Harlow tensed as she watched the exchange between Levey and Phil. She tensed, sensing that Levey wasn't just a well-connected man - friend and neighbor to these people, but something far darker. It all made sense now. His suit. His money. The way people just did things for him and why he'd want or need a gal like her to do what he was asking of her. She looked from Levey, to Phil and back again as he got far enough away that the two could speak privately. She lowered her voice, real quiet, just in case. There was a hint of nervousness in the tone, but also a curiosity - a barely concealed excitement that shone through her eyes as she said, "You don't got nothing to worry about from me, Mr. Posner. I ain't not chatty cathy if you take my meaning? I don't judge any one for how they make their bones. Ain't like the folks downtown at the cop shop or city hall has their hands clean, and those fat cats ain't sleeping in alleyways and stealing apples for their lunches." She shook her head. "Seems to me it's like that story, Robin Hood, if you want to survive in this world and help good people too... maybe you need to stand up and take it for yourself?" She arched an eyebrow. "You know... I ain't gonna want to go back to my old job. No matter what I think of this one. That fat prick of a boss I used to work for, he was handsy as hell, stole our tips more often than not, a real asshole. I don't suppose you'd take a stance on such disgusting behavior ... say if one of your own had an issue with it? Cause, ya know, if I were all tied up in something like that I'd have everything to lose flapping my jaw about your business Mr. Levey. Why you might consider helping me to set a fella like that straight as a form of an insurance policy. While me... I might consider it a real show of how much you care about those who are loyal to ya." She smiled at him as she took her first bite of sandwich. |

Levey nodded and smirked. "I might be interested in helping out one of my own if they should express a concern like that." He paused for a bite of sandwich himself and then continued. "So when we get back to the office, we can discuss things in more detail. For now..." Another bite of the sandwich. "...you seem like you've caught a glimpse into something. You've given me an indication of how you feel about it. So tell me, what is it that I can do for you Miss Harlow? What is it that I can really do for you?" He gestured to Phil again. "Three malts Phil, one of each." |

She gave some thought to that question. Then she nodded to herself. "I want to leave Detroit. I mean I know how horrible that sounds, you being so kind to me and all but this place ... my family is still here and do you think they want to help me, no. They're my blood kin, my own mama, and she's done abandoned me to the cruel world." "My low-life ex-boyfriend, who fucking the girl downstairs now and probably wearing all my clothing and make-up, they're both still here. I hate this place. I hate the people and ... I just want to leave it all behind and get a new start but I don't have no money and no options. Where would I go? What would I even do? I ain't got no education or trade. I dropped out before I ever got real far." She shook her head. "Mr. Posner, you're probably the most brilliant stroke of luck I've ever had and here you are asking me what I want and like an idiot I'm tellin' you I wanna go somewhere else... but gee, I can't lie to you, not after you've been so real good to me. Ya know?" She took another bite of her lunch and swallowed before adding, "Added bonus if the shits who dealt me a raw deal could get a foot up their asses before I left. Barring that, workin' for you and trying to ignore them for the rest of time is probably the best a gal can hope for. Ya know?" |

Levey nodded and took it all in. "Alright, I'll have some people take care of that. You give me a week..." Phil put down three malted milkshakes, one chocolate, one vanilla, and one strawberry. "...Thanks Phil. You actually might have made my job easier today. Sorry for snapping at you. I really do mean it about kissing this lady's ass though. She's my windfall right now, but I'll make sure I see you before the end of the week and get you started." He smiled as Phil was wise enough to nod and walk away. "So as I was saying, you give me a week, I give you ten thousand dollars, a car, a new wardrobe, and I'll see who I can get to give you a job somewhere out west. How's that sound?" He extended his hand over the milkshakes to be shook. |

With a wide grin she accepted his hand and shook it. "Mr. Posner, I promise I won't ever forget how much of a help you've been to me. If you ever need anything that I can do, all you gotta do is ask it. I'm your gal friday." She winked. |
