We could use some input on mobile browser based games Started by: Squishy on Apr 01, '19 21:16

So we are starting the process of outsourcing of getting the site redone to flow better on all devices.  For those of you who play games or use sites (not apps) often on their mobile, are there any out there that struck you as well put together for displaying similar content like MR?  Any menus that struck you as 'damn, this is how MR should go about it'? Basically, any ui/ux things that strike you as well done, send over. We are looking for your input and some example URLs or screen shots that we can look at to see where we can improve our stuff.

Thanks!

Hmm, that's a difficult question. There are plenty of slick UX things for mobile around, but I assume you wouldn't want to deviate too much from the style that is home to MR. The style doesn't work that well for mobile, obviously, but a first question is whether you want full response based on your viewport or whether you keep a desktop vaiant as is, while offering an improved experience for mobile devices.

A first suggestion that comes to mind, and don't shoot me for it, is ... Windows Phone OS :)

The adaption of Windows Phone was horrible. The OS, with it's downsides was fairly solid most of the time. The tiles, vertical and horizontal gestures were intuitive and responded well. The minimalistic style would allow for a slick performance and it would allow for custom color themes or just the grey world as we know it. Menus, switches, locals, forums, option lists and the likes would all work smooth enough with the content MR has.

The visual experience is most likely not what brings people to this game. So if a bigger audience is using mobile devices, ease of use while exploring the content options of the game is what should take focus. Most of the content MR has could fit fairly well in the UI of Windows Phone OS. It would allow to stay fairly close to the hierarchy and feel that MR has, but optimized for use on smaller screens and well... a bit more modern.

I wouldn't recommend the depth animations though :) At most flat transitions and some fades, but that's not even a must.

XavierRudd has the best answer for this.

But let me throw my 2cents; personally, I used MR on mobile once and found the buttons and toolbars too small. I had to do multiple swipes and scrolls. Nothing too hassling though because I believe MR works best for desktop. Especially if you're heavy into RP and exploration.

As for other browser based games with excellent ui on mobile, here are some I've discovered in the past:

> Torn

> Mythic Reign

> Drakor
