It was a lonely night for Morty, he notices a few girls and boys playing in a sandbox in the school yard where he attended as a lad. Walking up, he grabs their attention after slamming a basketball into a hoop near them. The children immediately become excited; running to where Morty was shooting. Turning to the kids with a smile from ear to ear, Morty begins to tell them to calm down a little, today isn't the day for fun in the sun. Today was an important day and Michael knew it. Today he would be telling the story of how fire became known to man. Morty begins to remember how his father told him the day he was sitting on his lap. Admiring his fathers earthly belongings; such as his huge spinning globe or his perfectly polished mahogany desk. "Children of this blessed Schoolyard, please lend me your ears for just a few moments. I have a story that will do two things. Firstly, you will be amazed and secondly, educated. As your elder with the ripe age of 15, I will enlighten you with one of the greatest stories of all time." The children's eyes swell with excitement, their popcorn and snack baggies were firmly at the ready. Looking back and forth to one another they begin to settle. Morty isn't sure how long he will have this small groups attention; Johnny was already trying to shove an M&M up his nose with brute force. Clearing his throat, Morty begins to tell the tale of how fire became an everyday existence. "A long time ago children, there lived two brothers by the name of Brian and Julian. These two were... how should I say... dumb. Brian and Julian knew a lot about hunting however, they had no class when it came to wooing and fine dining as we know today." With the children letting out their immature snickers and giggles, Morty winks as his tale begins to move forward. "One evening, Julian went on a walk to find some fruit to enjoy that night. Upon his walk he noticed a couple of crickets standing next to each other. While Julian leaned in to admire the two's beauty, he was suddenly pushed back with a fearsome spark of fire from the two crickets! Of course this amazed the dumb witted hero, so he scooped the two up and brought them back in his satchel for Brian to investigate." Allowing the moments to sink in to ensure Morty doesn't lose the gold fish attention spanned crowd; He laughs a little on the inside. After asking for what he hopes to not be a booger covered M&M... with a mouth full of chocolate, Michael continues. "That night at the camp site was a very interesting one. While Julian was obsessed with knowing how this fire came to be, Brian was on the prowl to catch more. Obviously Brian had a trick or two up his sleeve for dear old Julian." "Throughout the night, Julian would catch a spark or two and the excitement would flow through his veins like the Nile in Africa. Looking up in the middle of the night, Julian noticed Brian sitting in his leaf and ingrained wooden home, with a huge barreling fire to keep him warm. Now believe me, this didn't sit well with Julian. He had to sleep in a cold, mildly soaked leaf hut. Knowing he had a long night ahead of him, he went and asked his brother to help him make a fire." Noticing his story has the children almost ready to pass out, Morty takes a look around and notices one boy in specific riddled with excitement over the ending... Morty walks over and gets eye level with the child to ensure he knows the effort and poise gets into the little mans thick head. "To his demise, Brian didn't help Julian... Julian had to sleep all night in a drenched hut, not knowing if he would catch a cold or even possibly catch hypothermia! Of course this didn't sit well with Julian, Julian was so mad that he leaned himself up against Brian's hut the next evening, to try and catch a peak at how he starts his fires at night." "The following evening was an ultimate success for the hairy dirt encrusted Neanderthal. While seeing his brother dig out handfuls of crickets and shove them into a bowl made from a carved rock, Julian smiles. The crickets immediately engulf the rock bowl in flames, with Brian following with dry leaves and sticks..." With the wind billowing through his hair, Morty leans down and claps his hand on his newly found friends little bony shoulder. Morty's eyes begin to glisten off the sunlight as he unleashes his ravishing ending, as his father had done to him many moons ago... Julian was so determined to get back at his brother, he stole all his crickets and threw them up into a nearby smoldering volcano! Little did he know, crickets multiply like crazy when put into lava!! The volcano erupted with billions of crickets to supply the whole world with fire. I guess good ole' Julian's plan kinda failed, eh? Laughing with the child, Morty stands up and notices a bright red rubber kickball standing behind him. Walking over, Morty asks the kid to go out for a "long catch". The boy darts off, before Morty can kick the ball, the boy runs straight into a foam goal post for the soccer goals... the kid was knocked clean out. Shrugging his shoulders, Michael looks up to the sky and says one final statement... And this lord, is how man discovered fire. |
