The Failed Potion Started by: Freak on Aug 01, '19 03:51

Day and night she remembered the first time she met HunterSolomon, if it was not for him she would have been put in the ground or worse, left there in the alley to rot and be forgotten. Freak knew she owed the man a lot, he was a dear friend and now someone she could not live without.

She had some work to do, either way, working on some medicines for the patients that believed in her. Some people did not believe in medicines of the old world, something where she would have been regarded as crazy or a phony, Freak was glad that people still believed in her. She was going to make sure that their trust was not misplaced, they deserved the best and they would get it as she stirred a brew that was currently sitting in the cauldron.

Without looking Freak grabs a vial of a herb that was meant for the potion in the cauldron, measuring it out, she missed the fact that she had knocked over a few flowers and some herbs that were now placed into the brewing pot of potion. If only she paid attention to what was poured inside, she would have never placed the next ingredient and so a loud poof came from the brewing pot, which drew a raised brow from Freak.

Suddenly she noticed the leaking contents from the shelf and looked back to the pot with wide eyes before the cauldron started shaking. She turned trying to find something to null the concoction, or cover it to minimize what was to come.

-Seattle Business district-

The day seemed to be normal, customers in and out of stores, shopping and lounging at the coffee shops. It was peaceful until the sound of a explosion rattled through the district, shattering glass of the shop and the shops next door. There was a dark smoke flowing out of the one, murmurs of voices as there was questions of what could have caused such a blast. Many civilians moved closer trying to see what happened as the sidewalks and the road had glass scattered around. The smoke came from one store in particular, "The Lilac Water" It was a apothecary business that freak ran in her home city. The cops moved people back away from the thick smoke that came out of the broken window, the smoke did not smell so much as fire but of herbs and medicine as though someone had burned them.

"Back up, nothing to see here." The cop wanted to keep the bystanders from the mess of glass.

The speedster known as Hunter Solomon had been planning to visit Freak, he was surprising her as he knew that she would have been working at her store and he had been planning to talk to her about the situation with himself and Eobard Thawne. It was more serious now that he had taken the serum and people were after him but that no longer mattered, he could talk to her about that later, he was looking for some snacks, he knew that she enjoyed some things and wanted to see what they could get up to. It was going to be a lovely day or so he thought.

He had landed a while ago, not wanting to give the girl a chance to know he was coming as they had called, he had had not been to Seattle ever. In his time, he had never had a reason to and now he had, it was not something that he was passing up any longer. Time had passed and now he had a beautiful woman with him, it was no longer something he would pass up.

Hunter had plenty of time, his work had been postponed and other things were being taken of, by Sara Heart. He was here for a good while, maybe two weeks, maybe more. Just as he was paying, the ground underneath him shook and he knew that was not normal. Hunter looked over his shoulder and found his eyes roaming the business district of Seattle, quite prominent for its housing development as well as other things.

"Sir, do you want to pay?"

Hunter nodded, feeling like something had happened and it did as he saw the smoke rise from the building, his eyes narrowed on the sight before speeding out of the store, giving away his speed to the cashier who could only stare in complete shock before letting out a muttered "Cool."

Hunter had made it to the Businesses and found that most were undamaged, completely left alone and yet he knew that not everything was what it seemed to be. Solomon focused and noticed how different this seemed, the smell in the air, it was like someone was cooking with some weird shit that had taken a rather volatile turn. He stared for a moment before sighing, only then he noticed the store that had smoke rising out of it, Freak's shop...

"Son of a bitch!"

Without another word, the speedster dashed forward, passing the yellow tape and the cops and heading inside, his speed made it almost impossible for them to see him. The speed demon did not care either way as he focused on the sight before him, Freak was out cold on the floor, her face partially covered in cuts from the glass that had shattered from the force of the explosion, this was just...wow.

Hunter crouched down, examining and trying to see if everything was okay, only then he noticed almost animal-like features growing from her blond hair. Hunter did not know what to say, he stared in shock and wondered what she had done to get this, he could only crouch down wondering what had gone wrong.

"What did ya do good doctor?"

Hunter turned his head, never leaving the side of the good doctor, his eyes staying on the surrounding area, noticing the cauldron and the fluid that had leaked out of it. Almost like it was toxic, Solomon breathed through his nose and found that it was disgusting for a moment, not as strong as the smoke itself but enough that had him blinking for a moment, wondering if he himself would need medical attention.

"Come on, good doctor, you going to wake up?"

Hunter stopped for a second, he wondered if this could be an attack of some kind or maybe then it just had been an accident on her part. He would have to wait for her to wake up, even though it pained him to see her like this, the speedster knew that it had to be like this for a moment, hoping she would wake up and appear to wake up beside a few cuts. Although something gnawed at him, telling him that she might need more than that.

Freak laid on the ground her mind wandering as she was knocked out cold. She was in a dream, her own mind playing back to the first day that Hunter and herself met. Their time spent in different areas, the shops and bars it was silly, but she could always smile about it. She sat up on a bench small chatters with Hunter as she smiled, it was her happy place in her mind just being able to be open with him.

