| A New Type of "War"? | Started by: Francis_Kuklinski on Dec 21, '10 16:11 |

Now, this goes against the grain and it is one man talking in a bar.. But what do ya make of this? Two Dons fall out, it’s nothing absolutely, it’s not a territorial dispute – but it’s definitely a falling out. One gets very angry and he wants something done – but doesn’t want to cause a big war. This is just a question, I’m not suggesting or advocating this course of action – but how about the Don sends a couple of associates into the other guy’s city to clip a couple of his associates? The rules of combat could be – no Made or above; just associates. The other cities would watch as the lower echelons battle it out – or maybe the Dons would say enough is enough and call it off. But wouldn’t that be interesting – the higher ranks sit safe; the lower ranks slug it out. What do you reckon? |

yeah a good idea i suppose, but it would definatly cause tensions between higer ranks, and before you know it, there would be a full scale war. i mean, if one's lower ranks were to all die = loss of earnings, one wouldnt like that. |

I agree with Shawn. It would be a way for the new guys to prove themselves. |

It's a great idea in my opinion. To be honest, in a real "Mob War" Made Men aren't doing alot of shooting, it's the thugs and gangsters running around earning their keep and I guess you could say it is a type of "Initiation". |

I see your point, I really do, but I don't think it's really realistic. A Wise Guy is only going to have a fairly decent gun, and with the amount of bodyguards running around protective lower ranked folk, the war would go no where if the higher ranks weren't involved. |

Don't think the lower people are starting it Sammy. They are just the main ones to participate in it. |

I understand the point being made and that it does make sense. But you can't help it. There will always be full out wars. Plus if you sat there and let the lower ranks battle it out and one of them had a better gun than the rest and kept knocking down the opponents guys then you would no doubt see a higher ranked member step in and shoot down that member. Then other higher ranked members would step in and start shooting and eventually you have on dead crew leader and one family that is extremely weakened. As for the whole profit aspect. Yes if you lost all your lower members you would lose a lot of earnings. But this really isn't something to say no to the idea all together. The higher ranks definitely make more money. You can't question that. They can get involved in bigger crimes and make bigger drug deals. So you would end up with a decent loss to earnings but that would come back immediately with the arrival of their kin. But all in all I think this would be somewhat of a good idea and a bit interesting to see what would happen when you don't just throw a guy into batter that is a Don with a gun that could slaughter any of the opponents. |

I think im on the fence with this idea. IN one way it would be nice because you could have a way to prove your self making the button a little harder to earn. It would also make things alot simpler about disputes between lower ranking members. THere wouldnt be any running crying to your crew leader that gangster x pick pocketed you or insulted your saintly mother. Which only draws the situation out and gets more people involved than should be. Instead you could just clip the guy or girl. but just like everything else we do in these streeets there better damn be a reason other than you just wanting to train your gun.
on the down side i deffently see people getting really pissed about it or over reacting. |

It's an INTERESTING idea, but if I'm a crew leader, I don't really want to leave it up to fifteen guys who I barely know to settle my disputes. I want to handle it myself, with my most trusted associates. And, yes, as others have mentioned, with the loss of resources, etc I feel it would be just a matter of time before hard feelings were formed and it turned into an all-out war. But you've reminded me, and I'm glad, with your thoughts of keeping the upper echelon off the front lines, of an idea that struck me the other day. I may take that conversation up on Suggestions Avenue, so keep your eyes out for that one. |

I get it - however, I think it only opens doors for chaos and would eventually throw everything out of whack. (No pun intended!) Lets face it, if the GF's aren't giving the final nod - then what does that make them in the "dispute"? Also, in war, lower ranked take out BG's and what? LOWER RANKS so I do not see the advantage to this at all. Lower ranks earn their bones by following suit and doing their part. This is how they gain status, rank and power. If this idea were to be implemented then I would think it would just phase out the need for GF's.. (My opinion.) |

Its not even really that interesting of a idea. All its gonna do is lead to more payback and bloodshed over the all mighty dollar. Thats what makes the world go around and you take that earnings away from a boss....then what do you think hes gonna do? Retaliate and not care if bones are being made or not. Thats just the brutal cycle of what would happen. |

Here's the thing; Associates talk, get drunk, shoot their guns and pick pockets. If a two Dons talk and decide to test out their youngs guns - then they find out who's loyal and who isn't. This is just an opinion, but should an Associate get the same protection as a Goomba? |

What if these "associates" are demoted hitters that got bged up. If there's a 200 kill Wise Guy with 100 bodyguards on one side what's to be done about him? By himself he'd wreck the opponent without trying. It'd be a fish in the barrel type scenario. Or, what would stop someone from demoting their hitters down? |

I'm partial to Rocks Paper Scissors myself.
But in all seriousness, I don't think this is an especially good idea. Given what it takes to make a good Don. Let's look at a two elements: Trust and Temperate
Trust: The Don trusts his soldiers to obey his orders and keep their mouth's shut. The soldiers trust the Don to protect them and make good decisions, decisions that are condusive to their wealth and health. That trust is essentially violated, if the Don is willing to juggle with the lives of some of his soldiers over a trivial dispute. Wealth and health are thrown in the firing line.
Temperance: Being a successful Don requires a specific set of character traits, amongst them is being temperate. Let the young bloods be the hotheads, a Don should never let anger or personal grief dictate how he runs his family. Now, when it comes to hostile action - either both feet are in, or their not. You can't dance around an issue like war and peace. Therefor, the don looks at the situation and with his consigliere and level head he decides "Is my family worth the risk?" If it's worth the risk, he commits all his cannons. If it isn't worth the risk, all thoughts about the subject matter is brushed deep under the rug and hopefully the other guy doesn't catch wind it was ever considered. |

So you're saying the lower ranks would bash it out and die just because some Don's need some entertainment? I have an idea, how about you read a magazine if you're that bored? |

If the disagreement isn't strong enough to necessitate the Dons locking horns, there doesn't seem to be much of a reason to have the majority of your earners running into battle. It'd be amateur hour in the back streets. What about negotiation? What about preserving your assets? There's a difference between wanting it enough to go out and grab it and wanting it just enough to watch it sloppily unfold from your penthouse balcony. War, and diplomacy, shouldn't be taken so lightly. |

*wonder and ponders the real innovation behind the idea...*
well, its nothing new, in real life and war they sacrifice the lower ranks, and the innocents. It could bring indeed some more fun for lower ranks and for the game for the families and lower rank agreeing in participating. should gather some more data on this. respect

"but why should some Wise Guy be taken out for his colleages big mouth?"
Do you understand what a Mafia family is? We die for our brothers mistakes daily. Not saying its right, just part of our way of life. |
