A Furry Easter Tale Started by: Strider on Apr 21, '19 00:13

Strider wore his best furry suit for Easter, a gray rabbit costume and he walked into the street carrying a basket full of colored chocolate eggs @Joyri had made for him. He saw a group of young kids playing in the nearby park and hopped over to them.

"Hi kids, would you like some chocolate" he asked them and they quickly gathered around him eager for some sweet treats. Their parents looked up for a moment and then went back to reading the morning paper, not thinking twice about a grown man in a costume handing out candy to their kids.

Strider looked at the young faces smiling at him and he said "How about I tell you guys a story about this costume I'm wearing and these colorful eggs?" The prospect of a good story and yummy chocolate got the kids excited and he began his tale. Unbeknown to him, @Cecily was hiding behind a nearby tree listening to him, for she enjoyed a good story on Easter Sunday.

There was a treacherous jungle to the east of Jerusalem where snakes were found aplenty. One by one ,the smaller animals in the jungle fell victim to these snakes and started to become extinct. The snakes, after wiping out most of the prey on the ground, climbed the trees and began devouring eggs and baby birds from the nest. The birds, fed up with these evil creatures, held a meeting and they came to the conclusion that the only way to escape this cruel fate was to get their eggs to safety. They went to the other animals for help and pleaded with them to save their eggs but none of the furry critters were willing. The birds flew back to their nest, dejected at having failed to find a savior. But then a small yellow bird zoomed overhead chirping "I found them ! The bunnies are ready to help us. They are fleeing west to Jerusalem. They have agreed to take our eggs to safety."

The birds carried their eggs to the rabbit burrows, half the eggs fell from their talons on their way to the burrows but whatever was left they gave to the rabbits. "Please take our babies to safety" they cried. The bunnies nodded in unison and began their journey west. The snakes aware of the plan, created a blockade at the border of the jungle but the bunnies were smart. They hopped faster and faster building up enough momentum and by the time they reached the border they were able to hop over the blockade. The snakes hissed and cursed the bunnies but they knew they were beaten.

After a long tiring journey the bunnies decided to rest in a cave near the mountains of Jerusalem. They huddled in a corner keeping the eggs warm when they heard a commotion outside.

"In here... bring his body in here... Place it down there..... Do you think he will rise again on the third day.... You are such a doubting Thomas, anyway I'm gonna get me some wine...... Don't bother, its turned back to water"

The bunnies witnessed the scene unfold before their eyes, not making a sound lest they be discovered. The men covered the mouth of the cave with a huge boulder and the bunnies were trapped inside along with the body of the strange man. Little did they know that the man was not dead but only unconscious from the harsh treatment he received at the hands of the Romans. Although he was not going to stay alive for long trapped in here. But as we know, bunnies were smart creatures. They started digging furiously around the boulder and after two straight days of strategic tunneling, the boulder started to roll away from the cave. It crashed against a palm tree and the deafening noise, which could be heard far and wide, woke the man inside the cave.

The rabbits streamed out of the cave carrying the eggs with them followed by the man in the robe. But something wonderful had happened to the eggs. The calcite present in the cave had leached into them and bright colorful patterns now decorated the plain white eggs. The gathering crowd started murmuring amongst themselves "How is he still alive.... Its a miracle.... Where did those rabbits come from.... mmm hmmm East errr I think from the forest? " Thus a new tradition was born involving bunnies and colored eggs.

Strider finished his tale and he handed out the chocolate eggs to the kids and wished them "Wish you guys a Happy Easter" and he also warned them "Don't be greedy kids, take only one egg and share the rest with your friends"

Nene enjoyed the story very much. She was out of everyone's plain sight, hiding in the shadows, listening intently. When the story finished, she emerged from the dark furry side and made a comment to Strider. "Oh, so wholesome! So pure! I love those little furry critters. When halloween time comes around, I hope you have a story ready. And I'll wear my furry suit costume to match the occasion!"

Some of the kids started to tackle her because Nene took too much of the chocolate eggs. She apologized to the little kiddies, pouted and made them hold out their hands. "One for you... Two for you.... Yes, here.."

She smiled when she finally finished handing out the eggs she stole. "Happy easter, Strider. I'll be sure to pass this story on to Mixwell. He'll love it."

Joyri was not one who made a habit of popping up in the streets, most of the time she was too busy behind the scenes but as she was making her daily runs Strider caught her attention. She stopped and listen to his story, he seems to be a natural with kids and was very creative too. After the story was over she couldn’t help but smile.

“Have an eggcellent and bunny-tastic Easter, Strider!”

Joyri quietly disappears off to her coffee shop for an oreo cookie milkshake. and chocolate cake.

Takk carried a chocolate egg laden wicker basket and walked into the streets. A group of kids, some men and a few elderly were gathered around the town square and he made his way towards them. Setting the basket down on a bench he spoke," I know we have gone through some rough weeks and the coming weeks might be even more testing. But we just need to hang in there and this will surely pass. To lighten the mood and give you a chuckle have a look at my great grandfather's Easter tale."

Takk took a bunch of eggs from the basket and passed it around. "Happy Easter everyone. Share those eggs with the rest of the guys. Don't be greedy now !"

Vidic was making his way to his favourite coffeeshop when he spotted Takkar carrying a wicker basket filled with colourful eggs. Curious to know what was in these eggs, Vidic broke off from the footpath and headed straight to Takkar, whom promptly handed Vidic a brown spotted egg and an Easter greeting. Happy with this unexpected but delightful gift, Vidic tilted his hat and thanked Takkar while flashing a smile.

With the egg tucked nicely under his arm, Vidic continued his way to get his favourite cup of coffee to start off this beautiful day.

TrashPanda's nose had been twitching for a good 15minutes despite being smeared in half rotten melon seeds from the dumpster he'd opted to dine in for lunch, it was something approaching a heavenly scent wafting down the streets.

He jumped out of the bin, wiped his nose with a furry paw and gave chase to the origin of the glorious odour.

As he turned the corner he saw the kindly gentleman sat on the bench with a basket and hurried over only to be given one as if some kind of golden mis-shapen ball of glory!

"Many thanks good sir, may you and your's have a Happy Easter too"