She took a deep breath as he started to tease her about two 'freaks' being together, but who cared, they were their own person and they enjoyed the company of one another. The birds were being loud as he started talking, to her it seemed the phrase "good doctor" was being repeated until the images in her head started shattering, crumbling. Unable to explain what was happening as it went dark, those thoughts and the light in her mind. She was being called for and who know how long she truly was out for.

"You going to wake up?"

Freak slowly opened her eyes staring at the floor, stunned and still in shock of the accident, she laid still her eyes held a look of exhaustion as she saw someone sitting beside her, her face had a few cuts from the glass as she moved her head after some silence. Groaning as she felt stiff from laying there, she could not stand the thought of Hunter seeing her like that. Thats when it hit her, the person who was next to her was no one but someone who she could not bare to make worry.

"F...fuck..."

Freak continued to stare before looking directly at the base of the counter. She growled at herself moving her right arm she started to sit up finally getting to her knees she looked around staring at huntersolomon

"I am sorry for the mess..." Freak's hair moved as the ears under her messy hair folded back. She reached over and started picking up cracked viles from the mess of glass on the floor. The building still full of smoke that smelled like burning medicine she coughed a few times. She felt terrible, she stared at the viles. Trying hard to ignore any damage to herself she looked directly at Hunter with a small smile, "We may want to get out until the smoke clears." Her voice was quiet and small as she tried to assure bother herself and her love that she was alright.

Hearing her words, Hunter gathered himself together before picking her up in his arms, carrying Freak bridal style and with a controlled release of breath sped them out of the destroyed store that still had some smoke surrounding it. He brought them to a neighboring that was not-so strangely quiet. He sat them both down on a bench, looking her over for a moment before deciding to lean back and wonder what she was doing in that store of hers that made such things happen.

"You are going to talk about it, correct? All this and what happened because I am confused while also being slightly worried and I don't really like that."

Hunter chuckled, leaning forward as he places his arms on his knees before rubbing his face, wondering what antics she had gotten up to once more. That kind of explosion, he was not afraid to say that it had him worried, just what was that? How did that even happen, he had thought she had been killed in a rogue attempt to blow her shop up but turns out that she had done it herself. Hunter knew that but he just wanted to what had happened, what was even going on for this to even happen, had she forgotten something?

"You know that you don't have too but this type of thing was terrifying, I didn't want to lose ya in that moment, good doctor. So I would appreciate some kind of an answer, plus I am sure that we can go to a doctor and get them to heal you right up. One that accepts people like us..."

Hunter continued to stare at her new features, wondering what the heck she was brewing to come out this way. It was almost completely different from her usual features, considering certain things, now he legitimately wondered what this was. Certain features like this were not normal, he knew that much but when were they ever normal? No, they were just the opposite of that, they were freaks and people with active fantasies to the outside world.

"I'm trying to understand how this worked to be fair, how did you become this way due to a mishap in your brewing station. Did something get into whatever you were brewing or did someone do this to you on purpose? I know I'm hitting you with a lot of questions but I just want to keep you safe, good doc, I don't want to see you like that again."

Hunter leaned back into his seat, trying to cease those thoughts from coming up as he wrapped a single arm across her shoulder, bringing her in and knowing that she was safe.

That night he first met her had played into his mind once more and then he would remember how weak she was after that beatdown, it was something that he did not want to let happen again, he would protect from anything and everything. Her being in that state again was not something he wished to see.

Freak was surprised picked up before shutting her eyes as she was taken out of the building, she frowned at the thought of having to do repairs and clean up her mess when the smoke was cleared out. When set on the bench she opened her eyes, she leaned back and looked around as he asked about if she would tell him what happened. Looking at Huntersolomon she gave a smile.

"I... well, I was trying to work on some medicines.... and a few other concoctions... but I seem to have... knocked something over that should not have been added to that mix."

The ears flattened against her head as she frowned, she was not happy about the situation, so badly she wanted to tell him that she was also looking for a way to pull forward lost memories. But she would tell him soon enough, looking back at him she listened to his chuckle. Her frown faded away as she breathed the fresh air even though she smelled of burned medicine she was glad to have him there with her.

She shook her head slowly and smiled when he mentioned the fact of her being lost to the event and a doctors visit. She was happy but she put a hand on his shoulder and spoke softly.

"Seeing a doctor for this is no good as they would not know.... And I am sorry for making you worry."

Her ears twitched as she noticed he was staring at something above her, so she reached up feeling the ears that had appeared. She was shocked her face turning red she shot her hands up and covered her ears in a attempt to hid them. She started talking quickly and quietly to herself to where it almost sounded like mumbling as she panicked.

Then she stopped hearing him ask what she was brewing she looked over, tired eyes wide staring at him. She wasn't sure what had happened other then she had saw liquid dripping into the pot. She shook her head, hands holding down the animal like ears that rested on her head. She was pulled in by his arm she rested there for a minute.

