Demotion & Bodyguard Limit, Maximums, et al Started by: ZeroSeven on Dec 30, '10 21:07

Earlier in the coffee shops, I touched upon an idea from a bodyguard discussion - as the current climate of the game is, someone can be demoted from whatever rank and immediately suited with dozens - or hundreds of bodyguards instantaneously. This doesn't sit well with a large portion of the game considering that it takes months in comparison to work a gun that's even close to shooting that, even with hours upon hours of work through bodyguard wacking. Without causing a disturbance in the balance of wack and defense, I've come up with this suggestion, in tangent with two others:

1) The main suggestion is to limit the amount of bodyguards you can purchase per week, or other time period. Accounts that opt to hire a small platoon that would rival the size of The Bay of Pigs Invasion can still do so, but will spend much, much more time in attempting to accomplish that.

2) Limit the amount of HP that can be healed in a day based upon your level of XP. Essentially, if someone was brought to demotion for thug, they would be limited to only healing HP that is comparable to the amount of work they've put into their account at that point. This would prevent them from training a large amount of bodyguards they've recently purchased thanks to demotion

3) Raising the price of bodyguard maintenance. My suggestion would be 1.5x-2.0x the current rate, but done gradually over time so that it doesn't immediately stifle the accounts that already own mountains of bodyguards. Combined with the first and second suggestions, accounts that are attempting to hire hundreds of bodyguards will also have to deal with increased maintenance rates and the fact that they aren't able to train them fully - and prolonging it dependent on the amount of time they're trying to spend hiring their bodyguards.

Suggestions, opinions and tweaks are quite welcome.

As I touched upon in my thread, I think a limit on bg purchases within a time frame will only delay or slow the problem. If people are willing to spend either hundreds of real life $ or tens of millions of IG cash, then they are probably willing to go through the demotion process multiple times if necessary. I think it would be good short/mid term but wouldn't do much to solve the underlying problem

Limiting the HP is a good idea, but when the account that became IWP at thug reaches Don, it ceases to have an affect. The bgs were still bought at thug at a severely reduced rate, and 2 months down the line, they can now be healed to maximum HP again.

The one I really like is increasing BG maintenance, and I even think doubling the prices is still quite cheap! This I think would go a long way to solving the problem IMO.

This would hopefully be done in tangent with the other two suggestions - My idea of a BG limit wouldn't be too generous, however. I think it should take - in my opinion, through demotions, about a month minimum to reach 100 - or something of the gist. With that factored in, and the fact that they won't be able to train their newly purchased BG's, by the time they rank back up they'll most likely be in quite a bit of debt by the time they're able to train their bodyguards fully.

Step One: These are offset for 80 days, allowing everyone alive now to rank to Don, be demoted to Thug, BG up and rank back to Don, there-by eliminating the need to compensate anyone.

Step Two: Demotion to Thug (or any rank), resets you to the base level for that rank, with a loss of all priviledges, and skill progression. If you are a don with 40 units, and 200 kill gun and you are demoted to Thug, you now have 5 units no gun and no kills, as wellas loosing your DFP. After all demotion is supposed to be a punishment.
Pros: Your 40 days playing are wasted, and you have to start again like a n00b.
Cons: Your 40 days playing are wasted, and you have to start again like a n00b.

Step Three: Bodyguards are brought into line with MIAs, IE you can only buy 3 BGs every 2 days. End of story. Costs are kept as they are now. 750k at thug, 1.25 mill at gangster, 1.75 mill at goomba, 2.25 mill at earner etc. If you want 100 BGs this will take you a minimum of 67 days to achieve. Further more, unless you are going to get a demotion every 2 days, the costs will be higher. If you do get the demotion every 2 days then you have just wasted 67 days unable to benefit from training your gun, gaining drug units etc.
Pros: No limits to BG numbers, so Dons, and GFs or other long lived characters can still be IWP etc. There is no need to alter ratios of MIAs or gun skill because peoples defences can still be at the level they are now. There will be significantly less demotion for the purpose of BG acquisition due to penalization and time required. this should have no effect on people who are friendless or contactless as they will still be able to fund their own BGs. the only penalization is to those who currently abuse the demotion facility in order to bolster their defences. Also, progression of Attack and defense will be more fluid, as opposed to buying 100 bgs at thug and needing a well seasoned gun to kill you (125+ kills). Realism - I'd like to know where the agency is where even today I can walk in and hire 100 Bgs in an instant. Also as your power and influence grows, so will your BG count as opposed to Thugs walking around with more protection than consiglieres and Dons. People buying BGs at higher prices will also take more money out of the game, something admin always want to do.
Cons: People will cry because they can't donate $500 in one go and go from being a target that no one likes cos they are an ass, to being just someone no one likes because their defense is un-naturally high. However, as you can still sell off your credits to fund BG training, and buy BGs I don't see it having too much of an adverse effect on donations. Besides which credits are still required for so many other things, such as MIAs, Jail breaks and now NPMs.

