"The mood? It was what you'd believe it to be. Our commanders were happy that we had given our life to the cause, Reiner had received some praised and enjoyed the attention that it had given him. He was a true warrior, down to his core, he knew that he never wished to be an Eldian. He was a legacy for foundation and now he leads some of those troops."

Annie grinned uneasily, she noticed how Amy looked at her. Annie had thought the moment over, back then, it seemed like Reiner was nothing more than a nervous little runt. He had not done well in warrior training but his persistence, he continued and never looked back. Reiner had become the Eren in the warrior unit, he was the one that they all looked out for. The one that Bertolt helped train after all.

"You see, Reiner was the one that led us into the foxhole. He was the one that placed us on his shoulders, believe me, he was not our first choice. Nor would he be our second or third. He was just there, Reiner was a constant. If he wished to become the next war-chief, he would be determined and find any means possible to get it."

Amy could not help but place herself in the category. She had done the same when it came to the regards of the Halloween heist, she was willing to do anything and everything to win, now since the war had started. They had less time for fun and so she had done nothing, it had explained why they had all been stressed. They were not taking their stress out on anything and so, the situation had become different, they focused on work and made sure to have fun when they could.

"I can see how you are looking at yourself now Detective, I can see it. Under no circumstances are you like Reiner, that's the thing. He did something that none of us are proud of, he killed Thomas with a shot to the head. An Eldian soldier in service to their cause, he called him a filthy devil. He's broken to the point where he will question himself if he does something against his people, Reiner was like a brother at one time, then he became obsessed."

Annie shook herself out of this habit, she could already see that this was becoming more of a talk on Reiner and not on the mood after the battle. She sighed, knowing that the man in question had caused some problems for her already. She was not forgiving and would make sure that he would pay in some form, Reiner was not going to be given redemption, none of them deserved it...

"The mood was rather difficult to read actually. Our commanders were happy, as I stated before. Their little pet warriors had done what they needed to do, severely weaken the eldians and bring them to heel. Only this had done nothing, for the battle was not over there, the Eldians had tricked us at that moment."

Annie tilted her head and flashed back to that moment, only she did not remain there that long as the sound of a single piercing shot was heard all around in her mind.

"They had fired a single weapon...it had destroyed half of our supplies, they had invented a grenade launcher...it was truly spectacular and it was here that I recognized that they had a fighting chance. With one bomb, one grenade, they had sent a message..."

Annie breathed in simply, remembering at that moment the pure shock on her commander's faces.

"Don't fuck with us again...and we did, multiple times in fact. We poked and prodded, only the Eldians had never again used the weapon. The foundation tried to replicate it, we had failed in our mission. We dealt a serious blow but they had rebuilt and we failed to acquire their schematics, we had never again done a full-frontal assault on Seattle because of the very thing they wielded."

Amy and Rosa shared a look, if the Eldians had such a weapon, how comes that they never used it again? Was it the devastation that it caused or something else entirely?

"Thank you, Mrs. Yeager, I do believe that this is enough to turn certain things around...you may go."

Annie stood from her seat, walking to the door before she turned back with a hesitant smile.

"Thank you both, I know that I have not been the best in the eyes of your comrades but I am here to help. I am ready to assist you all in whatever you need, thank you again."

With this Annie walked out, leaving Amy and Rosa to bask in the silence.

"This is...everything, the story of how it all began...all because of greed. How poetic," Amy whispered those words to herself.
