I was reading an article on Cracked.com which led me to this article on http://www.whatsmypass.com/the-top-500-worst-passwords-of-all-time.

Basically, it lists the 500 most common (and easiest for hackers to crack) passwords of all time. Thought this might be worth a look-see if you're one of the players who keeps getting tagged to change your password on here, and if this is your password for a more data sensitive site (your bank, credit cards, porno subscription), you might want to change those too.

Well that was a smart idea to use that wasn't it...

It wasn't the smartest idea, but if his username was ever 149GuvenYhBXEIhj, then it would make it 'easier' to remember the password. Or he could have just gone with 'letmein'.

If your password follows any sort of pattern then it is a bad password. Patterns are predictable. A random combination of both upper and lower case letters, numbers, and preferably other symbols, is ideal. If you think it would be hard to remember a password then learn mnemonics, like the Major System. Use it a lot and it'll become routine and come instinctively. I don't really remember the exact characters in my password; my fingers just "know" which keys to press, even though I use a number of different passwords in a number of different places.

But if you must follow a pattern, use an acronym. For instance, you might use "My name is Michael and I am awesome" as a password basis, alternating between upper- and lower- case letters and numbers, and adding a symbol, like: mN1Ma1Aa!.
