| What does RESPECT mean to you? | Started by: Di_Fizzy on Jul 31, '19 00:17 |

All we have to begin with is disrespect, especially with this life we choose to live. We all yearn for this "prolonged respect". Now, tons of people look up to leaders and admire them as idols. For this,I believe that Respect must be earned. There is no way that someone can give respect to another without them earning it. Think of every popular leader in the world. They are ordinary people like you and me. They received their respect with their ACTIONS. For example, Calvin Coolidge was an astounding leader. Yea, people hated him; tons of people hated him. But you know what? Boy, did he get respect. Respect can conquer almost anything. When you do something for others, you actually get helped in return. You are viewed as a better person, you are loved, you are trusted, and you are respected. Only you can put the hand out there for others. So not only do you assist others, you end up helping yourself. Respect is a strong word and must be worked for. You can never walk around, demanding respect. You will be more disrespected! It is also a disrespectful thing, to demand respect from everyone around you without even knowing who they are. Or vice versa. Do you think Dr. H.H Holmes was respected as being a serial killer? NO! But he was a very respected doctor. Everyone, needs to know the true meaning of respect and first respect themselves before they can give it or earn it. Take a deep look within, and then ask yourself, do I deserve respect based upon MY ACTIONS. Do others around me DESERVE my respect based upon their actions? |

There I come from Ive learned that respect must be earnt, everyone that respect me I respect, always, so as I see it from my point of view are respect really something that must be earnt and also since all humans are differnet in mind cant everyone respect all, some have issues and cant do it whatever happens but are you a normal thinking person you respect easier people that shows respect. Respect isnt any hard thing for any to use against othe so as I see it can all respect others IF they will. |

Jester wheels into the discussion on his unicycle as he puffs on a smoke and spins iron rings on both arms. Yet another debate in the streets seemed to have caught his attention. He locked his unicycle and stepped up to the soapbox...
"Respect is maintaining composure when you just want to pull out your pistol and shoot someone who's being an asshole."
Jester laughs awkwardly.
"Just kidding, kinda. Honestly, I think that respect is something that you give out by making sure you listen to others and keep an open mind to their viewpoint - even if it's vastly different from yours. Respect is also conducting yourself in a manner that makes others comfortable with you. Basically - not being a dick. Thanks for bring up this topic Di_fizzy, I look forward to hearing what others have to say on this matter!"
Jester steps aside to listen to others. |

Di_Fizzy. I have helped MANY in this life of ours. Spent MILLIONS and tons of credit (Joe, you know). Then shit happens and folks forget about me till needed again for cash or credits. I STILL respect them, being only a year old to this game .... don't have ALL the in's and out's figured yet, but thankful to those who have mentored me. Glory Gang is where I started .... and MAD respect to Sosa for teaching me. Retainer crew then this ........... shit (still playing life). A shout out to Sosa, Criseria, Elyan, JackMezzo to name a few (Many others, but too drunk to keep writing). Anyone who taught me anything has my respect. Most of you have been here (it seems like forever) try to remember when you started ..... Who helped you? My list is at least 20 folks long. I try to keep up with their new accounts(names) so I can help when needed. In conclusion, I respect those who have helped me along the way ........ regardless of how others feel about them. |

Sensing another interesting discussion going on in the distance, Blueface pushes his way through the forming crowd to listen. "Another one of these open-ended discussions a hair and a few words away from heated arguments and gunshots again, eh," he thought to himself as a smirk formed on his face, "sounds like the perfect conversation to butt into."
As the last speaker wrapped up his speech, Blueface stepped into the middle of the crowd.
"I see that everyone here agrees with the concept of how respect needs to be earned before one will receive them and I agree with this. Yet I think everyone seems to forget one thing: the bare minimum definition of respect. I respect everyone to not be an asshole to them unless provoked. That's one thing I always do. Everyone is deserving of that level of respect unless they wrong you. Not their ancestors wronging yours, but their actions. It would be silly to fault them for their ancestor's wrongdoings, isn't it?" Blueface shrugs.
"Now, on to the respect everyone has been discussing: earned respect. This is the type of respect that makes you look at a person and say to yourself: Man, this person's actions have shown himself to be quite the exemplar individual. I should definitely go out of my way to make sure this person gets all the good they deserve and make sure that I never ever do them wrong. This is the type of respect that everyone strives to get from each other. Well, I believe that this level of respect can be attained by someone from me just through his sheer reputation. I believe in the knowledge of the crowd and the judgment of my fellow mafiosi helping me decide who is deserving of it." Blueface says as he takes a bow and slips back into the now-large crowd. |

