Time and Place Started by: Kat_Pryde on Jun 02, '19 22:49

There was a time and a place for everything.  At least that's what her mother always said.  Kat did firmly believe this and she very well knew that weather could play a big part in the whole time and place scheme of things.  There was a time to go out walking, or whatever it was that people enjoyed doing outside...  There was a time to stay in and snuggle up by the fire with some hot cocoa and a good book.  Today was one of those days and yet there was one young Kat who was nowhere near a hearth.

The rain poured down on the streets and people could be seen rushing hither and yon just trying to get to where they were going be it from building to building of even just from a building to their car.  Most ran with their heads bowed as if they were trying to guard themselves from the wet substances falling from the sky.  Even the animals had better sense than to be out in it for more time than they had to.  But it seemed there was at least one young lady who didn't get that memo.

Katherine didn't feel like being indoors.  She felt like she was going to lose her mind if she had to be inside one more minute and despite the rain pouring down, she moved through the streets with such purpose and a smile that was almost painful in the way it melted your heart.  Eyes alight with interest, she moved past people in a pursuit of her own.  Hers were likely the only ones headed in the direction she headed.  She was headed straight for the city park with a spring in her step.  She wasn't sure what she was going to do out there, but she was fairly certain that there would be some solace and alone time to be had that was not contained within four walls.  Already she was soaked through, but she very quickly found she didn't care a bit!

Reaching the edge of the park, she felt a grin spread upon her face as she suddenly broke into a run, running through an open field without a care in the world, just running for the sake of running and it felt glorious.  Little did she know, she wasn't the only one out here but one would be sure that this would change momentarily.

Jay was anxious as business had him running from one city to another. There was a never ending amount of work that needed to be completed and in a timely manner. He was comforted through on this day as heavy rain had a wonderful effect upon him and calmed him. He was sitting in his car by a park just listening to the droplets hit the roof of his car. He reached behind his passenger seat and removed an umbrella. Jay then opened his car door and let the umbrella loose as he stepped out into the rain.

As the door shut behind him he walked to the tree line of the park and pulled out a cigarette. He lit in and took a long drag, exhaling the smoke slowly. He watched as puddles began to form and grow on the ground before him. He closed his eyes and listened. The sound of rainfall was among his most favorite sounds in the world. He opened his eyes and to his surprise he could see a young lady running across the field. He began to grin as he noticed she was rather enjoying herself.

Jay took another long drag from his cigarette and continued to watch her run, jump and dance around. He was certain it was only a matter of time before the red glow of his ember was noticed. He could not make out who it was before him with the heavy rain, but nevertheless he did not feel threatened by her so he simply maintained his position. Then as he took another drag, the light grew brighter at the end of his cigarette and he could see her stop and look over to him. Jay smiled and waved in order to let the young woman know he was not a threat to her.

Alone in her own little world, Katherine spun and danced, leaped and twirled.  Her carefree nature was highly obvious in her careless movements.  Her wild little dance went on for many moments...  There was no rhyme or reason, there was no order to it...  It was simply a joyous chaos.  She expressed what was deep within her.  It wasn't likely she'd have many, if any eyes on her here and now.  People tended to avoid this type of weather...  Although Kat never did understand why.  She loved it!  Loved the smell, loved the sound, loved the sight...  Just loved it.  She didn't care much for how cold it was, but even that didn't deter her.  She would simply dance and move as her heart desired.

But eventually her little dance came to an end...  She slowed her pace, moving a little more sedately, her breath a bit heavier with the effort of supplying enough oxygen to her ever moving form.  But still she moved, and one might then notice that her eyes were closed.  She really was lost in this moment.  Yet as her movements slowed, those gentle brown eyes fluttered back open.  But in that same moment, she caught the sight of movement.  A hand waved...  Garth's voice rang out starkly in the back of her mind.  'Never let your guard down'.  Oh he'd be so furious with her.  She hadn't even noticed the man's approach, had no clue how long he'd been standing there, didn't even know who the heck he was even...  Well...  She wasn't dead.  Typically in this life, if someone wanted you dead, you'd have already been dead.  But no, he just stood there with his umbrella.

Carefully fighting down the flight response that rose and made her usually jittery form even worse.  'Calm down Kat...  Not everyone is out to kill you.  Perhaps he's just out enjoying the day as well...'  Yea...  That must be it.  She slowly made her way toward him while trying to make it seem like she was just moving casually, coincidentally in his direction.  She returned his smile, head tilting a little, betraying her curious nature.  "Beautiful day for a walk in the park, wouldn't you say?"  She beamed at him, raindrops dripping off those batted eyelashes as she twirled, allowing her tiny form to get even more soaked with every passing moment.  She'd likely get sick, but it was so worth it.  Finishing her little twirl, she merely grinned over at him, those eyes sparkling with an insane infectious joy.

Along the perimeter of the park a slightly stocky, orange alley cat stalked the shadows. He was handsome with a white muzzle, belly, front paws (long one on the right), and a brief trim on the end of his tail, a pair of four whiskers, a crimson nose, and yellow eyes. From his position he watched as the other man had watched Kat, his tail swishing furiously. Something about her had his attention strongly focused. It wasn't often the orange cat was determined to stand or sit in the RAIN of all things.

