Bruce watches as another young man is dragged away, hurling abuse left, right and centre. After taking a moment to pray for his soul he begins to speak Recently I've been hearing a lot of talk about the ability to lead and the skills required for leadership. There has been suggestions that some of the current leadership seem to lack these abilities and are not worthy of running a family. Personally I think a good crewleader should possess good interpersonal relationships with each member of his family. Of course they need to able to physically lead their families and control their members. They have to be able to deal with haters, Anita received a lot of abuse and there were many calls for her to stand down but she kept going all the way to the end. The final requirement is of course good oratory skills and a certain amount of street presence. People criticise the leaders but out of all of these what is lacking? Admittedly my street presence has been rather lax of late but this is something I hope to fix. Apart from that I think that the leaders seem to fare well in all of these areas, but that's just my opinion. People's memories are short and often it is the case that many leaders' names are simply lost to the march of time. It is a constant in our world that leaders will rise and fall; this is simply how it goes. But what does it take to be remembered? Looking through my forefathers diaries there are only a few names that really stand out. There are names which everyone knows and even if they dislike the particular bloodline they still respect them. Many times when someone is remembered it is because they killed a lot of people or were hated by the majority of Mafioso's at that time. However there are some that are remembered for the good they did in the community and the effective way they took care of business. Of course everyone has their own opinions of these people so there will never be a general consensus on what is a "good" crew leader. But what have these Crew leaders done to warrant such respect and admiration. In your opinion what does it take to become a great leader and what should the current leaders be doing to attain this legendary status? |

Walking down the street Avenge hears a very interesting topic that BruceCarrol has brought up. If I may infer I agree with you. The people remembered are generally the one's killed or hated. But I remember plenty of Crew Leader's who never were the killing type and one of those type is among us today. I agree that Crew Leader's will rise and fall, no matter how powerful. Really though I think to attain the legendary status the only way really is to be able to lead a family through numerous wars and come out on top. Now I'm not saying Bruce go after Johnny or nothing. I'm saying when wars come up those who lead their family through the fire and flames will be remembered. Also many crew leaders attain the legendary status through being around for so long. Personally to me Ms. Parks has attained the legendary status. She has lead a fine family, given chances to those who deserve them. She has brought excitement to this world through Saturday Fight Nights. Ponder's who fights tonight... Anyway it seems as if you must bring a lot to this world and be a good killer. Also be very close to your crew. However Crew Leader's are only really close to the one's who work their butts off. I've seen many goomba's and earner's that complain "Why aren't I ranking?" and "Why can't I be doing this?". Well you have to prove yourself and make the effort to get to know your Crew Leader. So becoming a great Crew Leader isn't just about what the CL does, but the whole family together as one. That is how a family should be at least. |

Crewleaders should possess all those things you mentioned as a given. If their ability to excel in the areas of interpersonal communication are even questionable, I don't understand how they could even be considered as an auth candidate outside of desperate times calling for desperate measures. You bring up a good point in how easy it is to forget about a crewleader over time. This fact alone should be adequate motivation for a CL do something more than commit crimes and drink coffee. However, many times people will confuse a great leader with a remembered leader. -mrevilman was a remembered leader, but was he a great leader? I would say no. He was practically invisible from the streets and often killed for what seemed to be arbitrary reasons. To me, that makes for a poor leader. On the other hand, I remember Oberon's contributions to the streets with his weekly Sunday chat. It was almost like Roosevelt's fireside chats, which brought him closer to the people and gave everyone a perspective of current events from higher up. A similar example is the Saturday Night Fights, an original idea which brings something more to this world. No leader should want to be forgotten in two weeks. That would be an embarrassment. I know many mobsters who would turn down the opportunity to lead their own family unless they felt they had the time and motivation necessary to make a memorable effort. This should be every leader's philosophy. If they are in bold just to look good, or just to stand out from the ordinary mobster, they should be used as target practice. |

Antonio had just finished his cigarette when he overheard the ongoing conversation I think that CL's are remembered on two different levels, the ones they lead will always remember them as the person who helped them in this world, or the person who screwed up and made them fend for their own lives. But I agree with what you fellas are saying, most of them are remembered by either being a menace everyone hates, or someone that screwed up and or started a war. Antonio turns down the street and keeps walking in stride, fishing in his pocket for another cigarette |