Of course I may have overlooked something here, and if I have I'd love to talk it over with you all, and see if I can resolve any misgivings you may have.

bah, didn't format well, oh well :s

You are not seriously putting the same post in everythread are you?

Just the two, really should have posted it myself, but didn't think straight. Strong pain killers have a want to make thinking clearly somewhat difficult.

i place it in sprozza's cos his was there, but it is better here as its more akin to Zerosevens suggestion.

What about the people who have paid 5.25mill for every single BG they ever brought? If you increase the maintenance cost, this is just punishing everybody, regardless of whether they brought their BG's through demotion or buying them, what I would consider 'properly'.

I would say this is quite unfair to the people who have had to pay 5.25mill for each BG, where as some people having to pay 750k for each, being demoted for BG's would still have a pretty big advantage.

Benton_Frazer, with the loss of all stats provided for an account from a single demotion - there really isn't any reason to keep the account around should there?

I agree there should definitely be some definite negative side effects, but removing all work put into the account at that point would be akin to basically killing them while leaving their name an empty shell.

As for limiting them like MIA's, 2 every 3 days is extremely unfair when it comes to war. There's a reason why crewleaders require cash - and lots of it - in wars. Private flights and to possibly replenish the bodyguards that are being killed by their attackers - I suggest something like 20-30 a week. That won't alienate the accounts that will be fighting for their lives in wars, as the chances of them raising $100,000,000+ is pretty slim, and it'll make it all the more nuancing for the people who wish to be demoted solely for the use of buying cheap bodyguards.

SammyGarcini, for people who have the money to afford 5+ million in the first place, I'm willing to venture that they would be able to pay for the added maintenance as well, as comparatively, it's rather paltry.

Another idea to float around is that maintenance gradually - very gradually - gets lower as you age, as your bodyguard gets to "know" you, slowly back to the current rates we're at right now.

I suggested the loss of everything if the demotion is back to thug, not for the loss of a single rank. if someone is demoted from Mademan to wiseguy, then they drop to 20 drug units, and lose their gun and 1/5 of their wack stat.

As for the limit of 2 Bgs every 3 days being unfair... well its not, everyone is in the same boat, so every ne is equal. The war is still a battle of attrition. You could argue that level caps or healing caps are unfai as well in that case, what if a CL is only a Mademan or a capo, versus a CL who is a Consigliere, he's at a disadvantage on the gun front, and the BG front as well.

If it's already been said then, my bad.

But would'nt a solution be to simply stop the "buying" of BG's like their somkind of middle eastern slave.

I think this could all be solved by scrapping the initial cost of a BG and instead add to the cost of training, as tho it's the BG's salary.

So a BG might cost 200k a week to hire, this would allow a gangster to hire one weekly for the same price as a GF would.

Meaning the gangster could afford one for most of his weekly profits, whilst the GF is capped by his weekly earnings, as 100 at 200k a week would cost 20mill.

Report Post Tip

That could work, but what we're trying to do right now is find a balance between the current system and the system we're trying to implement. Without it being too radical or making it impossible for newer accounts to take advantage of the "loophole" that older accounts benefitted on.

My suggestion wouldn't affect the system or throw it out of proportion - People can still load up on their bodyguards, but they now have to take into account the annoyance factor of having to wait to purchase more bodyguards, their maintenance price increased, and limiting the amount they can train based on the experience that the account has - which would be limited with a demotion.