Kat noticed him... Finally, he could feel better about her now. She'd seen the possible danger. He rumbled softly, happy with himself for watchi~... Why was she heading toward him? He could sense she didn't know him... But he also didn't -really- seem like a threat. Regardless, the cat would continue to watch from the shadows. She twirled, and the two spoke... He watched Kat giggle and then talk for a bit. The other man laughed and eventually tipped his hat to the lady, offering her a kiss to the hand before heading back to his vehicle. As the two departed, the orange alley cat stretched his front paws outward, curving his back and yawning slightly.

Thomas whistled at Kat as she walked away from the man... Had he ALSO been there the whole time, leaning against the tree as he was? Possibly the best at blending in there ever was if he had been!

"Heya doll! Pretty dance ya got there. I could see the rhythm playin' in ya head." He chuckled and smiled. Looking up and shielding his eyes with his hand, wiping away his soaked black hair, he called out, "What has you playing in the rain, hmm? You're liable to get sick out here!"

He remained leaned against the tree, partially hidden from the rain by the tree's branches, his clothes remarkably dry for how soaked he looked.

Katherine laughed and joked a little with the stranger who did seem a bit surprised at her being out with no umbrella and already soaked to the bone, and yet it didn't seem to bother her a bit.  Well they chatted it up for a little while but then the young man before her quietly excused himself and Katherine parted ways with him hoping to meet him again sometime.  Little did she know that this may not be in the cards.

She herself was not quite ready to depart so she would quietly continue her happy dance.  She found if she kept going, she hardly noticed the cool drops as they soaked her.  It honestly felt nice even if her HQ was as far from stifling as you could get!  But just as she got midway into the third rotation, she heard a loud whistle.  Jumping a little, she turned around looking for the source.  Her chestnut hair was plastered against her cheeks, ponytail hanging down to brush at her mid back.  Blinking raindrops and sending them dripping from those long lashes, she honed in on the young man leaning against the tree.  Two in one day?  Out in the rain?  Goodness!  And she thought that she was the only crazy one!  Again she likely should have played on the side of wary, but she simply couldn't bring herself to do so!  She wandered over closer to him, a tune now rising as she hummed softly.

His words brought a gentle smile and even a light laugh from her before she turned her face up to the skies. "The rain plays it's own song if you listen carefully enough."  She chuckled gently as she swayed almost to illustrate this.  "But I do have a fitting tune playing in there to accompany it."  She grinned a little but returned her attention to him again as he continued to speak.  "I just couldn't stay in on a day like today...  Isn't it glorious?"  Those eyes returned to those of the young man before her and unlike the last few months, they held a carefree nature that she once held dear and now seemed so far from her more often than not!

She moved closer to him to be able to hear him better and seeming to not be too nervous, even if Garth's words were once again ringing in her ears.  But if he had his way she'd trust no one.  Then again perhaps that was how one stayed alive.  It certainly wasn't her way though and thus with a playful glitter in her eyes, she'd approach with a joyful boldness.  "What about you?  Do you typically spend your days out in the pouring rain or is today just special?"  Another twirl would be indulged in as she gazed toward the sky awaiting his answer.  She just wanted to be free today and that was what she was going to do.

Thomas chuckled at the girl... Apparently she hadn't remembered chasing down 'invisible' beings and catching tiny weasels. At least she'd assume at that point that he hadn't been able to see the larger creature that they had chased through the fish market and down into the park before it did, in fact, vanish. Thomas shrugged. It wasn't like everyone in the Magical Congress actually knew each other. It also wasn't as if he'd been -active- in the Order for some time having just recently returned from... well... only he knew.

Now there was a British wizard in charge, and there were no-maj's helping do things with the black market... Magical and non... He wasn't sure he -liked- what this Newt Scamander was doing to his beautifully cryptic hideaway home in the Order of Merlin, but he'd give their new Councilman a chance at least. He was nice, and incredibly interested in the lives of magical creatures, so that was a bonus.

Then there was this beautiful little mystery, Kat_Pryde . Who, or 'what', she was eluded him. He'd never met her, nor heard of her beyond the day they had chased the weasel through alley ways and crowds of people before luring it with a pouch of shiny coins. Yet here she was again, playing in the rain and capturing his attention. She had to be magical in some way or Newt would have -never- made her a second seat council, right? Or maybe she was simply intelligent and open minded enough that it wasn't an issue? Regardless, he would eventually find out.

He'd paused briefly after her questions, watching her spin in the rain; laughing. "No, no. I don't often spend my time in the rain. In fact, I quite prefer being dry minus a good shower as I get the chances. No... Most of my days are spent as a street entertainer, doing shows for those that want to watch."

He pulled a few wallets and watches from his pocket... "Speaking of watch, need one? People seem to leave them behind at nearly every single performance... Some even leave their wallets! It's the strangest of things..."

He smirked playfully, and took a dainty looking, silver chained watch, then slipped it over her wrist. "Here, at least you'll know how long you're out in the rain." He winked. "Names Katherine Pryde, right? Right hand lady of the Order of Merlin?"
