Luis sat down at his desk in the study room of his house.. Torn in pieces by the recent events, he slowly sat down into his chair and picked up the pack of smokes off the corner of his desk and quickly stuck one in his mouth as he scrambled to find the damn zippo of his... He grinned as he found it nestled in his front pocket.. He flicked open the lid, causing the flame to ignite and raised it to his cigarette hanging from his mouth... He took a long drag and exhaled before picking up the pen on his desk and bringing it to the paper on the desk in front of him...
He quickly folded up the paper and reached for an envelope in his desk.. he quickly licked it and stuck the paper inside, glancing over to Joe and giving him the nod. Luis slapped it down on his desk and took another deep sigh... "Make sure a copy of this reaches our friend down at the Labor Union.. and alert all of our guys.. Race Street is no more..." "You got it boss..." Joe Delorenzi said as he picked the letter up off the desk and tipped his hat "Saluti, Godfather Patangeli"
Luis whipped his chair around and stood up so he could get a better view out of his window... His mansion was nestled in the South Philly Hills, mostly unincorporated and still much of it was farmland.. He grinned as he watched the sunset beyond the hills.. He took a long drag off his cigarette and exhaled with a deep sigh... So many of his friends and family had died these past few days, never would he have guessed that he would be the last Don of Race Street... but so are the way things go in this life.... He hoped he would be remembered not for his choices of standing idle, as the internal power struggle happened over the past few days.. But goddamn him if he didn't believe he did what was right by his people under him, and for the hopeful future of South Philly.... Taking a final drag off his cigarette, Luis proceeded to retire to his bedroom where he flopped off his loafers and threw himself back into his king size bed....
He laid there, thinking of all the people who had come before him... Jack Mezzo, William Bowden... Louis Mezzo... Isabella-Luciano.. he couldn't help but feel emptiness inside... Why me? Why was I chosen for this job.... Thinking of what his father would say to him right now, Luis shook the thoughts from his head. He had to remain strong for his people.. they needed a strong leader in these dark times and by hell he was going to do his best... but he knew that it was time to put Race Street to rest...
Slipping off into the dreamworld, Luis began mumbling to himself in his sleep... "Patangeli Incorporated...Change...." he slurred to himself as he finally knocked out. The Godfather was due for some much needed rest..... |
