I work with the public. A young man came to my place of employment today with his grandfather. His Mother was in the car waiting. The youth purchased 2 bags of what I call salt. I say to the young boy, "Somebody likes salt." He smiled and agreed. I learned he is entering in eight grade in 4 weeks. He plays football and basketball. I looked him in the eye and I told him there are no consequences for making the right decision. Wrong decisions can haunt him the rest of his life. His grandfather thanked me and a few me later his mother came into my place of business and thanked me with a hug. The moral of the story is we as a community need to support our youth. His Mother was so grateful for my talk with him. In these times social media and gaming sites distort the minds of our youth. Particularly if they are bullied. |

Today's youth is nothing like we were. If I ever spoke to my parents or acted in public, the way children do today, I don't think I would be alive today. I would be bruised up from the floor up and probably wouldn't have any teeth. I brought my boys up a little less harsh than I was, but they had their fair share of spankings. They obey when asked to do something, they say yes ma'am and no sir and they hold the door open if someone is coming or going when they are. Children need structure and guidance. They learn by seeing and hearing. If we all set good examples, only good can follow. |

Yeah most of the people in MR, should not be giving out advice LOL. This is the reason why Apart from that, I mean there are always bad apples. The real problem is parents, the ones who get pregnant at 16 and then keep it. Then the father leaves and never comes back. (The I need to get some milk technique). Spend time with your kids, don't just give them an Ipad and let that teach them. Kids should be punished for being bad, but not a beating. Beating a kid who is rebellious or violent only makes it worse. Actually most serial killers come from that environment. Kids are taught to not respect there elders, the police and exc. Step the fuck up and stop blaming the kid. |

Corporal punishment fucks up kids. I also experienced this as a kid, and it really screwed me up. I definitely agree with guidance and structure though. |

I think it's great you took the time to give attention to young person. I think with adults lost on their phones these days, the youth of today don't get the attention they deserve. |

You mean like Potato Chips? My best guess is I'm from a different part of the world where we don't use "bags of salt" to mean anything other than literally. Was he blackmailed into buying Potato Chips?
Also, corporal punishment is just a tool. How you use it is what matters. Got too many spoilt brats running around these days that know they will never get smacked. On the other hand, seriously hurting defenceless kids should warrant a call to the Police. Preferably, you use a fruit knife for small fruit and a machete for forest vines. |