Aladdin was flying around on his magic carpet when he spotted some people having a discussion in the streets. Always one to entertain discourse, Aladdin swooped in downwards and parked his carpet next to the Light post. He then grabbed a cigar out his cigar case, he carried in his pocket. Lit it and took some deep puffs before he made his way into the middle of the crowd. As Aladdin walked inward, he heard different orators speak about Respect. Its something that he dealt with daily in his line of work. Ranks, hard work, Omertà all made up the statuatary fiber of the mob. Once the last speaker spoke. Aladdin made his way to the middle and starts to speak after he takes a puff of his cigar.
This is a nice topic you brought here to the streets Di_Fizzy, I very much appreciate the effort. I see how you speak of highly decorated politicians and doctors from our era. Those men were certainly respected for the hard work they had put in to get where they got. However what they did with that opportunity, is a whole another story. And in addition Harry spoke extremely highly about his predecessors and the men and women who have shaped his lineage. And last but not least, a nice little talk about how respect is earned. And how giving respect and striving for the best, earns people respect. Not to mention the most important bit. That dont be an asshole and give respect, and it shall be returned to you.
Running with that last bit. In my own recent encounters Ive had similar interactions. Aladdin started to pace a little back and forward recalling from his memory his last couple of days. Well for starters, we had a clown in the streets not to long ago. Someone that came out here demanding things from one of our sister organizations in La Cosa Nostra. He then continued to critique his organization and its leadership publicly. Now us in our line of work. We dont speak of what we do. We dont speak about the workings of the organization, at least not publicly. By bringing such issues to the forefront, he in a way disrespected La Cosa Nostra. And even after the late Godfather entertained him a bit, his lack of respect was pretty evident. Now needless to say, I dont know how good your news systems are. But a hit was placed on his head, well hits in plural. And the man was pronounced dead not much later after those contracts were sent out. Aladdin stopped for a second and he looked upwards. Had a puff of his cigar and then looked back down to the audience. Sad really. Such a young life unfulfilled. Such a tragedy. But these things happen when a certain line is crossed. This is La Cosa Nostra after all. Aladdin cleared his throat and walked about a little and then started speaking again. In another instance, and I know some of you may have certain feelings about this. But I am a thief at heart. I was raised that way, you know how hard it is fending for yourself without anyone but a monkey to look over you? And then eventually a Genie_. But yea, life wasn't good to me growing up, so stealing was a taste I acquired over the years. Now obviously when you get to my rank, we cant really steal food, even though, we aren't immune to robbing old ladies. Yet just stealing food got old. So I stick to my pick pockets. It keeps the thief in me alive and well. Aladdin started laughing. So yea, pick pockets. I do them, guilty as charged. And at times, I get away clean. At times I get a mail from the owner of the wallet. Sometimes there is communications, and at other times none. We all go along with our merry day. But every now and then some shmuck thinks they can mug a man of high honor. A Don no less of a family in La Cosa Nostra. Now Gods have raised us a certain way, and most of us follow the divine laws. Others have a different code. They feel embolden by it. Alas they are so wrong, because dis-respect doesn't go unnoticed. Now there have been moments where ive been compelled to just reach for my weapon and just put the man out of his misery. Aladdin pauses for a second as he takes a deep breath. And then the crew leader in me holds back. As much as I would like to see discipline when it comes to respect, whats the point of putting another soul 6 feet under? Doesnt fix anything. Makes me feel some what better about missing my next flight. But nothing productive really comes out of it, other than just tough love. I guess this side of me pushes more for constructive criticism vs just flat criticism used for disrespecting someone or discipling them. Teach them, they may learn. Shoot them, they more than likely wont. Aladdin pets Abu on his shoulder as he turns around and looks at the other side of the crowd. So I just gave you two separate entities, two separate examples of how our world functions. Respect is a intricate part of La Cosa Nostra. Those that play with it, dont understand the magnitude of those mistake. And those that are careful about respecting others; are usually treated in kind, from friends and adversaries alike. |

Link scratches his chin and ponders the questions. Only his medieval attire can be heard clanking around as he moves around thinking. After a moment he rested his shield from his shoulders. Well. I'm sure this one is going to be answered the same way. I mean you can't really think you deserve respect in this business without earning it first. Disrespect could get you killed depending on the person spoken to. So, yeah you need to show action and results before respect is given. You must stand up for what you believe in, in our cases our families. Our cities. Our businesses. Each requiring some input from us to be successful. Though it is always refreshing to hear someone pose this question. It gives everyone a chance to say their peace and talk about one of the most important aspect in our lives. Thank you my friend, I'm glad you came out here to speak about this. Link picks back up his shield and slings it over his shoulder. He walks away with the sounds of metal from his Master Sword and Hyrule shield clanking in the wind. |
