Sledge-Hammer took a stroll out onto the street. His sports jacket was looking particularly impressive today and his holstered silver magnum shone in the sun like a new penny. It was a particularly cold, yet sunny day. Odd that. "I'm not here to bore you, bullshit you or serenade you with the usual guff. I'm here to put forward a question that I would love to see answered. Whatever happened to the Mafia Tribune? You see I can't help but notice the wealth of discussion that goes on around here. And everywhere I look the Government has someone that is a designated Federal Helper. What they help with, I don't know exactly, but they are there." Sledge pauses for a moment to pet the head of a small dog that trotted by. "How can all this discussion, debate and above all, contribution from many, lead to the current and long-standing problem of this Goddam society having no paper? It's a statistical anomaly that can probably be put down to one of three things: No one gives a shit about anyone but themselves. No one wants to waste effort doing something that won't improve their stature and reputation in a criminal way. No one wants to take responsibility for providing news to the masses in a way that doesn't involve running into a coffeeshop and grabbing someone you know by the sleeve. I'm sure there are more, but you get my drift. Now don't get me wrong, I'll sleep soundly tonight, Newspaper or not. And they say people without sin shouldn't cast the first stone. Well I contributed to the Gazette when I wasn't writing for the New York Times. It might not make me without sin but it sure as hell is gonna get waved around if anyone gets on my case about being a hypocrite. My own forrays into journalism enjoyed a medium degree of success, depending on how you define the word. But seriously though, can it be that no-one appreciates that the long-standing lack of a newspaper is an absolutely shocking indictment on society in general?" |

Sledge-Hammer, The New York Times was brilliant. I realize we're off course now but discussion will find its way back on topic. I for one found that being able to read TWO quality periodicals was a rarefied treat. I miss both of them. Back on topic now. Lets look at the general malaise that is prevalent among us at the moment. We have many many gifted writers in our community. Perhaps a concerted effort on all of our part to be less apathetic and more productive. |

Howie my good man, You have proved time after time that you have a gift for gab and your loquacious nature cannot be contained. I am SURE the editor of the paper would welcome any articles that you submit, since most likely, that would make you the only current man about town to do so. Good luck. |

My dear doctor! I believe both terms can apply here, however of more importance is that logorrheic is a term that I was not familiar with. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Come to think of it, it occurs to me that most of our population are not English speaking, so many of us are immigrants from the old country. Perhaps if you would take upon yourself to write a small contribution to the paper with language lessons, so many of us would be able to communicate better with the old ladies that fail to understand that we just want to help them cross the street, with the 7-11 owners who fail to understand that all we want to do is help them stop passing around counterfeit cash and of course, not to forget the speakeasy owners who fail to see that all we want is to make sure they carry the BEST wares possible. |

| To tell you the truth, Volatile...I'd rather see Sledge-Hammer print more of his magic. This old brain of mine would just make filler material and bore the masses into numbed complacency. Perhaps you are onto something though; if I took it upon myself to be more active others would follow suit. There are clearly many other people more gifted than myself who could take fifteen minutes of their time and knock it out of the park. | |

Well, There we have it. We have three active and verbose characters who have very different ways of looking at the happenings in the local communities. Why don't you all pick out a topic, short or long and dash it off to Ole Reily! Goodness Gracious! I even might be inspired to write something! |

Incidentally Faustroll, logorrheic would be an adjective with logorrhea being the noun form of the word. Before you attempt to put someone down for being one of a small minority who puts forth a great deal of effort, perhaps you should revise your grammar skills in an effort to not look overly dim. |

Nick_Toreno!! I'm so happy you stopped by to chat with us. I see you are a well educated man of words and knowledge of the language. Perhaps we can expect some kind of contribution from you towards the daily (weekly?) (monthly) paper? It would be a delight to get something from the other side of the Cheddar Curtain! Your family would, I am sure, have many anecdotes and ideas, not to mention inside scoops on all that happens in MrLand. |

Without a shadow of a doubt Volatile, my family have contributed to the Tribune for a great deal of time, as soon as I know Riley's back around on a more regular basis, I'll write him an article per day if that's what it will take to get the tribune to where it was back in the days of Shuki. Nick! I took the time to look up Reilly and I am delighted to say that there has been a Riley Sighting in the last day! Last Active: Jan 29, '08 19:09 I think we should all send him some fan mail telling him how excited we are to see him back and that we CANT WAIT to see what the tribune has to say! |

I didn't realize I put ANYONE down, Nick. Doesn't look like it to me. I did state that I wished a certain member of this community would treat us to more of their craft. If in doing so I appear "overly dim", so be it. If I have overlooked Howard's contributions to the streets then that is my prerogative. One mans treasure blah blah blah. |

In danger of keeping this discussion going.... Thank you for your kind words Doctor_Faustroll. They mean a lot. It isn't like people were lining up to wring my hand when I published the paper, but a few conscientious souls did appreciate work put in on behalf of a community back at the time and were most generous in their praises. I suspect a relative of yours may have been one and it meant a lot then, as now. |
