The streets had been a bit livelier of late, and it had given the leaders of "our thing" a bit of an idea. It was something a little different, a competition of sorts to see who would assume leadership of the fine city of Chicago. Flyers were nailed to street posts and plastered to the sides of buildings. The Godfather Council Presents
Soapbox City
Consider yourself to be a great orator? A voice of the people and master of vernacular? Step right up and take your shot, in Soapbox City!
Who? Anyone, of any age and any position, regardless of their standing in our world, who believes themselves to be a cut above the rest in terms of street speaking, plus one friend/lover/debate partner of their choosing to be RHM. What? Soapbox City is a contest that will open the windy city to the top orators in the community. Depending on the number of entries, either a top two or a top four will be selected and presented with the opportunity to lead. Where? Chicago, Illinois, the windy city, home of the stinking Cubs. When? Speakers will have three days (entry period ends August 11th, 23:59) to present their case, after which a 24 hour judging period will take place. After the winners are announced, they will have a 24 hour period in which they must set up their HQs. If a winner is too young to take an HQ, they may select a stand in on the condition that this person steps down when the winner is old enough to take the HQ. This stand in may stay in the city afterwards as your RHM. How? Any potential contestant will compose a street speech arguing their case to be selected for leadership in Chicago. What is said in the speech is entirely up to them - cover anything from your personal qualities, your ancestor's achievements, your goals for your future, your preferred coffee house, anything you can say to convince the world you are the best choice. We are not looking for a story here, we want speeches. Additional Details There will be no bodyguard, age, sexual orientation, or HQ restrictions. The only restriction will be that intra-city conflicts will not be tolerated in the first 30 days of the city. Striking against your competitors during this time will result in outside intervention. It is asked that you use the initial 30 days for team building, interaction, and debate. Any internal conflicts or concerns should be brought to the Council for mediation during this time. Winners will be responsible for all set up costs, including funding their placeholder if needed. If a winner cannot set up before the 24 hour period is over and cannot find a placeholder, a placeholder will be selected by the Council, and the cost of maintaining their HQ will be held to the winner when they are able to set up. Winners will be selected by a panel of all current city heads and godfathers. Good luck to all! |

Anthony stops to read a recent flyer that has been nailed to a post along his normal collection route. “Wow, what a great opportunity for some of our most outspoken and talented to make a name for themselves and get a chance of a lifetime!” Anthony smiles at the idea of The Godfather Council being so gracious before turning and continuing about his day |

Having read the flyer carefully a few times over, Emily takes a step back with a contemplative look about her. After a few thoughtful moments, a smirk grows slowly across her face. "Alright then." Reaching up, she unpins the hat from her hair and gives it a toss forward. |

Blueface was very tired after the long yesterday which had consumed most of his time so he thought a trip to the nearby speakeasy might be a good idea to unwind. Just as he was about to knock on the speakeasy's wooden door, he noticed a flyer which had been posted on it.
"Well, Chicago, I'm coming for you again," Blueface whispered ro himself as he turned the other way to get some arrangements underway. |

So far we have had only one formal entry into the event. Mr. Levey_Posner has made a very intriguing speech in the streets proclaiming that he would be a good fit for the city. Is there anyone else out there who believes themselves up to the task? A little over 24 hours remains before the deadline for entry. |

The entry period is over as of last night. We have a total of seven entrants for Soapbox City, as follows: Over the next ~ 10 hours or so the panelists will rank each speech 1 to 7, with a point total being assigned to each place. 7 points for a first ranked speech and one point for a 7th ranked speech. The points will then be totaled and the top four speeches will be awarded with spots in the city of Chicago. Criteria for judgement will range from quality, content, length, undertone, public reaction, and any other factors the judges see fit. We will announce the winners around 23:59 tonight when the judgement period ends, and then the announced winners will have 24 hours to set up within the city in their specified districts. Good luck to all, and thank you for participating! |

Wayne returned once more to the street corner where the original Soapbox City flyer had been nailed. A small but eager crowd had gathered there in anticipation of the announcement of the winners. "Ladies and gentlemen thank you for stopping out this evening. Let's hear it for our Soapbox Speakers, Rennie, Levey_Posner, @ Kinky_Roger, Aristocrat, Dante, Emily-Renfroe, and Louis_T!" As he called out each name the contestant came forward from the crowd to be recognized, and the applause of the crowd rang out. "Now I present to you, The Results." He nailed up another large flyer with details about the ballot of the council. "I present to you our winners: Levey_Posner, Louis_T, Emily-Renfroe, and Aristocrat!" The crowd applauded again. "The winners now have twenty four hours to set up their HQs, with the exception of Louis, who is not old enough to do so yet. He may either set up a person of his choice to hold the HQ until he is old enough, or he may wait until he comes of age. The first place and fourth place winners will be placed in The Loop: Levey and Aristocrat. The other two winners will take over South Side: Louis and Emily. Congratulations! |

Standing in place for a moment, a bit stunned, Emily manages to gather herself and grins. "I am truly humbled by and grateful to the Council for placing their trust in me. This is a momentous occasion for all of us who find ourselves in this position. I look forward to meeting and getting to know each of you, and to seeing what we all can accomplish for Chicago." |

Aristocrat really hadn't expected this result, it was a long shot. Just goes to show you that even a long shot DOES have a shot. Even if it is slim. He couldn't help but let the smile spread across his face. Looking around at all the others who came to congratulate, he shook the hands where needed and spoke to those that spoke to him.
"Thank you for this opportunity. This will be quite the endeavor for me, but I don't plan on just dipping my toes in the water. I'm a head first kind of guy, and I'll take this for all that it's worth. Again, thank you. I can't wait to see how much Chicago can grow." |
