Fisk steps out of his Chicago office and locks the door, nodding to the muscle he had brought over from Sicily to watch his back, the two men start walking down the same old street "My friend, though I value my role within the family and do my best to keep the boss happy, I can't help but think, whats it all for? The bodyguard watches him with curiosity, mainly since he doesn't speak a word of english "Sure we aspire to make it to the top, to run an organisation of our own, but once you get there, then what?. "You can make as much money as you please, and buy as much protection as you can, but there is nothing material in this world really worth laying down your life for, struggling for, standing higher than everyone else to grasp onto before you are, eventually, cut down yourself. "Right now my only aim is to deliver to my boss that of which he asks, but I would never want to be in his position, there is nothing worth all that work and effort that could make me want to be at the top, nothing worth fighting for, and frankly, nothing worth living for" |

There is plenty worth fighting for and living for once you are in that position. The only mobsters in the country who have any chance of significantly influencing our dealings are those who lead the families. They can shape and mold La Cosa Nostra to their liking. When a family Boss chooses not to do anything with the power he has, then yes, it does seem like a meaningless existence, but this is a result of personal choice. If you do someday acquire that promotion, make the most of the opportunity. Bring new ideas forward and promote the careers of promising young mafiosi. Don't sit on your hands doing nothing and expect others to bring excitement to you. What life is worth all depends on what you make of your life. The choice is ours to make it meaningful or meaningless. |

Mr. Capizzi, I do not have an answer for you. It is your quest, and yours alone, to find what it is that makes this life worthwhile. I myself find that working for my family is enough to sustain me in this world. I must warn you, though, sir, that you should try to find what that meaning is for you, because if you don't, your life will be sadder than it needs to be. I will paraphrase the Ancient Egyptians, who were much wiser than I. They asked two questions upon a man's death: the first, did you find joy in your life? The second: did your life bring joy to others? If you can answer yes to both of those questions, then I believe that you have found your meaning in life, and your reason to live. It's never about just getting ahead. It's about how it makes you feel to do it. |

Perhaps I am trying to speak for other people, see what I aspire to do I have already stated, and that is to assist my Boss wherever possible. It is what as a family head I do not know what is worth working for. |

I understand your dilemma, Mr. Capizzi, but that's where I feel the second part of the Egyptian questions comes in. Once you have achieved the rank of leader, there is very little more you can do for yourself, other than keep yourself alive. Therefore, surely it is up to you to give others the chances that you were given, and to work hard for the protection and promotion of your family. Once you have achieved where you need to be, it is then up to you to assist others in any way you can. |

Carnegie makes his way through the crowd to the front. In my experience, the majority of wiseguys who aspire to lead families do so because a mixture of ego, ambition and creativity. Ego because they want their name in lights and whispered on the streets with a combination of respect and fear. Ambition because they want to achieve the pinnacle of the life we have all chosen. Finally, creativity as they feel that they can implement revolutionary changes into our business and make life better for some, if not all. |

The Captain'd have to say its different for each and every Family Head. Obviously a lot of people are going to say, "to live for the Family", but that's a bit too cliche for The Captain. That part is a given. We wouldn't be family heads, if we weren't going to live, and die, for our Family. You gotta be somethin' more than that if you truly wanna make what you do, mean something. That being said, on to what The Captain aspires to do, and to be. The Captain wishes to stand out. It'd be great if he could be thought of as a great leader, but he wants something more than that. After he dies he wants something more than "oh yea he's up there with this Crew Leader, and that Family head." "He reminds me of this guy, or that lady." The Captain wants people to look at a leader and say, "Wow...this guy's just like The Captain was." or, "This guy has potential to be as great as The Captain." None of us are immortal. Our lives don't last forever. But the closest thing we can get to immortality, is to live on in the memories of the people in this world. The Captain has already figured out the way to doing this. One must be innovative if they wish to stand out in this world. However, The Captain isn't getting the new ideas he thought would come to him in time. Every day it gets harder to come up with something that nobody else has done, but that's to be expected and it'll make The Captain's greatness all that more memorable. The Captain's already in the hearts of the people...now he hopes he can be in the memories of their children. |

What I am getting at is there is no reason to build a family. Nothing to defend or fight for. No territory. No business tributes. No politicians. I might say you build a family and then defend it. The higher ups of the family defends the rest of the HQ. Why when the "family" disbands and joins another crew leader as soon as their boss falls? Wheres the loyalty that you've supposedly earned by being this great crew leader? What I am trying to get at is what do we NEED in order to create some sort of struggle, for power, respect and money. |

Sitting on a bench near the street and reading a newspaper he sees a crowd gathering around a young man, he puts down the newspaper to take a look 'Ah, it's Fisk, my good friend' - He says to himself He puts down the newspaper and stands up from the bench. I especially like the paraphrase of Ms. Principessa and the opinion of Mr. Carnegie, they make sense. To be a leader it is important to have that certain mixture Mr. Carnegie spoke about and the reason to be a leader should be the paraphrase Ms. Principessa stated. But it seems like you're looking for more." "Where's the respect and the loyalty of the family, if they run away after the death of the boss, you ask. Well, that point was already discussed and it's a very hard topic. But there you should start maybe, build up a family which stands up after your demise - will be hard work tough as you know everyone wants to make it to the top, for their own reasons." "For me there are just three reasons why I want to make it on top, have influence on the whole mafia world, respect and being remembered as a great and a good leader. I hear so many people complaining about families or the streets or the way families are run and I would love to be part of some changings which makes this world better for all of us. And to be honest, I think you are a person who could do that, you have ideas, you have the manners and maybe one the possiblity and it would be sad when you don't take this chance."
