadership somewhere to be recruited and you 'learn' about the people in that city from those discussions. Leading you to having better knowledge of who is who.

Especially when we already have the restriction of not even being able to use your gun for a while if you start on full marksmanship, we should maybe have a stricter way of handling vision when you start up a new character. I think that even if this isn't exactly how we go about changing something like this, it's a good first step towards a fully polished idea.

Tammy, I'm not much familiar with vision roll so excuse my ignorance if shown. Does a civilian on full vision have access to the higher ranks?

Maybe block all character stat rolls/questions until 24 hours have passed of character creation. New or old a civilian should be clueless in this world if you look at it from a roleplay scenario. 24 hours go by and you start to get more of a feel for whatever your selection is.

When someone starts off, there is a period of time their vision is nerfed so this exact situation can't happen. That combined with the suicide limit helps prevent restarts to get info in every city while fresh off the boat.

Thanks to all three for replying :)

JohnMarston Good point there, with age the blurry vision should get better.

CreditsForSale Sometimes you do, probably those with very low stealth. You mean one would only do the start-up after 24hours?

Squishy Assuming the killed person was a victim of the war, he can still suicide twice, meaning get born 3 times. With the time
But basically. The fact that you built in that the vision is tapered for age and low rank actually does the trick. And maybe does a better job at it even.. So ignore the suggestion! :)