"I.... I  do not remember what fell in.... but I was just trying to finish my orders... orders.. and practices..." She sighed at the end lowing her hands she relaxed into his arm tightly wrapping her arms around him as her ears twitched so did the tip of the tail.

"I'm here to help you lass, I hope you know that. In this type of moment, you won't be alone without me here with you. These new features of yours, they are going to change people's view of you good doctor, no longer will you be seen as a good person. I have been told the same thing. Maybe this change now but I won't be leaving you here to defend yourself, I'll be here for you. Now first of all...maybe we should just forget about this for a while, hm? You'll have to learn how to deal with it soon enough but right now, I have something for you, some news."

Hunter stroked her hair, coming into the contact with the ears and he had to chuckle as it had reminded him of their time at SODOM. Ah, such a good time but this was different, it seemed to be quite the business deal that had happened then. How odd that she had been wearing Bunny ears and now here she was with some permanent extra features it was rather funny to him, still he was smiling all the same before he picked her up, her small body frame was kinda odd but still, he got used to it.

"We're going to take your mind off of this for now. I've found some information on those men that were there to beat you up at the bar, it seems they were given orders someone else, someone that wanted us freaks put down in the ground. Now, they don't really know this life-changing effect that you are going through. This would be the perfect time to introduce them to the new you, to teach them what it means to be one of us, to be the hunted."

Hunter knew that he was slightly manipulating her in a way, yet in another, it was supposed to mean something else entirely. This type of business with these people was not going to end, people hated them, people wished them dead, people like them were an apparent disease and yet here they stood, throughout everything. They were still standing and ready to fight, no he did not see it in the way others would.

He was helping her accept herself in a new way, Freak needed to know this is what happened nowadays, they were not people who were trusted. They were hunted for sport and sometimes talked about like they were common animals, this was for the best but he knew it would not be easy for her.

"I know this might not be something you want to talk about right now but these people hurt you, they wanted to kill you. It is not right that they stand there, getting rich, they need to be made to understand. Everyone is hiding in fear, we have the means to do something about it, we have the means to be inspirations, to show the others that we can rise up against our oppressors."

Hunter turned his head away, he would not tell her what was going on with himself. It was better to keep her occupied elsewhere. Even with the fact that he was dying slowly, he knew that telling her was going to be nothing short of horrific, this was going to break her and it was something that he wished to keep secret until the final day. It was better she focused on herself, for now, he need not bother her with his own problems.

"Good doc, it's your choice. I want you to understand that I do not wish to force you in this and going down this path, there might not be a road to recovery. I'm warning you, just to think about it and see what you want."

He continued walking, knowing that it would be better to just calm her down right now. She did not need to be fretting over her new style, she was safe for now, with him, she would always be safe. Hunter would make sure of that, no one was going to hurt her with him, that was a guarantee. Hunter unknowingly made a promise to himself that he would keep her safe, even if he did not know it, he was going to keep the girl that he met on a random night safe, she deserved that much.

Freak relaxed, her hands dropping to her lap as she smiled up at Hunter. Her blonde hair twitched from her ears as she smiled. Taking his hand gently she knew what he was talking about so she nodded.

"I know... I am not that strong... But if you teach me, and help dear. Maybe I can defend against those kinds of people."

There it was, her will to carry on forward. She wanted to change, but she knew she could not defend herself properly. Though something seemed off in hunters voice. She let out a sigh and stood up wrapping her arms around him with a smile.

"If anything bothers you... Or you need anything, please let me know. I should head back and get my repairs done. I will see you soon love."

With that freak gave him a kiss, holding it for a bit before she broke away. She started heading down the walkway turning around before she went out of sight she waved to Hunter. Just seeing him, knowing he wanted her safe, she was happy. She couldn't wait to see him again, but little did she know that was the last time she would see him.

Hunter watched her go, knowing that on the inside this was going to be that one last time that he would see her. He had come to this earth a lonely man and now he had friends, people that cared for him but he could not stay here forever. He knew with the loss of his speed that his injuries would come back to haunt him, this was going to be the last time that he saw her, he would be dying and that would be the bad thing in all of this, he would be missing her. She would be alone in this cruel world, who was going to protect her?

"I'm sorry, I really am sorry. I did not want to leave you here alone in such a world, maybe someday you will find it in your heart to forgive me. I did not want to tell you this because I knew that you would find every way to try and save me, even at the cost of your own sanity but you must learn to live without me. I'm not going to be here anymore to protect but they will, Eobard will, I hope he does. I love you."

Hunter Solomon whispered his final words towards the Good Doctor even though she could not hear him, he knew that he meant every single word and so he was done. Releasing a hacking cough that he placed his hand over and pulled his hand back to reveal blood, he stood there for a while and looked in the distance at the spot where Freak had been moments ago, even if he came here against his own will, meeting her had been worth it. Protecting her had been worth it and had been the best deal possible for him, now it was the end.
