A Thanksgiving Story, Kinda. Started by: SINGERROURKE on Nov 24, '10 22:51

SINGERROURKE stared at the mirror. Something was wrong. He felt like something was missing. He went and sat at the edge of his bed. His window gave him the most beautiful sight of the frozen water. Street lights made the falling snow look like tiny fireballs, which SINGERROURKE thought was awesome. People had sat in the blistering cold looking out at the lake talking with each other. People down the street were walking around speaking bonfires made the streets gleam. A man stood out of all those people though. He wore a white shirt with a cap that was quite dirty covering his messy brown hair. He was all alone. SINGERROURKE stared at this man for the longest time. The man stood there under the light pole waiting for someone. He had no coat to cover his body. He sat by as people pickpocketed him and made jokes at him. He never spoke against them. SINGERROURKE grabbed his coat and ran down stairs. Coming across the street the man watched as SINGERROURKE walked towards him.

So What are you doing here? You have no coat and to me it looks like you are pretty cold. The man didnt respond. He just looked at SINGERROURKES face and stared. He put his hands in his pockets and continued to watch SINGERROURKE. Feeling uncomfortable SINGERROURKE took off his coat and handed it to the man and smiled as he put it on.

I dont know if you are a mute or what your problem is. I am not like most people who dont care though i can help you. Are you hungry or are you waiting for someone or what? SINGERROURKE waited for the man. Still nothing. This was getting old. SINGERROURKE had to be at Ragnaroks house for thanksgiving and this man was taking up all his time. SINGERROURKE was waiting for something but it didnt come so he started to walk away. Before he got to his hotel room the man said something.

I am hungry. Thats all it took. Was for the man to just open up to SINGERROURKE.  They opened the doors to the resturaunt SINGERROURKE ordered an entire feast.

You know something i havent had someone give me a coat in the winter. I havent had someone offer to help me find food. Especially in this economy. I suffer a deep pain of feeling useless you know? I mean i know you probably dont know what im talking about. You got it made, you are made. At least thats what i hear. You are one of the most well respected people and you come to take care of someone who dosent have a penny. Why is that?

SINGERROURKE looked at the man and started to feel sadness for the man. He couldnt tell the guy the truth. SINGERROURKE couldnt tell the man that every night he goes to bed he thinks about dying. He couldnt tell the man that he felt like he was useless that nothing in life mattered to him anymore. He couldnt open up to the man so he smiled at him.

Old man, I just happened to see you in the street. You had nobody. Just like me. Just like me old man.

The two sat and enjoyed each others company for hours. Talking about their lives and about what their dreams were. They talked about all of their friends they had ever had. The old man told SINGERROURKE about how his son went off to go join the military and how his wife died from a disease. The old man walked into the bathroom crying. SINGERROURKE couldnt help but feel sorry for the old man. He looked down at his watch. He was late for thanksgiving dinner at Ragnaroks. The old man was taking some time in there. SINGERROURKE paid the bill and had to tell the man he was going to leave. As he walked in to the bathroom he saw the old man lying face down in the middle of the bathroom. The man was dead.

Everyone passes on. At the same time everyone has something to be thankful for. Whether its the new car you got from your Godfather or that breath of fresh air. Whatever it is. The best thing out of everything to be thankful for is the one who makes someone thankful. Even as that old man walked into that bathroom sad he was happy. Someone finally took the time to listen to him. You can be that someone. You can listen to someone. SINGERROURKE walks into the Godfathers house with a pie in his hands. It was time for a joyous occasion and SINGERROURKE couldnt be more thankful. SINGERROURKE puts his hands in the air and shouts it out,

Hey Happy thanksgiving everyone!

Anoxia takes the time to listern to SINGERROURKES story. As he originated from England he had only very recently come to America, after being nervous of boats since the Titanic sank. Anoxia tips his hat in SINGERROURKES direction.

"Before now, i have never understood the meaning of thanksgiving, i always thought it was another excuse for a holiday as you see everyone smoking tabacco and drinking beer. This story has changed my opinion. Thanksgiving is a time to be greatful for what you have got, and help out those less fortunate than you. I look past my time here, and i am thankful for the hard working people of Detroit, who took me in, gave me a bed, and allowed me to become the man who i am today."

A single tear falls down Anoxia's face as he remember all he left behind in England "I just wish my family back at home had one of those telephones so i could talk to them."
