| Drugs for Alcohol | Started by: donmorrison on Nov 26, '10 07:28 |

I know this might not be too popular but I was just thinking that the mafia doesn't deal in drugs. So maybe for the time period you could replace drugs either with different grades of alcohol or maybe just different sizes of it. Let me know what you think people. |

Im for it it just be cosmetic change wouldn't it? Change DFPs to idk a bootlegging operation? And each of the drugs just changed to better grades of beer, scotch, bourbon alcohol. |

I suggested something similar myself a while back, but didn't think of just a straight swap of drugs for alcohol. Simple yet elegant, I love it. |

I like the idea but maybe we can take out some drugs and replace it with alcohol. So that way we can keep some of the drugs like Opium...The drug ban in the mafia didn't happen until later than the 30's if I'm not mistaken. But yes I like it, if we add the alcohole instead of taking away all the drugs. |

I think its a terrible idea. This game takes place from the late 20's to the early 40's. With the ratification of the 21st Amendment which repealed Prohibition in 1933, thus making "bootlegging" not profitable as it once was. So I believe the drugs are historically accurate for the time period of the game. |

Drugs at the level we are currently having them in this game weren't around, there are at the moment I would imagine hundreds of thousands just going to the mafia. I still think Bootlegging would be more realistic then drug dealing. |

I agree with Death-knight, whilst some Mafia families did deal in drugs, it was no where near as prolific as MR suggests. The game would seem to be firmly based during Prohibition due to the fact that grain alcohol is one of the drugs currently available in the drugs Market. Remember, drugs where available to buy over the counter at chemists until the early 1900s and many every day items contained opiates and cocaine. |

Plain and simple, I agree with the idea. I have seen many other mafia games using alcohol instead of drugs and I have to say it makes more sense to bootleg some rum than to cook up some opium in your drug front, especially at the era this game is set in. |

Drug dealing in the 30's was frowned upon. Look at this way. All of us break the rules. This is where THE Godfather, comes in to deal with us(TylerDurden) We're all a bunch of rule-breakers, he trys to settle it, dies, problem solved, no big game change needed. |

I like it. :o) If this idea and the DFP Top 10 were coupled together, would be much more realistic. While drug dealing would be profitable - it would spur much greater police response. Which is the reason why the mob frowned on drugs - drug sentences were heavy and soldiers were more tempted to rat out their friends to evade potential life sentences. |
