This is perhaps the most difficult speech that I, or anyone from my bloodline, has ever made. For I must convince you, the people, of my candidacy for leadership. I could talk at length about the accomplishments of my ancestors; running a city; running a successful newspaper or writing the memoirs of a bloodline up close and personal to a lot of interesting things. None of these things mater to me, not in the slightest; neither does being nominated for Street Orator of the Year. But that's all in the past. I've been known as a rabble-rouser, a troublemaker, even a bit of a disrespectful, deathwish idiot. So why, then, am I here, talking to you fine people, asking to be considered for leadership? Well, for one reason, so many people have said I could, even should, ante up; actually put myself out there and make something of my potential. Not stand on the Streets shouting - actually lead, stand up and make myself be counted. Put myself out there to be criticised. Most will want me to fail. Some, a few, will want me to succeed. Will I be as active on the Streets with an HQ at stake? Will I speak truth to power, when I have much to lose? These are far from bland questions. And they are open questions. They can only be answered if I am allowed a chance by the leading and guiding lights of this thing to practise what I have preached for many years. So, what can I promise? A significant Street presence. Obviously. Adherence to old style principles. Good networking. Fun times. Some silliness. Respect. I will use my position as a CL to talk to other CLs, and write up our conversations. In short, I will be the type of transparent leader that many have wanted to see. Will you give me that opportunity? |

Luis had seen and heard the man before him speaking on multiple occasions, he was quite the little orator he thought to himself and it was no surprise to see him up on the podium box. Taking a final drag off his cigarette just as the speech was ending, Luis stepped forward to address the crowd and Louis_T... "A fine speech you have given here today. I truly commend you on putting yourself forward as you have here today, Your speech was short and simple but straight to the point, I like what you have said here today.. Another worthy candidate."
Luis grinned and tipped his hat to the man on the stage as the crowd began to clap in unison, Luis took this as his moment to slip back into the shadows and continue on with his day... |

If I had a vote, which I don't, I'd give it to this guy. I've listened to most of the other speeches and much of the content of those was 'here's what my predecessor did' (and not always with the right pronouns for us to make the distinction). Some tongue in cheek tooting of his own horn aside, Louis is actually giving us an insight into what he will do and why he will do it, which is sorely lacking elsewhere. If nothing else, I suspect it'll be entertaining to watch. |

However, I can respect this one and hope you a decent, if not completely successful chance to prove that you can, in fact, actually prove something of yourself. Best of luck." |

I’m not sure I have the weight around here to be impactful in the process of making this guy a leader, but the beauty of the streets is that it’s kind of a level playing field, if you will... My opinion - this gentleman should be afforded the opportunity - but still earn it in some way shape or form beyond coming to these streets and asking for it. I, for one, want to know that there’s the opportunity for advancement within an operation if I am to join. A leader needs to be able to carry weight. 40 lbs. perhaps? That’s the minimum any leader currently leading has, and far less than many. I’d suggest that’s a starting point. |

So what I have to say may not, according to the chap on the soapbox, be the common consensus of the many in favour, but bear with me. You say that you wish to be a "transparent leader", you wish to have conversations with other crewleaders, and then you'll document what has been said? Why would you abuse their trust in this manner? They will be putting faith in you, if you're successful, and you'll repay them by sharing the private conversations with the public? I find that very disturbing, and against everything this thing of ours entails! |

But Lyric, you presume that I don't know how this things works, and I so. What I am saying is that I will interview CLs, as I have before. Sitdowns, for public consumption. A noble tradition in this thing. |
