| War: time for new tactics? | Started by: DavidLynch on Jun 21, '19 12:39 |

War has followed a traditional and predictable pattern for some time now. It goes something like this. Spotters are sent across the eight cities to find targets. Heavy hitting guns are sent, along with personal to fire protective shots, to take out the leadership of a city. Typically, a wave of killings are carried out - a CL, his hands, and his biggest guns are taken out. A takedown then ensues, a crew, or indeed a city is wiped out. And, in the process, huge sums of money disappears. How many hundreds of billions of dollars have been wasted? Collatoral damage in the game of thrones that this world demands. What if a different strategy was tried? Let's say City A wants to teach City B a lesson. Let's imagine that the cash holdings of City B is about $100M. Now imagine a scenario where City A dispatches a series of middle ranking gunmen to target the middle and lower ranks of City B, and at the same time sending a message to City B's CL and Hands that they aren't targets: yet. City A could point out that City B had transgressed and that they could have been wiped out. City A could point out that City B has been wounded by the first wave and that they wouldn't survive the second wave. City A could demand a very large sum of cash. City B, of course, could hit back. But City A would know they were coming. And, with no pro-shooters, spotters, and fewer hitters, what could City B really do? City B could negotiate. Wouldn't this approach, at the very least, make things more interesting? |

erm....yea no. That wouldn't work and would be, to put it bluntly, is a rather silly idea for the aggressors and ill explain why. War is never money based, we dont war because that city has more money than us, we dont war because they have gangster walking round with huge and bulging pockets that are "insanely rich" War is a much more motivated act than that. It can be for territory; meaning a specific city is busting at the seems and needs to expand their operations to new pastures. IT could be that the specific city has had numerous chances to keep their members in tow. It could be punishment. Hell it could be a grudge from lines that has been passed down. Its many many things, but money orientated. But lets say it was and lets use your scenario, i can absolutely say that if another city took out my middle ranks and demanded money, i would be gathering all my city and my hitters and i would be returning fire, that you can quote me one. And i can pretty sure tell you that every other leader hear would/should do the same. So, now that every other Crew leader knows this, do you think it would make any logical sense to not "first wave me and my hitters" i can answer for them, no, no it doesnt. Even if any leaders dont make it out here to listen to me, i can 1000000000000% assure you that i and my cl's and my hitters will be taken out first wave and most likely when we are sleeping. WHY? well it makes much more sense, no? for the attacking side to cause as much damage as possible first wave. money is irrelevant (for a war reasoning anyway) The whole idea is, in and out fast. Causing as much damage first wave as possible.
So for me, this isnt ever a strat that id employ or think about doing. |

Insta - this is the type of reply I expected. I don't fault you for it, but shouldn't strategies evolve? Does this world only have peace and outright war? Wouldn't it be interesting to wage a range of types of wars, with utter annihilation being the last rather than first resort? |

I know you seem to be swimming with the fishes, not sure why, but im sure your kin can read this. I think naturally they do evolve but mechanically a war generally wont and cant. I suppose playing devils advocate here, wars are sometimes different dependant on situational times. Sometimes the numbers of protection vs the hitmen dictate how a war is run, how its won and lost. But a general ethos of war, is as above. I think lines are too long in the tooth to risk this and rightly so, imo. Risv vs monetary reward doesnt work for me. |
