What do you mean my mother traveled through time? September shouted over the blaring evacuation sirens towards her Auntie's general direction. The usually serene room was a flashing red chaos as her and her guardian rushed around gathering items to take with them. "I means what I just said, girl." Her Auntie replied as if that cleared everything up. As if September was just suppose to know. She paused at the reply, holding the tan sack she had been putting her most treasured items in, and stared at her Auntie. Auntie! That doesn't make any sense...and if it does, how did I never know about this?! The chaos of the ship's evacuation was adrenaline boosting. The siren's screamed while the ship's haul was creaking under pressure of the attack above them. This may be not have been the best time for September to be demanding answers, but she once they made it to the escape pods there was a chance she would be separated from her auntie. "No one be knownin' about it, girl." September sighed and got back to the task at hand. She twisted at her waist and picked up a plaque she had received in school just over a year ago. Wanting to take it with her but deciding it wasn't that important she plucked a picture of friends and dropped that into her bag instead. September swiveled around, to face her Auntie again, only to be jabbed in the gut with a stack full of books. "Silly girl, watch where you are goin'. Now now, put these into your sack." When September didn't immediately open her sack for a bunch of musty books, her auntie gave her a look and she scrambled. When they dropped in with a thud, hitting the ground, September let out a sound. "Don't you go complain' on me, girl. All the answers you seek are in these journals." Journals? Her auntie gave her the side eye when she picked up the few plants they had. Her auntie gave a grunt and shook her head no aggressively when September wanted to take along a stuffed animal she had had since she was a wee girl. Her auntie winced at another bad choice September had obviously made when she considered taking along the specialty shampoo bar she had picked up on Mars. But this! Four dusty, heavy as stones, journals. They were acceptable. Of course. Were...were these my mothers? September asked hesitantly. Her auntie just grunted and started to move through their cabin once again. Like she didn't want to know the answer. But of course she did. Her whole world was literally being turned upside down. Or at least that's what was the goal from their attackers outside. September wanted to know everything she could about her mother and had begged auntie to tell her for 19 years. But she also didn't want to be spaced. Or worse, captured and taken into slavery. She continued to put items she hoped were acceptable into her sack. With the journals taking up one third of the room she stuffed in a few sets of daily clothes. September replaced her lounge shoes with runners, just in case. Crossing the small cabin she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror. Her copper hair disheveled, looking like she had just woken up. Her hazel eyes, just like her moms, looking back at her with strong hints of panic. September quickly looked away, only to find herself now staring out of the window. The expanse of space was always beautiful to her. Even though it was something she constantly saw. Though, today's view wasn't the normal peacefulness it often was. Today it was war torn. Their ship, their space ship, had been attacked. That's how September started her day. Red. Sirens. War. "Girl, you be ready?" September snapped her attention from the window and to her auntie. Just let me... "September!" It always surprised her how quickly her auntie could drop her sector 23 accent. "You have exactly one minute before we head to the main deck." We aren't going to the evacuation bay???? They should have been on an evac ship five minutes ago. The sound of the ships haul was getting dramatic by each minute. It sounded like the ship was going to snap into...several parts. "No girl, you'll be gettin' a crash course in time travel today." September didn't reply. Her stomach turned. The adrenaline shifted to terror. |

Just as the door slid open a pipe disconnected and hissed hot air towards them. September jumped back, but her auntie pushed forward unphased. The small event sucked her out of all the information she was hearing and the catastrophic event that was currently happening all around them. September looked to the ground, looked to where the door would shut behind them. She was frozen. Realizing this would probably the last time she ever stepped through the door way. No, it would be the last time. She couldn't lie to herself. Everything that was happening right now would change everything. It would be the last time she would ever see anything she was leaving behind. The last time she would complain about watering all the plants her auntie insisted on growing and keeping in their home. Their home. She had spent so many years inside this space, on this ship. Where would home be next? The Aurora galaxy? Would they go back to Earth? Would Auntie ship her away to some far off planet for....for what. September felt it in her chest. As if the whole world, her whole world was collapsing. Like her heart was collapsing. She felt tears in her eyes and she couldn't move. "Let's be gettin' a move on, girl!" Auntie snapped September out of crumpling into herself and onto the floor in a pile of tears and ache. They raced through the crew deck halls. They had been on the Galantica for roughly 4 years working in cleaning and sanitation department. The pay was okay, but the ship made it worth it. The Galantica was a luxury space cruiser. A playground for the rich and famous to cruise from system to system, galaxy to galaxy. It was a dream opportunity for anyone in the lower lower lower class to score a spot to work on the Galantica and somehow September's Auntie had secured two spots. Auntie, why is the Wolf Corporation attacking the Galantica? "Shh girl, there's no time to talk about such things." Auntie replied quickly and then added. "You don't even be knownin' if it's the Wolf Corporation so you shouldn' be even sayin' such things." It was a scold, but September knew what she saw when the chaos started. She had been working as a server at one of the high end restaurants with an amazing view. To bad today's view was a stealth fleet determined to take the Galantica down. The Wolf Corporation pretty much ran/owned a lot of a lot. They were massive. Even on the most remote planets the dwellers could tell you who Wolf Corporation is. However, they company was not in the business of war. Sure, sure, Wolf Corporation had undoubtedly helped fund a lot of wars, but attacking a ship...a cruise ship at that...was very, very out of character. |
