I'm not sure what these people are talking about when they speak of the Mafia, for I am just a mere businessman! They talk of Crew Leaders, auths in cities, princes of cheddar cheese and general criminal activity publicly, like it's an approachable subject! In this times of despair in America, and across the world as a ripple effect of the Wall Street Crash, these people that do talk of criminal activity are well dressed and rich people. Therefore, they grease the right hands with cash and are able to strut about the streets. It is today, gentlemen, that I admit in front of the conveniently blind eye of the police, that I am one of these criminals. Secrecy among my fellow businessmen is paramount of course, the goings on of the world in which I live must not be spoken of lightly, but secrecy appears to have become more of a passing thought than something that plays on every Mafioso's minds. I must also admit though, that secrecy has been playing on my mind. Not the secrecy from the American people to shield the Mafia's very existence, but secrecy of one Mafioso from another. Where, my friends, does secrecy end and honesty begin? We all have friends outside our own respective family and of course it is preached that we should hold secrets from them. Of course we should. There is no debate about that. But then there are secrets within families themselves. Crewleaders keeping secrets from the majority of their members as it is feared that information will leak out. Should the Crewleader him or herself therefore review their recruiting techniques if they have members that they cannot trust? Maybe that is the case. But rank, again, plays a part in who knows what level of secret. Rank is like identification showing exactly how much you can know of a family's secrets. Rank, and the heirachy of a family which should go hand in hand, is the explanation of just how much someone can know about the goings on within the family. This speech is covering a range of topics, as it is possible to see, and so I will pose to you the questions I wish to see answered in a variety of opinions that can be expressed. + Where does secrecy end, and honesty begin? The family? The heirachy of the family? Maybe your friends from other families? + Should a Crewleader be able to trust his or her whole family to keep secrets within the family itself? |

Information within the family should be disseminated on a "need to know" basis. If there is no reason for a particular person to have information, or if the passing of information does not benefit the family in any way, why take the risk that the information will be passed further? It would be nice if a Boss could share information with everyone in the HQ, but that would be foolish. The lowest ranks have no business knowing and many of the higher ranks don't have the common sense to keep their mouths closed. It isn't an issue of poor recruiting practices. The simple fact is that mobsters aren't the smartest people in the world and most of them don't know when to shut the hell up. Then you have the issue of loyalty, which is another big problem. There are many mobsters who are more loyal to friends outside the family than to their Boss. They might share information with that friend, even if not for malicious purposes, and that friend will likely tell someone in his family. They don't see what the big deal is with doing this. In reality, these violaters of Omerta need to be taken out back and shot. |

| Weasel, let's say for a second that I was involved in organized crime, I'm not, legit 100%, but for argument sake, I'd have to say, I agree with you and that you hit the nail on the head. Michael strolls off doing his perfectly legal activities. | |

So TheWeasel, you think that secrets should be able to be told in the family, should they need to be, without having to worry about some new Mafioso spreading the secret to his other family friends? Anyone that the CL cannot trust, for one reason or another, should not be in that family? Therefore meaning the CL isn't in the position to wack the individual for breaking omerta in the first place. |
